Only 8 132 pounders? Perry-LeCompton has 5 wrestlers...
Brackets not coming up for me. Workin for anyone else?
Nope. They lock up my computer.
easiest to go here,
http://thewrestlingtourney.com/pub-select-tourney.php then scroll down to spring hill, click the arms on the left, then under reports in the top right click brackets
Oh my, NOT ONE full bracket at Spring Hill!
What is the world coming to in 4A?
If they get any of the brackets full with only 15 teams there, I will freak out! That would be something.
Let me restate: There is not ONE weight class with 15 wrestlers!
How is that?
106 - 9
120 - 11
126 - 11
132 - 8
160 - 11
170 - 10
182 - 11
That is fine and not surprising.

Yea, so much for the whole 3A/4A is so much tougher than 5A/6A thing because of these monster 2 day regionals with these monster 16 man brackets.
Changes would be great. Cut it back to 12 weight classes. Shorter tournaments, better competition, schools like mine that have 300 kids can compete with other 4A schools that have 500-700. I am all for changes. Get it done if you can.
Finally, someone brings up the real discrepancy in high school. Too many weight classes, and uneven weight classes. We have a few weights in the middle that are insane, and then we have, lets just say "other ones". 14 is a big number.
Too many weight classes is not the problem. If we could get more kids involved during the Kids' Federation season, then more would wrestle in high school and we would see less open weight classes.
I also understand the challenge of keeping them wrestling. Just because you start at a young age, it doesn't automatically mean that you will continue into your high school years. Why do kids drop out of wrestling if they start at an early age? Some aren't cut out for the sport, others burn out, and others choose to do something different. The key is, get more kids to experiment at an early age, and even with the ones that wash out for one reason or another, you will have more wrestling in high school.
More kids wrestling would be great. Send them to Junior Varsity tournaments to get ready to wrestle varsity. 12 weight classes would still make the competition better and shorten up tournaments.

Incent the teams to bring full rosters...
In my opinion the scoring is not fair if we are really going to use an individual tournament to declare a team champion. In these regionals there should only be ONE BYE and the rest should be declared OPEN. What does this mean? You draw in the teams OPEN WEIGHTS just like unseeded wrestlers. If a SJA wrestler draws an OPEN instead of the single BYE he is awarded two advancement points and two bonus points just like a fall, just like it happens in a dual. It is CRAP that teams are denied a chance to earn bonus points because coaches don't walk the hallways and pull in the participants. Being a wrestling coach isn't usually a single hat job. You have to be a fund raiser, marketer, counselor, parent advisor, teacher abiter, etc. Seriously though, there is NO REASON a 4A school cannot field 10 wrestlers at a minimum. The schools in the metro areas are confronted with lots of other options and imo most of the kids are getting soft and their parents are letting them but that is where being a good salesman comes into play.
That is a really good idea (pts for an open, like a dual). It would require a NF change. It should be a proposal
Yes, totally agree.
Reward teams that get kids out and kids that are there.
Punish teams whos coaches don't do enough to get kids out.
Totally agree that coaches are and should be responsible for a lot more than just instructing at practices and supervising at competitions, at least I sure was from what I remember.
Of course, most coaches know they wear many hats and do. But I do agree many could and should do more to get more kids out and fill all the weights.
Just wanted to verify, start time is 1pm?
One suggestion:
TRACKWRESTLING.COM
Completely agree! Can not believe that it is not a requirement that all the Regionals be on trackwrestling.
Thewrestlingtourney.com should be banned from usage for posting results. It has been so terrible for navigating.
At least your regional manager is "attempting" to post updates!
I have never seen a more pathetic site than wrestling tourney.
YIKES!

I think from now on, we should pick sites that are use to having more than 10 page views a day. I think we crashed their server.
What a flat out joke. Who made this decision. You should be embarrassed. It is called Trackwrestling.
I bet it works great in July
Anyone there, can we get some updates?
Thunder rolls on the backside!! We have 10 of 11 going on to state. Two 3rds so far. Sneaking up on Bonner Springs! Only one Sr so we are going to be really tough next year. Just have to keep those pesky public schools from recruiting them!
Fortney wins too, so 3 3rds.
Tell that to Mcpherson Colby is smoking them at the moment.

Has a coach ever won regionals three years in a row without getting regional coach of the year? No offense to Coach Goebel but Tongie finished more than 20 points behind SJA. Thats three years in a row SJA has won regionals but the coaches continue to disrespect a brilliant effort by Mike Medina. He lost 6 seniors and a state qualifier who jumped ship to a public school. He lost seven state championships and a state finalist. This year he took four returning starters and put together a line up with one senior, three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen and won regionals for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW. What does it take? Six of the eleven wrestlers who started today had NEVER set foot on a wrestling mat until they came to Saint James Academy. Many, many of the wrestlers who placed for other teams have spent more time working on SJA mats than most of the SJA wrestlers but the coaches choose to disrespect Coach Medina. Everyone of you who didn't vote for him today should look in the mirror and be ashamed of yourselves! If it is private school bias, grow up! SJA was 30 points out of first this morning and won all but two matches today to qualify 10 kids for state and won the tournament!! Yea, it is about the kids but they would like to see their coach honored. And speaking of the kids... Trent Salsbury beat three of the top 5 ranked kids at 171 today. He was seeded fifth and won it but wasn't OW?!? Why should I be surprised, it takes a miracle and vote by the Pope to get a SJA wrestler named OW at a tournament where the coaches vote.
106 Reese Cokeley 1st
113 Zak Hensley 1st
132 Andrew Tujague 3rd

Keep in mind that McPherson was 15th last year at state.
And not sure how that has anything to do with what I was talking about.
MCP is currently ranked second Colby 4th mcp is new to 4a and it is a different ball game. I looked through the Emporia results once again 5a has kids and a lot of them with losing records at state. Plus emporia had a few 4 man brackets its just a joke. its really sad we have let this go on for so long.
Was at the SH Regional and they can be proud of the way they hosted the tournament. One thought... please don't start to rolling up the mats when there are still HW kids wrestling for third place. Those kids work every bit as hard as any other wrestler out there. It may not be as exciting to watch but those kids earned the right to to be respected. Otherwise GREAT job.

Pittsburg is new to your ball game as well and they won their regional.

Good point
....and there were some very good matches and great effort from the big boys at Spring Hill this weekend.
Will, just wondering what the team score would have been had we used the criteria listed on 2/17/12 6:26 a,m post?

Great question. I don't want to spend the time figuring it out. I will tell you that SJA only had 4 first round matches. Seven of our wrestlers had byes including all four of our finalists. We didn't leave any warm bodies at home.
