Coaches, I have gotten my wrestling club established and now have moved on to phase two of my master plan to get a wrestling program into the high school. My first inquiry was responded to by the School Super a few years back with a list of reasons why not to which I have dwindled away slowly. I am at reason 5 concerning coaches salaries. I am curious as I set to go to the school board eventually what a high school coach gets paid please? (ball park figures are fine for a 3A school district, please don't include teachers salary). Thank you for your time and help.

Coaches salaries are a negotiated item in the districts collective bargaining agreement, and can vary fairly significantly from district to district. This should be detailed in the supplemental salary document portion of the negotiated agreement. This is a public document and if not available on line on your districts homepage, must be provided to you upon request.

One thing that would be unclear is where exactly a wrestling coach would fall, and would probably be part of the next contract negotiation. Most supp contract scales are teired. Generally the highest tier is reserved for FB coaches, the 2nd for basketball coaches. Wrestling coaches are generally on the 3rd tier, sometimes 2nd.

Don't forget about assistant coaches as well. Find the assistant football coaches, and move 1-2 tiers down from them!

Hope that helps!

Our salary is same as the football & basketball coach 15% of base teacher salary. assistant is 10%

All coaches make $4,600 in USD 259 (Wichita Public Schools)... Probably averages out to about $1.00 and hour smile

I am at a 3A school. Head coach makes the same as all head coaches, 11% and my assistant gets 7.5%. We both coach JH wrestling with no monetary compensation. It only lasts 5 weeks and it is worth the "time" to make sure it is part of the overall program. Good luck and if you need any information, I am willing to share what I have.

Just so you know, the normal work year for an American who takes two weeks vacation and gets 10 paid holidays is 1,920 hours. If you are working 4600 hours in a wrestling season you must be on some really good supplements. smile

LOL... I think I was being sarcastic... the worst part of this post... I 100% don't ever remember typing it or responding to it! Funny though... I guess having a newborn will do that to ya! If I worked 1920 I would probably make a little over $2 an hour. Pretty sure I don't do that... Can I claim I at least work 920 hours a year on wrestling so I can say I make $5.00 an hour W.C.??

Oh, and Assistants in USD 259 make 60% of Head coaches salaries in all sports.

In case you are looking for a few more reasons for a high school to add wrestling. Check out this article. It is about why a high school should not drop wrestling but same principles apply to why it should be added.

Thanks

Klein, many thanks for the article. Great information and justifications to gain the sport. It adds more fuel for my fire so to speak. I appreciate it!!!

Coach,

there is probably not a lot you know about me then. I am not saying I am perfect... I am a sinner and far from perfect. Hence the need for a savior and the gift of Christ.

I accepted Jesus as my savior in June 2010 and was emmersed and baptized with the proclamation of Jesus Christ being the son of God and died to wash away my sins!

I have since then taken up my cross and am doing the best I can daily to live a life, raise a family and coach in a manner that glorifies the father and shines the light of Christ across the world.

I am a member of Pathway Church. I do Youth Ministry every Sunday night from 6-9 p.m., Lead a adult bible study (Small group on Thursday nights) and also started and attend a coaches bible study at Heights every Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m.

However, none of my works has earned me grace with God b/c the only grace was his gift of Jesus! None of us deserve it... thankfully, God decided to "Bless" me and anyone who wants to accept it with his gift.

I also use Jesus in a lot of my coaching since my new life has began! There is one way to the father and it's through the son. We can never work hard enough to earn Gods grace but if we have Jesus in our hearts, we will automatically desire to be better, serve others more and try to live a life based on the teachings of Jesus!

I am a failure and a hypocrite... but I am no different than the rest of God's creation who doesn't deserve it either!

If you would like to talk more about this in person or on the phone, feel free to contact me. Again, I had a horrible start... but thank God it's a marathon and not a sprint!
