I attended the 4A state tournament this past weekend. I believe that we are not filling the center enough. The venue is so big that you do not get the atmosphere that we had back at Wichita. I think that if they want to keep 4A separated then we should move to a smaller venue in the eastern part of the state. Then, we can draw more support from the eastern fans. My thought is we should move it to White Auditorium in Emporia (or some where similar). Then, we can get it packed like they do at Fort Hays for the 123A tourney. Would like to hear anyone else’s thoughts….

Yes venue is not good... Move 4A, 5A, and 6A back together...
Also I beleive their was complaints about the announcers last year so they had the same one's this year and same mistakes..

Also Regional Disparity... but I might be bias there...

Way to many mistakes with announcers. Wrong winners, stumbling names and records. Talking too often during finals. Also if there was a fire, the people sitting on a step would be the first to get up and get out.

agreed i think it needs to be somewhere more centrally located like Emporia or Wichita i don't think we should go back with 5A and 6A that would be another day added to the tournament.

I don't know if it was because the finals were on a Friday this year but there was certainly a bunch of fans disguised as empty seats this year for finals at Hays!

Combined 4A5A6A trournament at the Ks. Coliseum was only 2 days---where did 3 days come from?

Didn't attend the 321A at FHSU, but heard they were much more hospitable than they were in Salina-similiar to the combined 456A in Wichita a few years ago. Like the location in Salina-centrally located-but need to make some improvements for sure!

Because the venues currently available do not have the capacity to handle three classes at once.

I did hear the announcer say " finally a 126 pounder with some intelligence". Prices at concession and hospitality room were worse than the fair. Official did a descent job but they did blow alot of calls, seemed a little whistle happy when ever a kid appeared to be headed out of bounds. Over all it was a good tourny.

Whoever heard of a hospitality room charging coaches? Might as well called it a concession stand for coaches!!

I agree they should all be together like they were 10yrs ago. Wrestling fans are missing out on so many matches with them all being separated. The wrestlers have other friends matches they are missing out on, plus the energy is so much more intense when they are together. Let's unite Kansas wrestling once again and give the wrestlers more support.

I believe it is also easier for the different colleges to come view the wrestlers when they are just at two venues instead of three. I also agree with PistolPete that there was a lot more energy when 456A were together...we need that again.

The PA announcer said that!!!???

We were 4A and went to the Bicentennial Center my son's freshman year. I hated it. Terrible place. We are now 3A, I love Hays. I love the facility and the staff are nice. The town apprieciates us. And, its a long drive for me. I don't want 3A to leave. Unless Kansas builds a new place like the Fargo Dome or something, the current set up is not going to change. In other words, the people of Kansas are going to have to be willing to pay to change things - not happening in this political environment.

I couldn't agree with you more John Johnson. It would be nice if Salina had a Fargo Dome type venue that would accommodate 16 mats and all the fans. A large centrally located venue that appreciate the opportunity to have wrestlers and fans in their city.

The hair brain statement of the day might have been, and I don't remember which finalist it was, "so and so, with a 38.6 grade point average.........." Yes, he said 38.6

As strictly a fan and my lack of knowledge of the "rolling team score" i find it strange that we can't have a rolling team score posted after every match on the scoreboard. This creates the excitement the fans enjoy and shows all wrestlers the importance of each match, frontside or backside. Imagine a football game that the scoeboard was only updated 45 minutes after a touchdown. I don't claim to have any knowledge in this matter but in the computor" age,it has to be avaiable. I bet, i ask 20 times during the 4A tournament what the team score was because i knew the one on the board was ALWAYS a round or 2 behind.Help this old man out and post the rolling team score. Thanks, Matt

Let me guess: You're from Eastern Kansas. You can always tell when people think Emporia is centrally located.

I wasn't there, but announcers get tired also. And, Salina is about as central as you can get. There were complaints about the Coliseum for being TOO crowded. Remember the comments about the security Nazi's from the mid 90's? Personally, I would love to see it get back to a 4-5-6A tournament. That was special. Now, the 4A tournament feels like another large regular season tournament with a little pomp thrown in.

Trackwrestling to keep the team scores updated.
My 17 year old son would love to announce next year! Wow!!!
Posted By: copeland11 Re: 4A Bicentennial Center - 02/27/12 03:22 PM
Being tired should not give some one an excuse to publicly on a microphone insalt and belittle a kid! Absolutely unprofessional and their is no excuse!

My top 3 complaints

3. Crowd was dead - crowds fault

2. The 5 min walk of champions to the podium. Come on already, I have a life. - organizers fault

#1. We have a college in our state on the brink of a national championship. No updates on that but we announce a BASKETBALL score!!!! WHAT A INSULT!!!

Salina is no more centrally located than Wichita. If you look on a map you will see that it is about as close to Nebraska as Wichita to Oklahoma. Unfortunately if you want centrally there is nothing but farmland!!

I was at Salina and very displeased with cost of concessions but you have that in Wichita as well. No matter the venue. I am all for the 4, 5, 6A being combined again. I have heard 4A is the toughest class to be in and think it would add that much more back to the 5, 6A competition again.

I do have to complain about some of the student body of a certain nameless school. They were very rude and had to stand whenever their wrestler was out there, leaving us to not be able to see ours or a certain good match that might have been going on. They could very easily went just a few rows up and stood in nobody's way. We asked them numerous times to please sit down or move and a couple would most would not.

I say let's bring it back to Wichita with 5 & 6A for our monies worth and great wrestling!!!

Iam not saying that we have to have it somewhere in Emporia or wichita. Iam just trying to say the we need a smaller venue that will draw more people and have a better atmosphere such as a college or bigger high school.

Emporia is not centrally located last time I looked on a map. Salina is perfectly centrally located if distance is the main factor.
Posted By: gorailroaders901 Re: 4A Bicentennial Center - 02/27/12 06:13 PM
The price of admission might have played a factor. A family of five payed nearly $60 just to get into the building, then figure concessions and one day is well over a $100. Plus, you can watch the tournament from the comfort of home for free on television. Lastly, the schedule probably played a role.
Posted By: sportsfan02 Re: 4A Bicentennial Center - 02/27/12 08:53 PM
Could have been worse. If what has been posted on here is correct, those attending 5A and 6A at Hartman paid $2.00 more per adult for admission than those in Salina.
