The KSHSAA Executive Board has approved a change in the 5A & 6A Regional Tournaments. Instead of 5A and 6A regional tournaments being composed of four 8 team, one day, tournaments, there will be two, two day, 16 team qualifying tournaments in each classification. The top 8 placers in each regional will qualify for the State Tournament.
The only thing I don't like is taking the top 8 instead of 4. Everything else is very positive.
1. Two weigh-ins
2. #1 and #2 Should never meet until the Finals.
3. The top 16 will go to State.
I'm sure there are more positives. Great job.
Will this start this coming year?
This will be a positive if the powers of the regions are split equally. They cease to become "super-regionals" of one is "super" and the other isn't. Then we have the same problem as the past few years in different packaging.
Definitely a step in the right direction, though.
Great idea, so therefore assuming it wasn't Cokeley's fruition!
