Posted By: kswrestler55 Re: rivalries - 12/18/02 11:56 PM
drennan and pyle, definitely
Posted By: Brett Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 12:31 AM
Morris from Beloit and Johnson from Norton
Posted By: HIPS Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 12:59 AM
Taplin and Rhodes
Posted By: Anonymous Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 04:00 AM
johnson and morris would be the best if morris could actually beat johnson. the only time was a fluke and that is exhibited every time they have wrestled since.
Posted By: raiderwrestler Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 04:03 AM
im not sure who has the greatest now but one of the greatest was between shawn bunch and micheal bradley.
Posted By: Dean Welsh Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 01:25 PM
Are Pyle and Drennan the same weight again this year and will they meet prior to the state tourney this year?
Posted By: wrestlin4life Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 02:26 PM
Cody Bell and Marcus Waters
Posted By: Bring It Re: rivalries - 12/19/02 05:26 PM
adam venegas and kevin pulliam
Posted By: oldwrestling fan Re: rivalries - 12/20/02 01:03 AM
I'd hav to say Drennan and Pyle, and yes according to the rankings they once again are in the same bracket. i can't wait to see what these two tremedous wreslters have in store at this years state tourney.

Steinmatz and Payne that is a big rival.
Posted By: kswrestler55 Re: rivalries - 12/23/02 12:23 AM
grant parker from manhattan has two rivalries
ian bork
chase verdorn
he wrestled them both last year
Posted By: 4A140 Re: rivalries - 12/23/02 01:01 AM
Bell and Waters have a huge rivalry. that is my vote
Posted By: DHS 275 Re: rivalries - 12/23/02 03:00 AM
how about Troy medil-LANSING and Brandon Buck-BASEHOR??? buck won the last time they faced off in the De Soto, Lansing and Basehor match
Posted By: havid deidrick Re: rivalries - 12/23/02 03:40 AM
Kimzey vs Grant, big big rivalry there, and Kimzey vs del toro. drennan/pyle, payne/steinmetz are huge. but definitly the kimzey vs grant match is always very exciting, especially for heavyweights.
Posted By: JustAFan Re: rivalries - 12/26/02 03:17 AM
What makes a rivalry? Is a rivalry called a rivalry because two people meet up a few times or because they each are capable of winning? Grant and Kimzey have met up a few times over the past 4 years, including jv tournaments. I am not positive but I think Kimzey has won all but once. In his one loss, Kimzey tried to do some different things--such as shooting double legs.

I was there for the Parker/Verdorn match, and it was supremely intense. Parker made him bleed. It was sweet.
Posted By: Prant Garker Re: rivalries - 12/26/02 03:40 AM
Chris Jennings of Manhattan has a pretty intense rivalry with Matt Cox in 6A 215.
Posted By: Jhris Cennings Re: rivalries - 12/26/02 03:54 AM
yeah that is crazy except cox loses every time
Posted By: havid deidrick Re: rivalries - 12/26/02 11:11 PM
maybe kimzey has won all but once, but they are always good, intense matches, and usually they are close. IT IS A GOOD RIVALRY. at eudora this year, their match went to overtime, did it not?
Posted By: wrestlerfan4ever Re: rivalries - 12/27/02 04:52 AM
i think a true rivarly is one that every one in the state wants to see, just can't wait to find the outcome. a match that decides champions from runner ups. a match when it is going on every one there is in awe, and no matter what else is going on everyone stops what they are doing and just watches. i think the best pair to describe this is pyle and drennan last year at the 3-2-1a state tourny when those two stepped on the mat every turned their heads to watch, and i will bet almost anything it will happen again this year, now that is a rivavrly

-I think that is the definition of the Cox/Jennings rivalry as well.
Posted By: Jhris Cennings Re: rivalries - 12/27/02 07:48 PM
and again, cox has never won, but it is a good match-up
Posted By: jmadden Re: rivalries - 01/04/03 02:43 AM
You have an interesting definition of a rivalry. I have always thought your rival is the one team or person that you want to beat sooooo bad. Someone that you think about, study, focus on, and are passionate about beating!!!!!
Posted By: wrestlerfan4ever Re: rivalries - 01/04/03 05:42 AM
well fanatic, evening using your def. of rivarly i think that def. describes drennan and pyle last year, as drennan stated in newpapers that he was waiting for that match all year. and once again he stated in the salina journal that he wanted to prove last year was no upset. so whatever def. you go by mine or yours drennan and pyle seem to have One of the biggest rivarlies in the state. but there is a heck lot more out their.
Posted By: takemedown Re: rivalries - 01/05/03 02:41 PM
By that definition of rivalry, I would have to say I saw a good one in Luke Mexler(sorry luke, my spelling is of I'm sure) and Sharbano. When they met at the Newton finals, it was an incredible match.
Posted By: bigkneepads#2 Re: rivalries - 01/05/03 05:53 PM
You murdered the spelling of Metzler, but you were even farther off on Charbonneau.
Posted By: takemedown Re: rivalries - 01/05/03 08:05 PM
yes, you are very correct. sorry about that. dispite my spelling, it was still a good match
Posted By: seth Re: rivalries - 01/07/03 04:05 AM
you were even FURTHER, from FURTHER.

I have to agree with Pyle and Drennen. I wrestled Pyle and have wrestled in the same tournament as drennen and they are, in my opinion, two of the most talented wrestlers in the state. A good old rivalry was between Devoe and charbaneu. They meet 3 times in the semifinals of the state tournment and, in my opinion, Charbaneu would have been a four time state champ if Devoe hadn't have beet him in three great matches.
Posted By: Big_DeBo Re: rivalries - 01/09/03 03:45 PM
I know this is gonna make me sound old (I am 29) but I remember back in the late 80's early 90's when Eric Aiken from Bishop Miege and Landon Richardson from Schlague used to talk about each other publicly and then have to face each other in the finals at pretty much every tournament that they went to. Those guys hated each other for real. I think it was because Richardson was either the only or one of the only guys that could beat Aiken soundly and would let him know it.
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: rivalries - 01/09/03 04:53 PM
Yes, that was a good one but I hardly call Devoe and Charbanue's last match a great one, Devoe stuck him real quick.
I was glad to see Charbaneu finally get a state title last year because he was very deserving of one.
Posted By: havid deidrick Re: rivalries - 01/10/03 04:41 AM
staab and clause, bork and carroll
Posted By: Westfahl Re: rivalries - 01/10/03 02:14 PM
I was Landunn Richardson's coach and a very good friend of Erik Aiken. They didn't hate each other at all in fact they were good freinds and wrestled in the same club in the off season. Neither one of them said anything to my knowledge publically or any place else about beating each other. They were both great wrestlers but met only twice in their life. Landun beat Erik 10-4 in the finals of our tourney and later that year Erik beat Landun 10-0 in a freestyle match that summer. This was the only time they actually met up on a mat other than practice. I would like to emphasize that the really best thing about their rivalry if you want to call it that is that they both had a lot of respect for each other.

BLAKE THIABAULT VS Brett Hille
Thiabault 2-1 advantage
Posted By: john Re: rivalries - 02/10/03 04:58 AM
what's Thibaults record this year?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: rivalries - 02/10/03 05:35 PM
Thiabault's record is 22-3 I think.
He is a intense wrestler.
Posted By: john Re: rivalries - 02/11/03 01:27 AM
Who has he lost to?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: rivalries - 02/11/03 02:58 AM
He lost to Kingsbury,Smith Center ,Fitzgerald,Marysville & Hille,Trego
Posted By: Westfahl Re: rivalries - 02/11/03 03:10 AM
Best rivalries I ever saw were Lowry and Lampe, Falkender and Horning, Duel and the whole state, Drake and Canfield, Beeson and Roberts, Ware and Terry (even though Terry couldn't beat Ware it was a great go).
Posted By: pin to win Re: rivalries - 02/12/03 02:57 AM
The best one was Shawn Bunch and Thomas Rhoades. I watched them at state and it was a very intense match. I think Bunch one. The crowd would always get into that match (usually on Bunch's side). One time at kids state everyone was just watching their match I swear. That is the best one.

i think 321a 145 is stacked with 4 guys that will all hang with eachother and have a great rivalry but i pick johnson to come out on top, but i would like to see drennon and pyle meet sometime durring the tourney. and one VERRY overlooked rivalry is the Annon norton and Spielman Hoxie matchup Annon leads 2-1
Posted By: bornbad Re: rivalries - 02/13/03 03:08 AM
I believe you are talking about Shawn Bunch and Michael Bradley, not Thomas Rhodes, but yes that match at kids state was one of the best matches I have ever witnessed!!
Michael Bradley won that match
