I'm just curious on how we are gonna do a girls regional in one day with all the classifications and still stay under the 5 match maximum. You will have to do regular brackets with wrestle backs. What happens if a girl hits their 5 match limit and cant wrestle their medal match. I know as a coach I'm gonna be pretty upset. I'm not saying we will have this problem with the western regional but the Eastern regional has many more teams and will surely run into this problem.
I think they will have two Regionals with top 4 placers as state qualifiers. And have 8-(wo)man brackets at state. I assume top 6 place, just as in boys.
I understand that. But you cant tell me there isnt more than 8 towns in eastern kansas that dont have a girl at 123 lbs. Anything over an 8 person bracket at regionals will run into the 5 match limit.
I was wondering about this as well. When we went to the Spring Hill mixer there were 180+ girls wrestling on a Thursday night! Unless they do 16-woman pool-to-bracket scrambles, I don't know how the 5 match limit isn't reached.
You were asking about Regionals & 5 matches, I see that now. That's a great question. They may have to add more Regionals and only advance top 2 from each site. Or modify the bracket, as Coach Parker said.
I heard that while last year they had upper 200's for girl wrestlers registered in alpha....this year the number is in the 700's. That is awesome! But definitely now need a good plan for Regionals/State.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
Track wrestling has this as a two day event....2/14 - 2/15
Yet the KSHSAA official calendar says 1 day. Who knows.
Coach,
The 5 match limit was my concern when they originally said it was going to be a 1 day tournament with only top 4 going. Even the 3rd/4th match will be important going to the state due to a 4 will wrestle the 1 from the other regional.
Missouri's numbers exploded last year adding a girls division. I feel our states numbers have as well.
Do we know the number of girls from alpha weigh in? Have they been released?
Mark Lentz told me last week 972 girls. Up from 300 or so last year.
Cant the rule just be waived for this particular event?
Need the rule South Dakota has. 5 match limit...but if under 30minutes of regulation wrestled, you can keep having matches.

What if one competitor is over the 30 minutes and the other one isn't?
If you look at the girls regionals on track. And click on information it says Paola and McPherson for the 2 sites. And they are both listed as 2 day regionals. Not saying that they are set in stone but idk why they would have put that on there.
This is per an email sent from Mark Lentz on Jan. 3rd:
GIRLS WRESTLING UPDATE
Regional Tournament hosts are Paola and McPherson.
a. Moved to a two-day tournament.
b. Brackets will be 16 or 32 person brackets.
c. Schedule will start as early on possible Friday and as late as possible on Saturday to help with travel
d. We will qualify the top 6 finishers, in each weight class, from each regional for the state tournament.
e. Reminder, that each school is permitted one entry per weight class.
If there is ~75 teams at each regional how are there gonna be 16 or 32 lady brackets? I guarantee more than 32 teams have a 116/123 pounder in the lineup.
