I just did a quick copy and paste and may have missed a ranked guy or two by mistake, but here you go. I'm sure there are unranked guys that will also make some noise and I predict nothing!
When did Manhattan stop attending this tournament?
When did Manhattan stop attending this tournament?
This year
Interesting test of the big school bias in the individual all classification rankings at 119.
(weigel and lamar, ranked 1 and 2 in 3-2-1a are ranked 10th (tie) in all-classification rankings and two of the bigger school kids ranked ahead of them will be there). results won't prove anything but it does provide an interesting test of the bigger is better theory.
Rusty Yarrow from clay center i know has held jason siebel to a couple of close matches. should be an interesting tournament
Orr from hill city wull be in the top 4 at 130 also tyler johnson from stockton will be in the mix
If Hill City makes the trip.

This year
That's too bad. I always thought this was one of the best tournaments of the year. I believe MHS was the only 6A team that regularly attended the Beloit tournament. I was always surprised that more 5 & 6A schools didn't take advantage of the great competition that can't be found anywhere else that week of the year.
Damon:
If I remember correctly, Coach Gonzales reworked the Manhattan High School schedule in order for his team to attend the Flatwater Fracas; a two day dual team tournament in Nebraska, and in order to comply with the KSHSAA points regulation, the Beloit Tournament was dropped.
Richard please correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that Blue Valley is a two day tourney which is the same as Beloit so points are not an issue. My gut says that Coach was trying to mix more 6A schools into his bag than standing with “ in your face Western Kansas style” Beloit is if not the best, one of the finest venues for High school wrestling in the State. I was personally and truly disappointed to see Manhattan get out of the tremendous opportunity to be part of the Beloit tradition. The kids from the west always brought their A game to prove that East Kansas just think they know smash mouth wrestling. Damon understands what I'm talking about!
I talked to Gonz at the Newton tourney and he told me it was because they needed to face more 6A teams for seeding purposes when it came time for regionals.

welp, you're going to find out if all that trash talk is true. lots of ranked 4 and 5 a kids going up against ranked 3a and below kids (who are for the most part "western." Overall rankings don't give the small school kids much of a shot.

Some of us have learned to never underestimate the small school kids.
Let’s let the matches do the jawin' and not worry about some fancy pants overall rankin'. You might jest be in fer a surprise when sum of yer “big school” boys is countin’ lights.
But seriously the overall talent in 3A is not as up to snuff as it has been in years past. But, nevertheless this should be an interesting tournament with some of the top “small programs” in the state squaring off.

Ricky Bobby I know you have vehemently denied it to me in the past when I have suggested that you might be the return of
Gutwrench1
. I will have to take you at your word on your denial.
I have to say though that your comment above about the big school boys countin ligts is very similar to the way old gutwrench suggested to Andy Hurla about what was going to happen to him and the rest of the Kansas City Kansas metro wrestlers against the KCMO metro wrestlers. I believe he said something about them staring at the ceiling lights legs a kickin and counting the junebugs. I probably do not have that exact since it has been almost three years ago but your comment does remind me of gutwrench's.
Do we really have to open this can of worms again? I am not that MISERY luvin' Gutwrench1. You can believe me when I say this cause Ricky Bobby’s word is stronger than oak.
Okay Ricky I won't accuse you of being gutwrench1 anymore. But now I got to ask are you really Will Ferrell?
I was on some fairly decent teams at Manhattan. When I was in high school MHS was the biggest 6A school in the state. We went to Beloit and every year teams like Hoxie (you'll have to help me with enrollment...I seem to remember something like 200 students) would give us everything we could handle. I don't know if it's still the same way, but it used to be that if you wanted great competition, you wouldn't head East on 70.
Damon,
When you were in high school Hoxie probably had no more than 150 kids in 9-12. In the late 90's and early 00's they had an amazing run of talent, which when coupled with their great tradition and outstanding coaching made them almost bulletproof and unbeatable--regardless of classification.

Pamon Darker makes an appearance!! Now if we could only get Prant back!!
Who is this Pamon Darker you speak of? Never heard of him.

IIRC, Norton has had some pretty decent teams as well, regardless of classification.

With a name like Pamon he sounds like a loser.
TOTAL loser. I bet he's handsome, though.
Yes, Norton has also had, fairly recently, moments of relative fame and success. Again, great talent backed by tradition and joined with great coaching is hard to beat!
Greg Mann,
Norton
If anybody gets results from today it would be great to hear.
Thanks,
