Kansas Wrestling
Hello Kansas HS Coaches!

I hope things are going well for you during this current pandemic situation, or as well as they can be and you are starting to find a way to navigate through the “new normal’ for you and your community.
I would like to stay positive and forward thinking, so I wanted to get out an invitation to you about some tournaments we’re hosting below. We have some open slots for the tournaments listed below.
As teams start to sign contracts we can release that information to those that respond to me with interest. There has been a lot of interest so we hope we can get you added to our events for the 2020-2021 wrestling season!

Boys Varsity Dual Tournament on Dec. 5th (Sat.) – Maximum 5 matches – The format of this will be fluid, depending on the number of total entries. As contracts are starting to come in now, and understandably living in an odd time to get those completed. The main goal is to get you 5 dual matches. In case there is more than 6 teams that attend, I’ll reach out to coaches, and ask you to rank the preference you have in seeing each of the attending teams. It would be our hope for you to at least be able to compete against 3-4 teams of your highest preference. Also, we are willing to be flexible in moving back our weigh in time to allow for teams to travel in on Saturday morning, and not have to leave super early Saturday or possibly not be able to come for that reason. We have two gyms and could put out as many as 5 mats if need be for this. JCHS wrestling is willing to work with you regarding both of these issues mentioned.

Girls Varsity Tournament on Dec. 5th (Sat.) - (Pools of 4 & Mini Brackets)
Round Robin 4 person, then cross bracket into 4 person bracket. Hopefully can get 8 girls in a bracket, so two round robins of 4 each, then the top 2 in those round robins, join with the other top 2, and create a 4 person bracket placing top 4, do the same for the bottom 2 in the round robin, placing to 8th. Multiple entries at one weight class is allowed. Understanding these brackets will be flexible due to girls entries and growth over next season, regardless we will do our best to help attempt to max out your 5 matches in the day. Also, we are willing to be flexible in moving back our weigh in time to allow for teams to travel in on Saturday morning, and not have to leave super early.

Boys Jr. Varsity Mixer on Jan. 20th (Wed.) – (Round Robin)
The idea this would be a 3 -4 person round robin. Teams could enter more than one person at a weight class. EXAMPLE if JC, Abilene and Washburn Rual enter 2 x 132 lbs, then we can make a B bracket if need be. If you are splitting your staff for Varsity and JV, this event is to help free up your JV staff for the weekend. A start time will be discussed with the teams attending, but likely close to 4pm.

Girls Varsity Tournament on January 30th (Sat.) – (Pools of 4 & Mini Brackets)
Round Robin 4 person, then cross bracket into 4 person bracket. Hopefully can get 8 girls in a bracket, so two round robins of 4 each, then the top 2 in those round robins, join with the other top 2, and create a 4 person bracket placing top4, do the same for the bottom 2 in the round robin, placing to 8th. Multiple entries at one weight class is allowed. Would attempt to max out your 5 matches in the day. Alternative bracket types would be discussed further with teams attending if we have more than 8 teams interested in attending.

DUAL Boys Varsity/Girls Varsity/Boys JV: We’re also looking to add a home/away dual to take place in the last week of January or the first week of February. We’d like to host this year, and then next year you may host.

Coaches, I hope you’ll consider adding our wrestling tournaments to your schedule for the 2020-2021 season. If there is anything I can do to help you with this decision or clarify in regards to the format of the tournaments, please reach out and notify me, I’d be happy to communicate

Lastly, if I can help you and your program with anything, please do not hesitate to ask. I currently sit on the KWCA board under a Freestyle/Greco Roman seat, and on the USAWKS board as the Freestyle/GrecoRoman director.
I’m excited to be back in Kansas, coaching side by side with some of many of you great coaches that I had the opportunity to grow up around either as older coaches, or as athletes that are now also coaches! I believe Kansas wrestling is strong and look forward to more great seasons in the future!

I look forward to hearing from you! Be safe
