Silver Lake is open for a Head Jr High and Head High School Wrestling Coach. What else is open?

Wyandotte High School and Basehor-Linwood have head coach openings...

Eudora did but I'm not sure if it's still open or not

Blue Valley High School has a head coaching position available!

Looks to me like Sabetha is open, due to some incredibly poor decision making and obvious politicking by the newly consolidated Prairie Hills USD 113. They have a great coach in place, but clearly the new district is hostile to successful wrestling programs.

The Sabetha Coach was voted by his peers as the Council Grove 3-2-1A Regional Coach of the Year. I believe this is the 3rd time in his career to be named RCOY.

I saw that Wamego is now open.

It would appear that Iola is open as well.

I heard the WaKeeney (Trego Community) job is open as well

Any word on what happened at Iola? They come to our tournament. Hope we don't loose them.
Posted By: RedStorm Re: Open High School Jobs - 04/20/12 12:13 PM
Only word I know from Iola is that they did not ask their coach back, who happens to be one of the most passionate individuals about our sport that I know and he is a great ambassador for wrestling. He has also coached at multiple levels. In typical administrative fashon, the coach was given no explanation. So I wish I could tell you more. Just because you don't have to give a coach an explanation for non-renewal, doesn't mean that's what you should to do. We coach because we care. Coaching changes are part of the business, but to remove good young talent from a brand new program with no explanation is questionable.

As an administrator, I realize that it borders on professionalism to question the decisions of other schools, particularly since I have basically zero facts and because I have my own problems, but I love this sport and the people in Sabetha and Iola are my friends and basically, that is all there is to that.

When the time comes for them to run me out of town, hopefully I still have a few friends left to go to bat for me.

Solid post Bill.

The school board in Iola made a serious mistake. It is cowardly and shameful that they refused to explain their decision to their coach. The wrestling team at Iola finally had some team pride and genuine improvement this season.

May this serve as an example of how not to manage a high school athletic program.

The Sabetha job is open and I would ask someone to step in and take over a program that has been building, has great talent in the room, and a beautiful facility. The Federation program is talented, deep, and has great coaches as well. I would love for a young energetic coach or one of my many talented peers to take over a program that I do not want to see regress.
Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement during this rough time in my, and my families lives. Wherever we go I am also taking 3 young boys with me, so somebody is getting 3 boys along with me. And just to clear up a discrepancy, I have only been RCOY two times.

Sincerely,
Coach Jason Brown

Coach Brown, perhaps head West... I hear it really nice out here
Posted By: Coach Brown Re: Open High School Jobs - 04/22/12 11:43 PM
I might be heading somewhere west and a little south...and I remember how "nice" it is out west.

...that is debatable...

... But if he stays in Kansas, going West or South are about his only options!

I'm confused, how can we both debate the good points of it?
Posted By: RedStorm Re: Open High School Jobs - 04/25/12 07:09 PM
I am debating how nice it is out West, not whether or not Coach Brown should head West. i have no doubt that Coach Brown would class the place up though.

As one administrator to another: don't bet on it!

I am learning that pretty quickly.
