171 Thurber SH beat Flanagin EMP
Both are ranked higher than the SH kids?

What weight is Pursell from Lansing going to wrestle, and what happen to him at Emporia. Bo wrestled 112 at, loosing to Boyer from MV. Bo wrestled one match at Emporia--getting a Fall in o8 seconds, and then forfeited out the rest of the tournament.

Also, where was Wessel from Lansing--did not wrestle. Some kind of injury???
Posted By: chewie Re: 5A rankings - 12/21/09 11:54 PM
I know Jake Gentzler is pretty good, but good enough to be ranked at two weights?
Posted By: Gorilla93 Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 12:09 AM
Just wondering about ranking criteria. Pittsburg is on the rise. They took second with 9 wrestlers at Gardner Edgerton. Second to Seneca, Mo at Carl Junction and 3rd of 19 teams at Claremore, Oklahoma without one of their top wrestlers. They field a full team, but have had to go without one or two wrestlers due to academic committments. It's just weird that Pitt moved down a spot and Gardner moved up to #7 from #10. What goes into the rankings. I know all that matters is what happens at state, I'm just curious.

Tyler Dryden @ 119 is a Junior.
Posted By: Coach Alley Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 12:58 AM
Gentzler will probably stay at 125, but he is certified and hydrated at 119.

I think the ranker simply counts the points that would be awarded to each individual ranked wrestler. Pittsburg has several kids that are able to pick up points in these tournaments but will probably not place in state. However, their heavyweight (Bennet)is one that has picked up points in every tournament so far and has only one loss. He is the most improved wrestler that I have seen. He has beaten several ranked wrestlers already this year and will hopefuly find himself on the podium this year.

I appreciate all of the hard work that go into these rankings, but I do have 1 question. How does a 6A wrestler like Josh Pressgrove from Washburn Rural get ranked ahead of anyone in 5A at 189? I know that Steven Cooksley of Seaman beat Pressgrove on Dec. 16 by the score of 12-7. I was just curious about a 6A wrestler getting ranked in 5A. I think waiting for our Regional Assignments have made us all a little crazy.
Posted By: Chief Renegade Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 04:23 AM
5A mistake aside, Pressgrove had a great tournament at Emporia on Sataurday, pinning Williams and placing 2nd ahead of Cooksley who took 4th.
Posted By: Devast8r Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 12:13 PM
I agree that Pressgrove finished ahead of Cooksley at Emporia. They were on opposite sides of the bracket, Williams defaulted to Cooksley, and Cooksley took 4th due to the 5-match rule, losing a coin flip. It still doesn't explain why a 6A is ranked in 5A. If Cooksley needs to be dropped out of the rankings, that is fine, but not because a wrestler from a different classification (who Cooksley has beaten head-to-head) finished ahead of him in a tournament. That was my only point.
Posted By: Chief Renegade Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 01:05 PM
That was an obvious unintentional mistake. I'm sure he'll change that.

Schwager of Gb 5th after split matches with Bontz. Schwager won the last one 6-2 i think this should bump him up more than 5th NOT saying he should take over the 2nd rank because they have split but should at least me 3rd if Bontz it staying at 2nd...
Posted By: GBwrestling Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 07:44 PM
I dont think Tommy Williams ever made 112 and Nick Schwager never made 135 louis burley is at 152 not 160
Posted By: badbo Re: 5A rankings - 12/22/09 07:57 PM
Williams made 112 last week for the Joco classic.
Posted By: JesusNmark1 Re: 5A rankings - 12/23/09 01:00 AM
TJ Stokes at 125 is right in this mix of solid wrestlers.

Was on other side of bracket from Austin Haake-PT
at first Tournament.

Wins over Justin Sharp FS,
Close win over Jacob Hoopes BVN
A close loss to Ross Whitmore SMNW

TJ is fun to watch and a great kid.

minor detail but Aspen's last name is Kmiec
Posted By: Hoover Re: 5A rankings - 12/23/09 04:45 AM
Tyler Harradine and Jason Seibel are from the same team but Tyler is wrestling 145 for south but has not yet got to wrestle
Posted By: Coach Alley Re: 5A rankings - 12/23/09 02:11 PM
Schwager of Great Bend split with Codie Bontz at 140 not Alex at 135.
Posted By: gardner2x Re: 5A rankings - 12/26/09 08:21 PM
Tj Stokes at 125 finished higher than Haake of Pittsburg at the gardner invitational and Zach Litvak is 3-1 against Forrest Carroll of Turner
Posted By: Chief Renegade Re: 5A rankings - 12/26/09 10:14 PM
You guys have to start telling the whole story. Haake lost to McWilliams 4-1 in semis and McWilliams majored Stokes. Haake also beat the BC guy worse than Stokes. Litvak has wrestled Carroll 4 times this year? Where have they met this year?
Posted By: gardner2x Re: 5A rankings - 12/26/09 11:08 PM
litvak wrestled carroll when they were freshman winning by decision at regionals and 12-0 at kids club districts, last year litvak pinned carroll at the gardner dual against turner then carroll pinned litvak at state when litvak later injury defaulted on the 2nd day.
Posted By: gardner2x Re: 5A rankings - 12/26/09 11:12 PM
haake did have 1 more win than stokes at state but lost 1-0 to brock stewart of hutchinson when stokes beat stewart 14-1
Posted By: pittwrestling4 Re: 5A rankings - 12/27/09 04:01 AM
at 125 Arnhold is going 130 and is all year last i spoke to him
Posted By: pittwrestling4 Re: 5A rankings - 12/27/09 04:13 AM
haake was gassed with his match between him and stewart. conditioning isnt going to be a factor this year from what ive seen

Meaning there is no criteria for Litvak or Stokes over Haake and Carroll.

Will there be an update? Just wondering?
