You gotta start with defending state champs Scott City. I'm not sure if they lost much last year, I'm pretty sure they have most of their athletes returning. Abilene, Columbus and Goodland are always hungry. I don't know if people would consider them a sleeper, but I'm interested to see about Andale. Andale has an incredible freshman class coming in with several Fargo competitors in that class in addition to a strong returning team. Augusta should have some quality freshman this year too. I'm sure coach those coaches will have their kids ready to go. No offense to anyone I left out, it's early in the moring and I don't know if my brain is functioning correctly yet.
Hungry or just plain loaded
One team that I notice left off the radar is Clay Center who is always tough. Uylsses is another 4a team that can't be forgotten. Chapman has plenty of good wrestlers back and hopefully can buckle down come day two of regionals to qualify someone to state.
103 should be good with some of the kids from last year and the addition of Flynn-Lansing and Mummaw-Jeff West
in 119 Callahan, Mundy, Buehler, Sharp, and Fisher could all be in that weight class which would be a GREAT Weight Class
What school will the Kellar twins be wrestling at, there will be 2 quality 103 pounders.
Will Nathan Furches and Trent Cox be Freshman this year? If yes what schools will they go to?
What about Brett Delich where is he going to school and what weight do you think he will be at.
4A Pre-Season Info:
(Returning State Points/Qualifiers/Placers)
1-Clay Center (68/6/3)
2-Abilene (62.5/4/3)
3-Scott City (58/8/3)
4-Santa Fe Trail (54/4/3)
5-Columbus (52.5/5/3)
6-Colby (40/3/3)
7-Goodland (39/4/2)
8-Andale (38.5/3/2)
9-Ulysses (36/3/2)
10-Concordia (30/4/2)
There may be mistakes?!?!
The Kellers I heard are going to Bishop Carol. Furches is a 8th grader, I dont know about cox, and delich will go to mill valley.
Scarecrow, just to throw one more into the mix at 119, Isaac Wall is looking in that direction. I'm about 90% sure he'll be at 119, he should add something to what already looks like a strong 4A weight class.
I was almost positive that Wall graduated, but i guess i could be wrong.
My guess is mawcoach would know if Wall graduated.
Isaac is definitely back. We went to some tournaments together this summer and he has been working his butt off.
Dear Ben:
i guess i could be wrong.
Click on the following link and it will you take to last years Championship Bracket. You will note that Isaac Wall was a Junior last year.
2004 KSHSAA 112 lb. Championship Bracket! Do they teach the students at K. U. to do research?
Thanks for the heads up Richie Boy....I guess I figured wrong.
Of course I'm going to say Clay Center, but I would also say Santa Fe Trail.
Russell could make an impact this year. they have alot returning,. seniors, david williams, and alex ryan, jrs, ryan driscoll, cody lang, dalton kraft, dustin funk, seth underwood,so, kale wann,fr that might fair well levi ryan and colton lang alot of wrestling exp.for a young team.haope they have a good year.
no, no impact from russell
yea i actually think that russell will have an impact this year, they were pretty good last year.
I don't understand!! Is this a joke??? How do these people think Russell is going to have an impact in 4a this year? Last year they scored a whoping 8 points at the 3a state. Wow are they returning ALL those state placers or what?? Maybe its because 4a is that much easier good luck!!
Let me say if Russell has an impact I'll be just as shocked as many of you, especially with them going 4a. I went to regionals my freshman year (1995) at Russell when they were still there and it was LOADED with teams. Scott City, Concordia (that year's state Champs), Ellsworth (pretty solid 4a at the time) along with Abilene, Clay Center, I believe Colby and Goodland were there too. Someone help me out, I know it was pretty solid.
Scott City only lost 4 seniors last year....so with a pretty good chance of taking 13 or 14 to state again this year this year we should be pretty good bc 4 of them are returning state placers

Nathan is an 8th grader and will be at Derby and I think Trent is home-schooling this year and am not certain as to the school he will end up going to.
The beavers (Scott City) are going to be respectable, with several of the placers from last year back. I think they will have to step up and do it differently than they did last year though, Because If nothing has changed in the way the Regionals are set up they will be at Goodland this year. It is going to be very hard to qualify as many there as they did last year at Andale. That regional made a good showing at state last year, but it wasn't as deep as Goodland will be this year if it is drawn up as it was two seasons ago. So Scott City is going to have to produce more front side effort, as I don't see that it will be likely to qualify a whole team through Goodland. I would think with a lot of their very young guys improving, and with the addition of Guy Miller in the mix, they may be capable of that, but I think that is what they will have to do.
"ANY wrestler can be beat on any given day."
The Russell Broncos have fought a long and hard battle to build up the wrestling team. Finally now they are to the point of having kids that wrestled in kids club, now are coming in as freshman! Alot more to come in the future.
Best of luck to each and everyone of the Russell Bronco Wrestlers!
The thing that will be challenging for Russell is they will probably end up in a loaded regional, but then again you never know...look how far west Goodland and Colby are, yet they ended up in a regional that included Abilene, when I believe Scott City is actually closer. I think Russell would benefit being in a "weaker" regional if they were to have success this season with the youth on their team.
