We are preparing letters to send out to all the pre-qualifiers to the NHSCA SR Nationals in Virginia Beach!
The date for this years tournament are March 28th thru April 1st!!
It is a pretty impressive list of athletes to say the least!! Vierya, Hood, Calderon, Pursel, Wolf, Watters, Parise, Stokes, Seybold, Duhr, Middleton, Reed, Conklin-Wright, Mason, Charby, Son, Schumacher, Biddle, Castlebury, and Hayes to name several!!
Let's hope they accept the opportunity to compete for Team Kansas one last time in Folkstyle and make the trip!!
Randy,
Please include a letter to Alex, he's looking forward to competing for Team Kansas!
PM your address!!
I am predicting a successfull trip!!
I guess I will ask the parents of all Seniors who have been State finalists in their previous 3 years to PM their addresses!
Addresses are always a hiccup in the process!
Randy, Don't forget Miles Johns of Newton!
which pursel? i say take both.
Yes, Miles is on the list!!
Our pre-qualifiers are those Seniors who have been a finalist sometime in their previous State tourneys!
There are tons of great wrestlers that should make the trip but they have to petition to get into this tourney!!
I don't remember from the last time I went to Virginia, but do the have a weight allowance there?
I don't know if it has been brought up on another post yet, but I think it would be great if our team singlets would have something on them to honor the Elvin family. I know when my son wrestled at nationals they were like an extra set of grandparents there to cheer the wrestlers(all of them) on. Just a suggestion.
We received a 3 lb weight allowance last year. I'd guess it would be the same this year.
Yes, we plan to honor Cherie on our shirts and singlets!
Yes, the 3 pound allowance still exists!
Need some help, I need some addresses for the following ... PM the info!!
Tyler McMichael
Jacob Parise
Hayden Chandler
BJ Stokes
need a zip code for Eric Mason!!
Randy,
Tried to send you a pm with Parise's info and it said it didn't go through.
Try to send me a pm and I'll try responding.
** You may compete at the weight class at which you entered your State's 2010-11 Individual or Dual Meet Championships, a higher weight class or you may wrestle as low as your "Minimum Weight Class" according to the NWCA Optimal Weight Calculator, verified by a hard copy of your schools Alpha Master Report.
There is a bit of confusion out there about weights! I will make a phone call tomorrow and try to clear this matter up! However, I have copied the exact wording from the website!! (yes, I did recognize that this is 2012)
Okay, I just talked to the NHSCA office. A wrestler CAN compete at the minimum weight his Alpha weigh-in would allow!
So, if your Alpha weight was 141 but you certified at 145 and wrestled there all season ... you can still wrestle the SR Nationals at 135 (actually 130) based on the Alpha weight!
But I suggest, that if you are wrestling below your State Tournament weight, you obtain a certified copy of your School's Alpha Weight Report!!
That is the way that I understand it as well. For example, Alex Bontz weighed 160 at alpha weigh-in, which allows him to drop to 147.1. At Nationals, if he wrestles 145, he will actually have to make 148. Which makes him eligable for 145, since his alpha weight with the 8% is 147.1 and he has to make 148. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe this is how it is.
What the will look at is the Optimal Weight Calculator which will indicate the minimum weight class. An Alpha weight of 160 will allow 147.1 but that NFHS weight would be 152 not 145 ... I think that is how NHSCA will look at it!!
I have been told the 3-pound allowance will NOT change the weight class or change what the OWC will allow.
Randy, It appears the answers to our responses are in contrast to each other!
I ask NHSCA:
Would the Weight Calculator have to show their minimum weight be the 145 or the 148 with the 3 lb allowance?
Their answer:
You cannot wrestle below your lowest allowed weight on the alpha form. Weight, not weight class.
I hope this clarifies for you!
Best,
Mattie
Mattie is THE final answer on all things to do with weight class! I would save a copy of that e-mail however!!
So now the rule is, if your Alpha weight puts you with in 3 pounds of a lower weight class ... you are GOOD for that weight class!!
***URGENT***URGENT***URGENT
There has been a snafu with room rates at the Double Tree. I intended for those planning to stay with Team Kansas to contact us for the lodging and to gain a discounted price. Apparently someone contacted the Double Tree directly and asked for that discounted rate! The management of the hotel will NOT honor that rate.
So, the new room rate will be $146.77 per night, based on an occupancy of 4. The rate for the 5 night stay with be $736.08.
Sorry for the change ... we have expressed our disapproval but we will not get a discounted rate!
A single occupant with pay $184.02.
But you can contact the Hotel directly if you chose to for these rates to book your room! Make sure you tell them you would like to room on Team Kansas's floor.
Nothing else at this point will change! The leaders of Team Kansas will stay at the Double Tree and that is where ALL Team meetings will be held!!
What will be the total cost of the trip for wrestlers and coaches?
That will depend on your individual travel arrangements!! This year we have made the decision to leave those out of our offerings!!
I have some confusion about the weight classes. The NHSCA website clearly states that you can "compete at the weight class at which you entered your State's 2010-11 Individual or Dual Meet Championships". I guess my question is, if I wrestled 112 in the 2010-2011 State Tournament can I wrestle in the 126 (129) or possibly even the 120 (123) weight class even though my alpha weight this year only allows me to go as low as 132?
Thanks, Clay Mulligan
The 2010-2011 Alpha Weight was a mistake by NHSCA that they have been told about!
You can wrestle what your Alpha Weight for 2011-2012 would allow! (and you can include the 3# allowance)
We have heard from 7 or 8 that have already said they would represent Kansas at the Beach!!
Also if you are an underclassmen ... NHSCA does hold class Championships!! The leadership of Team Kansas will be in Virginia on Tuesday ... if you want to wrestle, we will be there to help!!
You can use the same rates as listed above!!
This weekend we have gained a bunch of Seniors who qualified for the first time!!
I will be submitting a list of about 35 wrestlers to Kathy Juby for her help in gaining addresses for shipping!
But if you are a recent qualifier let me know your mailing address or better yet, an e-mail address for your info letter!!
What is the cost for wrestlers and coaches minus the airfare?
I sent you an e-mail which outlines the trip! Roughly $185 for lodging and $45 entry for wrestlers ... some lodging for coaches but $90.00 for coaching credentials! (I think)

I have been trying to sign up Konnor all day. I think their server is down.
I will call them in the morning ... our trip is going through some real logistical challenges this year ... it will make those All-American a bit sweeter!!
The link to book rooms is, showcasemgmt.com
EverythingGoes, thank you very much for the nod. i would have loved to go. however i am slated for surgery over spring break. for those who don't know i was battling an injury all year. and finally at state my shoulder came out and tore my rotator cuff, labrum, and muniscus. i think that is how you spell it lol. anyway, i will be rehabing for fs and greco season, and will be taking home AA honors again like i did as a cadet. but you can bet i will be following my cousin and my practice partner along with all my other kansas boys when they go to war at the beach. school wrestling is over and it is time to pull on kansas colors. go get em' boys! wish i could be there!
Nick Pursel
Thanks for the great spirit Nick!!
What do you have to do if you're a sophmore and wanna make the trip out to sophmore nationals? Do you just buy your own plane ticket, lodging and entry fee and find 'Team Kansas' out there or what?
What do you have to do if you're a sophmore and wanna make the trip out to sophmore nationals? Do you just buy your own plane ticket, lodging and entry fee and find 'Team Kansas' out there or what?
Basically yes.
I dont know if this was already posted but i just read on the NHSCA site that the Senior Division will be using College Out of Bounds Rules. I dont believe they did last year but it will be good for the Seniors to start getting used to them.
Again, if you need to book an entire room at the Double Tree, please use this link!!

Thanks KK ... my list which is 30 is SR's only ... Charby didn't list a weight on his bio so the t-shirt will list him at 138!
Miles Johns at 32?? Did he alpha there, or how can he go that low? Doesn't matter to me, just curious. Good luck to all.
Yes, he certified. He had planed on wrestling at 38 for the season but went up after certification to wrestle 45 and make room for his team mate. 32 at the Beach will actually be 35 with the 3lb allowance, so it's really only a 10 pound cut. From past experiences at the Beach, he does not want to be the little guy again

.
2INN and badbo , Johns never certified at 32 or 38 but i believe his alpha is allowing him to cut down and make 135.
... and the NHSCA allows that!!
Colby Watters is NOT going to attend, due to the directive of his College Coach!!

Overall Field Continues to Grow
For the second straight week, the list of entries for this year’s High School Nationals more than doubled, and well over 1,500 wrestlers are now registered in the four high school grade level events. That includes over 400 in both the Senior and Junior Divisions. Last year, a total of 2,525 competitors entered the four high school divisions.
Here are some numbers that emphasize the strength of last year’s field:
·Over one-half of the 700 Junior Division entries – 397 – were state place-winners, with 150 having won at least one state title. That total included 22 three-time champions.
·Over 80 percent over the 537 Sophomore Division entries were state place-winners as sophomores, with 106 having won at least one state title. That total included 12 two-time state champions.
·Over one-half of the 424 Freshman Division entries were state place-winners as freshmen, and 64 were state champions.
Juniors from Kansas registered:
106 Dakota Leach
113 Zac Gentzler
113 Quinton Harrison
120 Dustin Reed
126 Lucas Maki
126 Anthony Monares
138 Calvin Ochs
160 Bryant Guillen
170 Spencer Wilson
I don't know of any FR/SO making the journey but that is a very impressive list of JR's!!
Is there anybody arriving on Tuesday that could give Matt Reed a ride to the Hotel. Matt's flight arrives at 5:30 p.m. We are rooming with Albright and Sam Son but their flight does not arrive until 11:30 P.M. Can anybody pick up Matt and keep him until Andy and Sam arrive to the Double Tree? I will not be there until Wednesday. Let me know... You can call/text me at 316-304-6554
Thanks,
Church
I am trying to pay for Luke's registration this morning and I keep getting an error right after I click on the PayPal box at the bottom of the registration page. I have called the office for NHSCA and they have not gotten back to me. Any help would be appreciated.
we are also looking for a ride for Tyler Kimple from the airport to the hotel his flight arrives at 1:02pm on wed. Mr. Bontz has generously offered a ride but his flight doesn't land for about 4 more hours, which if necessary i guess he can hang out at the airport. But we were hoping someone else might be getting in around the same time as Tyler. you can call or txt me at 316-347-4004 and we will find you this weekend in Topeka Mr. Bontz and let you know what the plan is. Thanks for any help!
Freshman Nationals:
138 Jake Castlebury
Didn't see anyone registered for sophmore nats
Quinton Harrison or Mr. Harrison can you give me a ring at 316-304-6554 about a ride for Matt from the airport on Tuesday. Just wanted to iron out the details.... Thanks.

In about 7 hours, we are heading to KCI to start our trip to the Beach!! Maybe now that the Kids State is over a few people will make predictions on this trip!
I will have my laptop on the journey and it's getting ready to go in the bag now!!
My next post will be from VA Beach!!
Where can we find the brackets for this tournament?
The NHSCA will have them on their website and I will post a link as soon as I have it!!
Randy, you are the flag bearer for Team Kansas! What an awesome event this is. I look forward to the sheriff's color comentary!!
Thanks Eric!
We, Gary Ulmer and I, just came back from the venue (an awesome one at that) having re-connected with the Ferraro's and the NHSCA staff! Much of our conversations were of the Elvin's ... the true ambasssadors for the SR Nationals. Much of this task is made earier because of the relationships Chuck and Cherie established 20 years ago!
The gear for the trip has been assembled bu Kjo and Lori, my wife and daughter, and it looks great! I will try to post a picture of the singlets, with a tribute to Cherie, later!!
The underclassmen are all registered and their event starts at 2 pm! The SR's will be arriving throughout the day!
I had thought that we might miss out on one of the highlights of the trip for me when we heard that a recent deployment had taken two aircraft carriers full of fighter jets away from Oceania. But I am thrilled to say that the fighters are still very active overhead!
Bring on th wrestling!!
are they streaming any of the sr natls?
Reed wins 14-3
Gentzler wins 1-0
This the bracket link I found so far
http://nhsca.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=362:juniors-brackets&catid=20:latest-news

I watched the match. He won.
Bryant Guillen lost 3-6 to JACOB HAYDOCK (3X finalist and 2X state champ from florida)
Spencer Wilson had a bye then won 4-1

The High School Television Network will perform a live webcast on all 28 mats at High School Nationals for all divisions for a full event pass (5 days) of $24.99. Day passes can be purchased for $10.00 per day.
http://www.hstn.tv
Quinton Harrison also is in the Junior Division 113 lbs and won 8-3
Is there a complete list of Kansas guys who is at what weight and grade?
Someone might want to check with the head table and make sure that Gentzlers bracket is fixed! It still shows he lost
Yes, we are doing that right now!!
They got it fixed (Zac Gentzler bracket). Zac just won his first match this mourning and is in the quarterfinals.
Dan Gentzler
Any Kansas guys up soon? What mat?
Gentzler just beat Pennsylvania runner-up Jeremy Schwartz!
That puts Zac Gentzler in the SEMI'S!!!
He is a Junior National ALL-AMERICAN!!!!
Eric, is that his second match of the day?
How did Quentin Harrison do this morning?
Spencer up 2-0 after 1. Great scrambles!
Dang...
Spencer loses in OT.
Dakota Leach won his quarters 4-2 and in the semis! Another Kansas All-American...
Bracket has Reed/Colby (120) losing a close one 3-1 in the 2nd round. Anyone able to confirm thats correct and if they have started the backside yet? The brackets I'm looking at arent updated at all...
They have recently started backside matches!
Randy, could you post how Reed does on his backside match if you catch it please. (120Lbs) 5166 Mat 10.
I am back at the Hotel handling some SR items currently! Right now the wireless in the venue is pretty pricey ... they promise to have that fixed for the SR's!
But I will do my best!!
Randy, could you post how Reed does on his backside match if you catch it please. (120Lbs) 5166 Mat 10.
I will post the result when Sims texts it to me.
Bryant Guillen won by fall
How did Quentin Harrison do this morning?
He lost his first match today and is in wrestlebacks.
Randy, could you post how Reed does on his backside match if you catch it please. (120Lbs) 5166 Mat 10.
I will post the result when Sims texts it to me.
Thanks Rick!!
Good! Any idea who he has next?
Did Dustin Williams make the trip?
The Seniors weigh-in at 6PM.
Reed won 6-1. Has Hyre from Georgia next.
Reed won 6-1. Has Hyre from Georgia next.
Sweet. Keep the updates coming.
Ochs is going to be an AA and Reed has one more!
Randy, Great Job on updates. I was wondering how to view the SR brackets? I have looked on the NHSCA site and cant find anything. Help would be appreciated.
They aren't posted yet ... weigh-ins at 6 pm est! They've often told us that brackets would be viewable late this evening but history tells me it will likely be in the morning!!
... and Reed pinned a foe that I haven't seen posted but he still has 1 match to win for AA!
Reed won by fall and then won 3-1. Need one more to All-American
Spencer lost 1 match short of AA.
Dakota Leach absolutely throttled his semi-final opponent!
Gentzler had a tough match and couldn't get his offense going.

Reed lost his bout 0-1 so will be wrestling for 7th!!
I may have a re-occurence of a nasty virus ... I don't know how long I will be able to post!!
Dont you have a smart phone Randy???
Yes .. but it a real chore doing updates by phone to our webpage!
has the seniors started wrestling yet
SR's are just getting ready!
626 total SR's representing 49 States! 3 "Foreign" country's; Germany, Netherlands and England ... their competitors are representing US Military Bases in those locals!
Good Luck to all the Team Kansas Wrestlers but especially to Tyler Kimple. Keep us posted we are unable to view the brackets keeps locking up our computers.
Matt Reed wins by fall!!!!
Is Matt the only wrestler that has wrestled so far?
What are these European guys doing in the brackets? Team ZZ?
Anybody know?
Chief that is our Department of Defense kids from All over Europe. I know that this is the largest contingent the DoDDs-Europe squad has ever sent. Most the time the jet lag catches up to these guys but I know there is a handful that could do well. I will check brackets later and give a blurb or 2 about some if interested.
Zac Gentzler wins, in for third & fourth.
Has Miles Johns wrestled yet?
Hey just a warning I went on to the nhsca website, and I now have a virus on my computer. I am not sure if this came directly from this site, but it appears to have been, as this is the only place I went to online besides usawks.

Mine did the same thing...some Smart Fortress security software. Nasty stuff...It even made it through our school's server settings. Still working on removing it.
I got that Smart Fortress junk on my computer last night. Here is what I did to get rid of it
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=107384
Yeah, the sight must be infected. The virus is the "google redirect virus". It basically redirects you to another site every time that you click on a link to a site that you searched for in google. I'm having a tech come over to fix my work computer and I'll post any important information he tells me about the virus. If you look on your hard drive under Documents and settings>applications you will find the Trojan horse Downloader.Generic12.BNOG file. If you find it, you have the same virus that I have. AVG was not able to block the virus installation.
Heard from Tyler he won is first match in OT.
Does anyone know how to stream it? It says it will be streaming but I'm not sure how that is supposed to work..
That's exactly what I got, out tech got this removed, but it took some time. thanks to everyone keeping us updated, as we are unable to view much due to this virus.
keep up the good work KS wreatlers, bring back lots of hardware!!!!.
Reed up in about 5 matches on Mat 7.

Nice. Conklin was in a dogfight and threw a headlock for a fall!
Details on the Blaine Hill match?
Blaine got the first TD but got reversed after about 30 seconds. He got robbed on an escape that would have made it 3-2. The guy escaped in 2nd and got a TD, then rode Blaine in 3rd. A tough kid from NY with a mean leg ride who just beat the European guy in the first round.
WOW ... I love technical issues!!
Spent two hours getting the virus off my computer!!
I am back with limited connection strength!!
949 SAM SON (KS) DEC AARON VELASQUEZ (CO) 5-3

Team Kansas was 20-18 on the day which I think is pretty decent given the level of competition!!
Dakota Leach is the latest National Champion from Kansas!! He won his finals match, 11-0 ... that is dominance!
Zach Gentzler was 4th, Nathan Reed was 8th and Calvin Ochs was 6th! All-Americans!!
Great job JR's!!
Alex Bontz went 2-0 on the day as well.
Sorry Lindon ... I just copied Renegades list from earlier!! My bad!
The stats DO include his wins!
... and this morning I am getting a bandwith error on the NHSCA site for brackets ... grrr!
It has rained overnight in VA Beach and we walked over to the venue in mild temps and slight breezes. Our weather here has been pretty good but it does get chilly when the winds come in from the ocean!
Four All-Americans in the JR's, including a National Champ, was a good showing for Team Kansas!
The Seniors are warming up for their next bouts. One more round of front side then consolation matches! (I think, as the link to the brackets is still down but that IS what is on the posted paper)
I'm prepared to get the day started ... hopefully the balance of Team Kansas is!!

It seems their problem with accessing the brackets is fixed!
Matt Reed up now on Mat 7!
Bontz wins in OT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Javi uses a reversal with 20 seconds to go in regulation to send his bout into overtime. In the 6th period his opponent locks hands to secure the win for Javier!
Reece with the 2nd period fall!
Bean up pretty soon on Mat 1?
Luke Bean wins by Fall!!!!!
Charby wins 5-2!
Luke dropped the Hammer on that foe!!
Bean up pretty soon on Mat 1?
Of course Mat 1 is about as far from my campsite as I can get. I was matside for the action ... Luke used a pair of takedowns including a low single ... and a cheap tilt to take command ... and working from top, put in the surfboard and power half for the fall!
Matt Reed had to fight off his back for the win!
Sam Son avenged a loss from last season with the win!
Wright-Conklin wins again!
Reece brings the pain ... wins 13-3 ... used a couple of takedowns and some tilts!
Does that put Reed and Reece in the Semis? AA's?
Luke Bean just loses, 3-5.
Blaine Hill wins 4-3!!!!!!
Thanks for all the updates guys. It looks like Team Kansas is holding their own and more. Good luck the rest of the way. You should all be proud of performances.
McMichael and Middleton win!
Charby loses a front sider.
Randy,
How are we doing wins versus losses at this point? The last post I remember was 20-18. What is your take on this team versus teams in the past? I told my son that he should feel privileged to have wrestled on the same team with Reece for the last two years. Reece has always been great with the younger guys. I am sure that many of these seniors have had positive impacts on their younger teammates.
Johns and Hayes win backside bouts!

I haven't calculated w/l today ... but it feels like we are still about .500 ... of course we are now working the backside and the semi's will start at 6 pm EDT!
Reece and other members of Team Kansas are almost to a man, great young men!!
Wood 2-0 on backside so far today

NICE!
Wood 2-0 on backside so far today
I watched Wood wrestle a number of times this year. He is one tough wrestler. Keep it going guys, we are rooting for you back here in Kansas.
McMichael wins a close one!!
Griffin has to injury default out of the tourney.
Was hoping for a Conklin/Crutchmer rematch but see that Crutchmer lost 7-6 to Loughlin in the quarterfinals what does the asterik next to the score mean?
Randy,
Thanks for the update. I would agree with you that most likely every one of these guys are fine young men and great mentors for the younger guys. Go Team Kansas!
Was hoping for a Conklin/Crutchmer rematch but see that Crutchmer lost 7-6 to Loughlin in the quarterfinals what does the asterik next to the score mean?
It meant in an emotional match Crutchmer had a bit of problem dealing with the loss.

I am only going off what Garrett told me, but the wrestler Crutchmer lost to got beat by a wrestler from New York his next match. Give him heck Reece.

I didn't see it, but from I was told, after losing to Reece at Newton two years ago, Crutchmer threw his second place medal into the stands. Like I said, I didn't witness it first hand, but the info I got was from a pretty reliable source.
So was he DQ'ed from the tourney?
So was he DQ'ed from the tourney?
No but did lose a team point!
Kelly wins, Yarrow wins, Hayes wins!
Hill was in control and ahead 1-0 with 2 seconds left his oppenent earned an escape. Blaine loses 1-3 in OT.
These young men are often not very use to losing ... today will be a tough lesson for several! 0-2 will be a big pill to swallow by such in the nature of the lessons in VA Beach.
Miles Johns won a backside bout!
McMichael with another win!!
Luke Hayes with another win, 5-4!
Kane Kelly was in a tight bout but earned a fall late!
Jacob Eggers wins again!!
Middleton stays alive on the backside!
Who Dose Matt Reed wrestle next is he in the semi ?
Keep the info coming Randy. Thanks!
I was in the upper deck and ended up with the medal so the story is fact. The worst part was when it was given to one of his coachs the coach didn't care that he did it. Said he should have just thrown It in the trash and walked off
Tyler McMichael wins another!!

Funny you said that. Now I remember someone else saying something similar about the trash can. He is a great wrestler, going to OSU from what I heard, but he might need to check his attitude at the door. I sure don't want to tangle with him, and I wish him the best in college.

Man I hate technical issues ... they give me a headache!
I believe there is a link on the NHSCA website!
Eggers lost, McMichael lost.
Hayes wins, Castlebury wins!
Anyone have a link to the team scores?
Sam Son would not be denied ... Sam scores a reversal in the 7th frame!
This is frustrating ... the virus has returned!
have they started the sf for the senior ?
Matt Reed in the FINALS!!!!
Reece Wright-Conklin loses in Semi's...
Reed stayed with it on top in the 3rd and got back points to win!!!
Who Dose he have in the Finals
Jordan Thomas from Michigan... Signed with Michigan... And yes, he stayed on top and got a great tilt to gut out a great win!!!
Looks like 5 All-Americans for the SR's! A good showing!!
Charby, Reed, Son, Wright-Conklin, Bontz, Bean... That's six baby!!!
... and it turns from a good showing to a real good showing!!
... and since the HS Nationals will be in VA Beach for 9 more years, starting booking your trips NOW!!!
Looks like we probably get to see Conklin - Crutchmer match-up anyway! Let's go Conklin!
Who is recruiting Matt Reed in wrestling or Football Dose anyone Know?
Who is recruiting Matt Reed in wrestling or Football Does anyone Know?
I expect him to wrestle at Oklahoma.
Nothing is certain and his options are most certainly open.
I can't open the brackets. How did Colton Duhr do today?
He beat Connor Middleton 2-1 but then lost to a kid from Texas 3-2, came up 2 matches shy of AA.
Thank you Powercat. this is the first we have heard about Duhr today...not sure why, but I guess it really doesn't matter at this point!
Colton has always flown under the radar...........I like kids that just go out and wrestle and get it done. Not many people realize he weighed 160 soaking wet this year, and wrestled 160 during the HS season. Wrestled 170 during Kids state series, and was puny next to his counterparts, but still found a way to win it.
He is a good awnry kid that can hopefully wrestle at the next level, and get some school paid for doing it.
Anyone have a link to the team scores?
I am not seaching any links as that has got me in trouble with viruses twice!
However, Team Kansas is in 4th place with 113.5 points!

Colton is a very valued member of Team Kansas as well as a few others who I did not report on! This week has been plagued with viruses in trying to read brackets, connectivity issues, etc. In the past two days I have spent 5 hours, when I should be reporting on the action, on the phone with virus removal.
I guess it is the nature of the beast, that while trying to provide coverage, I will un-intentionally leave someone out.
We have 6 members of Team Kansas wrestling for placement finishes!! Go Team Kansas!!
Charby and Bontz lose.
Sam Son wins!
Luke Bean scores the fall!
Great showing!

Sam Son takes a loss.
Reece W/C wins in OT with a ride out over Crutchmer!
Luke Bean wins, 3-1!
So does that make
Reed in the finals
Reece-Conklin and Bean in for 3/4
Charby and Son in for 5/6
Bontz in for 7/8
I've been trying to keep track but hard when they aren't updating brackets very often.
Just heard from Coach Albright. Sam will injury default his 5/6 match due to a likely radial break in his elbow. He flew over the railing in his last match, landing on his elbow. Ending his HS career as a 2x All-American!
Bontz finishes 8th!
Charby finishes 7th!
Yes, Son finishes 6th!
Reece finishes 4th
Luke Bean finishes 3rd!
The Championship finals start at 4 pm EDT.
6 All-Americans for Kansas and a top 5 finish as a Team ... pretty nice way to honor Cherie Elvin!!

What a stud! Congrats Matt Reed
Dan Gentzler
Congrats to all of Team Kansas for this showing!
Just wondering if maybe they had the number of wrestlers from each state somewhere? I would be interested to see how the numbers compare to the other states.
Congrats to all the wrestlers involved
Awesome job Team Kansas, it is great to know that we can compete with the rest of the nation. Hats off to all the gentlemen who battled in this super tough tournament. Great job by all of those behind the scenes, who do so much to make sure our wrestlers have this wonderful opportunity.
I will post on the events when I get home ... suffice it to say, Team Kansas is very happy!
Great job men, way to represent KS!
Way to go Team Kansas! You represented the state exceptionally well.

Does anyone have a ULR, why I can view Matt Reed's championship match online?
Congrats team KS! Great job!
Great Job KS wrestlers! Just want to give a shout out to Tyler Willis of Shawnee Heights for going 2-2 at this incredible tourney. I might have overlooked it, but didn't see his name mentioned in any of the results. Picking up some W's (2 falls)at Sr Nationals is a great accomplishment and helped KS with that team score!
Nice job Kansas, way to represent!
congrats to all kansas kids would have loved to go. surgery went well. anyway, at 170 where is massa, rogers, weircoch, mappes, beazley... none of the bigger names were there accept matt and the kid he beat in the finals. i wanted to see reed vs. massa

Weircioch is an underclassman isn't he?
Congratulations to ALL of Team Kansas! I am so glad my son Tyler Kimple had the opportunity to go on this adventure! He went 2-2 not exactly what he had hoped for (i am sure) but I am very proud of him! Thank you for offering him the chance to go, and Thank you to the Albers for the ride to the hotel and to Mr. Bontz for sharing your room and giving him a ride back to the airport. And Thank you to anyone else that may have helped him, coached him while he was there! he is on the plane coming home now i cant wait to hear all about it.
Wow what a showing by our KANSAS team. So proud of all you young men! Kudos to B-Wood of MHS. You went 2-2 in a tough tournament and now you know what the wrestling will be like at the colllege level. FS practice starts in Manhattan on Tuesday. So when you get off the plane today, get some rest. Wow National Champion Matt Reed and six AA and 30 other quality wrestlers wear CE on the signlet. It is does not get any better then that!. So proud to be one of your big supporters Coach Gonzales. RMG
Our Kansas kids represented our state well both on and off the mat. Also, the support from their parents and coaches was perfect. Last of all I would like to thank Randy and Cathy Hinderliter for planning and leading this incredible experience. They had big shoes to fill following Chuck and Cherie Elvin and did so perfectly.
Gary Ulmer
I want to say Congrates to all the wrestlers who represented Team Kansas. Great job guys! It was nice seing so much team support. These guys hung out together and congradulated each other on their victorys and supported each other on their defeats. To all the parents of these kids, my hats go off to you for raising such respectable and hard working young men. I was proud to see it all in person.

What the heck? Do my eyes deceive me?
"One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong." Can you tell which?
What is Kansas doing on this list? Kansas has no business being on this list of high roller wrestling states. Especially when we suck so bad, and we are so backwards, and we are so far behind, etc. etc. etc.
I hope I don't have to listen to any more crap about how Kansas high school wrestling sucks, and how we are so far behind, and what we are doing wrong, and what we need to be doing differently, etc. etc. etc.
Looks like most states could only dream about sucking as bad as we do.
Oh, and Congratulations Team Kansas Wrestlers and Coaches!
Awesome job, way to represent our state.

Heck, I wasn't even aware they kept team scores at wrestling tournaments!
This years trip to the Beach was a huge success! Placing in the top 5 as a team and having 6 All-Americans including a National Champion is as well as Team Kansas has done in recent history!
Much of the wrestling success is a tribute to the wrestlers high schools and area Kids clubs! I further think that a lot of credit goes to the coaches that organized sessions and opened up their rooms!! (maybe steal did sharpen steal ... :-))
From the logistics view a lot of credit should go to the individual families who adjusted very well to changes in the trip this year! Kathy and I have to thank you all for making this version so great!!
We would be terribly remiss if we did not give credit to USAW-Kansas and the Kids organization for their support! A huge thank you goes to Chuck and Cherie Elvin and to Gary Ulmer! The leadership that CCG has mapped for us a path that is very easy to follow!
We are already looking forward to 2013!!
Just wanted to give a big shout out and Thank you to everyone who was involved in putting together the trip to Virginia Beach. Randy and his family, Gary Ulmer, USAW-KS and especially Chuck and Cherie Elvin. I had heard they had laid the ground work for years, their efforts made it so easy for our guys to move thru the process while they where there.
Also a BIG thanks to the coaches who attended and ran from one matt to the other to coach Team Kansas and especially nice to see former Ks AA come back and help coach. You never want to forget where you came from and who helped you get there.
It was a very enjoyable trip even thou Javi was one match short of making the AA rounds, it was still a memory made.
Thanks again to everyone involved loved the trip and the young men represented the state of Kansas great!
