Isn't both the wrestlers at 160 from small schools? Also 135/140.
Posted By: Jesuslover Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/22/11 02:16 AM
Indeed they are Top Hat. Whats even more crazy is that Lies is going to have to coach against his own guy in Hattabaugh at 160. lol
Posted By: Top Hat Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/22/11 02:51 AM
So it isn't really 321A-4A vs 5A-6A as billed. As far as Brad coaching against Jake that's not gonna happen.
Posted By: Chief Renegade Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/22/11 05:02 AM
7-3 with three toss-ups in favor of Large class.

No Moeder, Cokeley, Tannenbaum?? 3 of the states best not in this event?

unbelievable that there are no 5a or 6a guys at 160 that will wrestle Hattabaugh or Keiswetter.
Unbelievable that there are no 135/140 kids from 5a and 6a that will wrestle Strauss or Newell.
Posted By: doug747 Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/22/11 09:07 PM
I have it 8 to 5 small school, considering that two weight classes small schools will win since they both kids are small school....6 to 5 small school if we don't count those two weight classes..........
Posted By: doug747 Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/22/11 09:08 PM
HWT is also an all small school event!!
Posted By: HEADUP Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/22/11 09:24 PM
those three matches don't score do they??
Posted By: doug747 Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/23/11 12:48 AM
I assume not, but you know how those 5a and 6a guys are, they will try to steal those points from us small school guys...........

Hi Doug 747. On the #160 6A list. I have Reed WH is a Junior,Wilson LFS is a Sophomore,Eggers,DCHS a Junior,Hill SME, Junior, Euring JCHS is a Junior, and Wagner Hutch, is a Junior. My MHS Jr. Brian Wood (torn ACL)had wrestle all of them except the finalist and I try to follow this wt. class during the season. As the 6A rep I want our guys in the meet. As far as Tannenbaum of Blue Valley North. He was asked to particpate,I went thru the HWC and was informed (schedule conflict). The one and only rule KWCA has is all Senior State Champions are asked first! If they decline then we ask the second place finisher. As far as 5A Coach Charbonneau of Emporia works with the 5A wrestlers and coaches. One year I had 24 bouts and so many guys had turned me down that I tried to get a true East vs. West. That the event was not a classic dual. So I understand your fustration of not seeing some of the Wrestlers you were wanting to watch.I have no control of the Senior who turns me or other reps down. I will admit I was late this year in contacting three seniors in 6A. RMG

The state brackets list Euring and Wagner as seniors.

That's A shame it will not be wrestled as billed. I hope they have enough red singlets. How will this be scored ?
Posted By: ROBERT M. GONZALES Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/24/11 04:31 PM
Thanks Mr. Wilson, for the update. I have in my score book Euring as a Junior back from the Dec. dual meet. (My mistake). I was almost sure Wagner of Hutchinson was a Junior.Doug 747 was correct on two of the athletes. Sorry Doug 747 for the error. As far as the three matches that are small school, I am happy that we have athletes that are willing to wrestle. This should be a good dual with some great bouts. RMG
Posted By: BrandonPigorsch Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/24/11 09:13 PM
Last year the same thing happened at a few different weights and they just counted the matches as exhibitions. I am not sure if they counted these matches towards the team score or not. It is a shame that more wrestlers won't compete in this event, so it can truly be scored as big vs. small. There are some great match ups and it should be exciting for the fans and a great experience for some of our state's best.
Posted By: doug747 Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/25/11 01:16 AM
Kids not wanting to wrestle is not RMG or Coach Charby's fault. I was just hanging it on the big school guys. Maybe I have to go out and just call them chicken to get them to wrestle!! I'm srue there were some small school guys that turned it down also..........
Posted By: sportsfan02 Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/25/11 08:58 AM
There is simply more and more post season wrestling opportunities available to them each year. It wasn't that long ago that the Senior Classic was about the only wrestling other than Senior Nationals, prior to FS/GR season. That isn't the case any longer and it has hurt this event. I don't think that is a bad thing, rather it's just the way it is.
Posted By: BrandonPigorsch Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/25/11 05:47 PM
The coaches are not to blame for anything and i do not believe that anyone is blaming coaches. I just wish this was a more sought after event by our athletes. I know that when a kid from our school gets invited they accept it as a challenge and are honored to get to represent their school and community.

This going to be online? I can catch a few hours of rest and set my alarm if so!

This is still a great line-up and will give the kids that are weighing in some good entertainment. I know for one I am looking forward to this!!!

Final team score? Heard they scored every match?

27-22? "Bigs"
Posted By: L.Geyer Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 03/26/11 01:37 AM
Can You call it a win for big since some of bigs wins were small school athletes

I believe they scored it 18-16 in favor of "bigs"
They didn't score matches that had wrestlers of same class. i.e. Cokeley v. Hattabaugh (which by the way was a great match) ryne had 2 slick ducks. Hattabaugh in deep a few times but couldn't finish. Keiswetter and Baird was awesome too. Some great scrambles all around tonite.

Mark Sample was filling in for Alcantara @ 189!!

great dual with some great matches...the kids came to wrestle tonight!

Some thoughts on the dual-
Hats off to these studs for stepping up- a lot of KS elites didn't show for various reasons...

Gentzler- what a great overall athlete; with some good coaching at ASU I think he has some fantastic potential

DeShazer- again, one of KS best, but he still needs to learn to wrestle on the mat if he wants to take it to the next level, guys that wrestle mainly on their feet often take some serious lumps at the next level

Strauss- has been hitting his stride lately. A rematch with Blackwell at this point would be interesting; Don't know if he is yet at the level of LamBotte or Tannenbaum but he really has peaked nicely towards the end of the year. Will surprise some people if he wrestles this summer

Graves- to me the biggest upset taking it to Little. Little had a great season and I'd like to see both these guys wrestle this Summer

Cokeley- impressive in stepping it up at the last moment. Really had everything to loose and not much to gain; a nice win in reestablishing himself as truly one of Chief's top 5 guys. Needs to continue to be aggressive and can hopefully bring home some hardware at Va. Beach

Omli and Salmans- 2 of the most overlooked guys in the state with regards to publicity. Could make a legitimate argument that they are in the running for Chief's top 5. Again, it would be nice to see these guys wrestle this Summer

. Me too. Big schools would cry though. If they can't come up with a wrestler that's too bad. Small schools get the short end once again. Tell me y not count cokelys win for the small schools because no big school kid could beat him anyways. ?? And 35 and 40 and hvy wht. Biased big school win. True score little school wins. . So basically 3 little school wins were not counted. That's not how a dual is scored. No wrestler no points, in fact 6 for the oppossing team. Little schools win. Do you think this could be manipulated any more? I should know seeing how on my team we never won a dual due to only filling half a team. Get real or call it something other then big vs little.
Posted By: doug747 Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 04/04/11 06:36 PM
Actually, I think it was 18-16 going into the last match, which a small school HWT won by pin. I thought the "majority little school" team won if I remember correctly
Posted By: alleyderek Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 04/04/11 11:17 PM
you are correct doug, but i didnt know if they counted the 285 match as it was a 4A vs 321A.
Posted By: lylegeyer Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 04/05/11 10:56 AM
They didn't count 135/140 lbs, 160 lbs, 171 lbs, and Hvy Wt which all were little school wins!!!!!
Posted By: jamesrenfro Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 04/05/11 02:03 PM
Little Schools are 1A-4A and the Big Schools are 5A-6A.
Posted By: smokeycabin Re: KWCA Sr. Classic Line-Up - 04/05/11 02:41 PM

112/119 big win 5 points
125 big win 3 points
125 big win 4 points
130 big win 3 points
135 small vs small 0 points
140/145 small win 3 points
152 big win 3 points
160 small vs small 0 points
171 small vs small 0 points
171 small win 6 points
189 small win 4 points
189 small win 3 points
HWT small vs small 0 points

There were only nine matches scored where small schools and big schools matched up. Hope this helps explain the scoring this year.
