What does everyone think about Coach Sonderegger from Shawnee Mission East taking his own kid Ryan to a different tournament than the rest of the team to avenge a loss from the Bobcat Classic? Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

Eric Woofter's email address. This is Coach Sonderegger. We took Ryan to Baldwin because it was to have a number of highly ranked kids at 171.. Gleason, Oak Park (ranked 4th in Mo) Wiscombe from Trail
Starcher, Tonganoxie, Goleman Desoto. Last year, Holton took Strawn as it's only entry in this tournament so yes it has been done. We took Ryan to Baldwin to get him exposed to tougher competition, win or lose. As you might recall he's trying to win another 6A title. To get better you have to wrestle the best. Our team which has only one other individual with an above .500 record was better suited for a different tournament this weekend.

Only someone that graduated from Shawnee Mission East (I am looking at you Eric Woofter) would have a problem with someone trying to find better competition.

I thought that it was a pretty ballsy maneuver for Ryan to go to a different tournament, all the while knowing that he would take criticism if he didn't win. He'll rebound and take responsibility for the tough losses, unlike most people.

Selfish, poor leadership by the Coach and the Team Captain. How about a one man banquet at the end of the year. I never remember Joe Johnston trying that one during the High School season.

I remember a Colorado wrestler traveling to KS to try to avenge a loss against Spaudling from Emporia at the Newton TOC. Yes! the KS stud won
but give the kid credit for coming here to get tougher competetion. Give Coach and son credit for trying and do we know if the team supported them?

I am on the team and I supported them.

Maybe the coaches at SME should concentrate on improving their team as a whole--12 of 14 with a losing record? What's going on over there, coach?

Thanks KCWrestlersMom. Anyone know who beat Sonderegger? Starcher or Wiscombe? And the result?

Starcher beat Sonderegger in a very close match untell the final seconds Starcher was ahead 3-2 I believe and Starcher took Sonderegger down and correct me if I am wrong but may have got two back points.

Justin

You need to learn how to spell boy!

It is definitely, not definately -- previous post

And, it is until, not untell.

I really feel bad for you because it must be a genetic trait passed on by your father.

You know in this situation I can't really say I blame Coach Son for taking his kid to a tournament with tougher compeition, while letting the other kids go somewhere they might have a little more success at. It would really be a pain for the school to have to pay two entry fees to two seperate tournaments though.

Igel, of any public school in the state, I would guess SME has the least problem paying entry fees. Those fools use golden tennis rackets. (As opposed to the gold-plated tennis rackets of the Blue Valley schools.)

And I know wrestling is an individual and team sport, but I wouldn't have taken a kid to a different tournament. That's just me.

Isn't a team captain supposed to represent his team?

I'm sorry, but I would have felt let down if Cody Garcia, or anyone from hutch, would have done that.
