Should be several great matches. The one I'm wanting to see is Vincent Olathe North and Rossvilles HWT. should be the best match. Sorry I can't spell is name but he is great.
though Vincent is a good young hwy, it will not be close
That what I was thinking,Duane is the best hwy this year!
Unless I'm mistaken, Duane Zlatnik is from Rose Hill (not Rossville) and even given that possibility Disney, Andrus, Thomas, Heithaus & Hilley (and their supporters) and others may disagree. We will find out.
OK, I'm going to fire a shot across the bow. UNLIKE in the past, this tournament - this year - does not seem to hold the same allure to the Newton or Derby Tournament. I would not have said that in years past.

You're mistaken. He's from Rossville.
St. James Academy will be attending this event as well. A few corrections and additions:
Caleb Seaton Bonner Springs 103 will be tough
Symon Seaton Basehor 112 will open some eyes at this tournament
Derek Weller ranked #1 in 4A 119
Dennis Wood will not be wrestling and Spencer Blew has competed at 125 all season so far. Not to say he won't move down.
Koty not Kuty Russell has been competing at 130 so far so I don't see a move down to 119 happening but that would be a great a addition to a tough bracket if he did.
Josh Hanson, Baldwin, has been very competitive at 125 so far this season
Happy Holidays and Happy Feasting to all wrestlers and their families over the holidays!
Ok, I'll say it since Will won't.

Ryne Cokeley (St. James - 119) should certainly be in the discussion for that weight.
Here is a few others that could be added to the list of kids who could have successful weekend.
103 michael provencher- ranked 2nd (321a) took 5th at state 2007, sheldon graves 119 freshman but has the experience to place at any touney 125 kiefer hurla same as above 152 colton gentry not ranked in top 5 (321a) but would go out on the limb and say he should be and is probably in the top 10. Lost to Flynn in championship of Eudora tourney. 285 Zlatnik dont have to say much here but he is not the typical heayweight as far as body structure. When you think of a heavyweight you think of a large unfit adult body, but not with him. His calves(sp) are as muscular as my thighs. I am not a small person in no means.

Springboard....
In the past I may have agreed with you about the body of the heavyweight wrestler...have you seen most of the heavyweights that are talked about on here? Disney, Heithaus, Vincent, Nowak and many others that do not have the "large unfit adult body". Don't get me wrong, there are still some heavyweights that do fit that bill, but I think kids today are just getting bigger, period. Add that with the weight training classes they have in school along with proper eating habits, you get the new heavyweights like Zlatnik.
Take note that Disney defeated Kober by a thin margin of 1 - 0. Don't know much more about Kober than that - but that says something.
Do you know anything about wrestling? Kober bumped up from 215 to wrestle 285. Kober was state champ last year and runner up the year before. It was Disney that beat Kober in the finals two years ago.
Obviously didn't know too much about 3A ... I'm anxious to see how he does at Bashor.
Disney is 5A and Kober is 4A
Other threads indicate that TJ Lorson from Seaman at 171 isn't wrestling this year. So I doubt if he will be there!!!
I guess I just don't know about Kober ... and he sounds like a great wrestler. Thanks for the info.
Question about Kober. Is he wrestling 215 lbs this year and bumped up to 285 lbs last night just to go against Disney?
Jake bumped up from 215.
Atticus is ranked 4th in the NATION and has signed with defending National champ Minnesota and 2x state champ
Jake was Runner up in 06' and undefeated state champ in 07'. He is also mentioned nationally. Do you need directions to Basehor to see this in person? COME SEE THEN WRITE.
I had the very good fortune to watch Duane Z. wrestle at the Mission Valley tournament - very impressive.
Someone that may be a surprise is Noel Richardson from Chapman in 171. He did not finish the season last year due to mono but is very healthy this year. Came very close to beating Willman from Clay Center who is currently ranked 1st in 4A in the first match of the season.

What time will the tournament begin on Friday?
Im not going to lie, but Chief is the man!
Zlatnik isthe best 285lb wrestler in state.
Maybe if we are lucky we will get to see this year at Kids State when Small vs. Large.
Zlatnik vs. Disney alone would be worth the trip to watch. What other match-ups would be up there with this one.
What all teams are at Basehor? I have heard that Goodland and KC Harmon are also going to be at the tournament.

Thanks for the updated list Chief....I took it off the tournament listing website....looks like it is missing a couple.
I may have missed this somewhere, but is this tournament going to be on trackwrestling?
Will the tournament be broadcast on the radio or on the internet? If not, will there be brackets updated online?
119 just got a little tougher this weekend. Add Sharky to the list...
119:
Hase - SL
Slyter - PA
Cokeley - SJ
Madl - BV
Weller - PI
Rockhold - BW
Tyler Maxwell - Iowa

Is he bumping up for the competition or is he having trouble making weight at 112lbs.
I'm thinking the former. He wrestled last night at 112.
Will the seeds be done tonight?
Seeding meeting starts at 8:30 AM tomorrow.
Will the brackets be posted online tomorrow after the seeding meeting?
Don't know how soon they will be up, but the web site is:
http://noir.usd458.org/bobcatclassic/
Looks like Noblet of Paola is going to try and get in the mix with Napier and Means at 135 for this weekend! That should definately make it the toughest weight class.
Chase Wells of SFT is going 135 and Ryan Weaver of SFT is going 140. Heard Wells beat Weaver for 135 Varsity this week.
anyone have a link for this tour

Anyone else find it odd Zlatnik pins his was way through the tourney doesn't ever even go to the third period with anyone and doesn't get outstanding wrestler?
Good Question Dawg at Heart. Maybe because we have come to expect that of Zlatnick. He will probably have to beat a Disney or an Andrus to get that. That kind of sucks but;;;;
Please note error in the 112 pound class--
Freshman Symon Seaton- Basehor Linwood
Symon pinned Kevin Taylor-Silver Lake in 2nd period for 3rd place at the Bobcat Classic

My kid got that changed. It was wrong on the copy handed out. Symon had a great tournament! His semi with Callahan was really close. We will hear a lot more from that Freshman out of Basehor.
Congrats to Sam Thoman! That match with Bonewell was the highlight of the finals.

I really think the heavy weight bracket really does not get looked at very much for OW. People really still have that whole thought in their mind that they are just , to quote an earlier post in the subject, "When you think of a heavyweight you think of a large unfit adult body" rolling around on the mat until someone gets pinned. I know many many of times that the champion in the heavyweight bracket has pinned all the wrestlers in the 1st period and not received the honor. It is time for people to stay until the final match and watch some of the "new" heavy weights and realize that is some outstanding athletes that wrestle that division, it is not Sumo type bodies as people have in their mind.
Congratulations Duane! You have our vote for OW!
Vincents
I agree in every bracket you can look at and say well it should be these 4 or 5 five young men have a chance to win, but so and so should win. I think Kohen,Caldwell and Baker you could also make a case as well. These young men wrestle and win week after week. If they lose it is a huge upset alot of pressure, but that is what makes them great. Great tounament can't wait for next year.
It would really be nice if the link worked! I am curious as to how some of the wrestlers came through the brackets. The only link that works is the finalists.
What weights in particular? I have the brackets.
heavyweight...who did finney beat to get to the finals?
heavyweight...who did finney beat to get to the finals?
Josh Burgoon by fall in 1:04
Nick Langford, 3-2
Lucas Vincent by fall in 4:49
After Langford beat Nowak 4-3 in the backside semis, Vincent had a big win by pinning Langford in :43 seconds.
