The reason why no on e knows about the Hwts is simple....no one ever sticks around to watch them wrestle. Whats up with that? The crowd starts disappearing at the end of the third period of the 189lb finals match. HWTs get no love. I elect for the finals in all state competition in all classes be drawn in.
Posted By: Nigel Isom Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 05:30 AM
I think its becuase most HWT matches are pretty boring, just too big peopel pushing each other around. But I have seen some good ones
Posted By: Dingbat Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 01:44 PM
Nigel makes a good point. Maybe if the fatties would make a better effort to score more often, they would be more appealing to the crowd.

Then again, by the time you reach the state finals, there is always a good match worthy of 6 minutes of the crowd's time.

So in conclusion-->

Fatties as a whole: freakin' do something!
Fans: Watch the fatties in the finals.

I saw some great heavyweight matches, but those usually came in college. I saw Kellan Fluckinger of Arizona State beat Tommy Rowlands of Ohio State in double OT out in Las Vegas in 2002. It was awesome, they both launched each other into the scoring table and it got heated. In the end Rowlands couldn't escape Fluckinger in the 2nd Overtime.

Ding Bat i cannot believe you are taken that stand as fat as you are
Posted By: Dingbat Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 04:25 PM
True, I am fat as crap. However, I am just encouraging the fatties to take more shots. I always try to score as often as possible, sometimes having offensive explosions of 6-8 points. So for the love of the sport, shoot, you loveable fat tubs of goo.

Lavoie from Concordia shoots with a couple of different takedowns. He placed fifth and then third last year at state. We call him "Bear" because he's short, fast and mean for a heavy. I think he can hang with Bedore. Hope they get to wrestle.
Posted By: Dingbat Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 06:30 PM
Lavoie is a lot of fun to watch. I saw him at the Beloit tournament this year. I'm not sure if he can go with Bedore, but he is a very skilled and athletic heavyweight. Many fatsacks could take a lesson from this guy.
Posted By: boach_clack Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 07:26 PM
Lavoie does not look very explosive but he is pretty athletic. However when we speak about Bedore we are speaking of a Man-Child-Monster. And what the heck is a Fat-sack

Bedore is both the best looking Heavyweight athelete/wrestler I have seen since The Norton stud a few years ago. (Sorry, I guess it is old age. I can't recall his name right this minute)

Jeff Boyle
Posted By: tuffEnuff2 Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 08:22 PM
well they get so darn conservative, afraid to attempt a take down, or losing a point, it seems once a hwt scores, there a lot of stalling to try to hang on to protect the lead...

i want to see throws, laterals, underarmspins, jap wizs, singles, running doubles, tri-pod granbys...now thats a match!
Posted By: Pups4Ever Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 08:30 PM
I wrestled 215 and my whole team was always shouting at me "shoot!" and I never did, but then in one match, with about 5 seconds left, down by one in the consolation finals, I shot in without anyone saying anything... and I did it perfectly. My whole team was in shock. That was the first time I can really remember ever doing that in a match (I started wrestling in 7th grade).

The reason you don't see the fat dudes doing anything like that is because they aren't as strong as the lighter-weights COMPARATIVE TO THEIR BODY WEIGHT. It's not easy to move when someone is putting anywhere from 200-275 pounds of weight on your body.
Posted By: rocknraider Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/12/04 10:57 PM
Whatever the reason, heavy matches tend to be on the boring side because the ridicious amount of stalling and pummeling in the matches. I have seen heavies stand up and just touch chests for like half the match.

many of you have forgotten that there is a young man out there that has wrestled with Mr. Bedore. Tad Greer from El Dorado has had a two and a three point match with Jordan at the last two state tourneys. Just Doesnt get his a should not be forgotten about when the state tourney rolls around

Tony Lewis is within two or three every time they wrestle, as well, has greer ever wrestled with Tony? If he is really that close, there may be some very watchable last couple rounds at 275 in 4a this year! Also the Concordia wrestler, Lavoie (?) is really good, and there are always 2 or 3 from the far east that are solid wrestlers. The reason that Bedore is the favorite here is that none of the other guys are ever quite godd enough to beat him. doesn't mean it won't happen , just that it hasn't for a long time.

I always get upset when you go to a tournament and the announcer ask for the Outstanding Wrestler Award before the Heavys go. I rarely turn mine in until its over. I've had the opportunity to Coach several Heavyweight State Champs and a couple of them could shoot takedowns like thier lightweight counterparts. At our Augusta Invitational we draw for the starting weight in the finals and give the 275 guys an equal opportunity to wrestle in front of the fans. For the last two years we've started at 215.
Posted By: markschieber Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/13/04 04:03 AM
It's true about there being not a lot of action in those heavyweight matches. However, that doesn't mean that people don't always stay and watch. Some guys, like Venegas last year, you would just stay around to watch him thrash whoever he wrestled. We don't really have a Venegas this year though, at least from what I've seen. Some of the top 6A guys have have had really close matches with guys that you think they would obliterate. I've seen our heavywieght (not a SQ, losing record and everything) take Carrera the distance in several matches only to lose by one. He also gave Jones a scare and lost by like 3 or 4. Not trying to steal anyone's thunder, but you just never know with those bigguns.
Posted By: boach_clack Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/13/04 03:03 PM
I hear what all you guys are aying but the HWTs go to practice and compete just like everyone else....don't they desrve some respect. Whenever 2 reall good wrestlers lock up no matter how much they weigh there tends to be a little bit of stalling and holding on.
Posted By: nomad Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/13/04 03:25 PM
Why not reverse the order and see what happens. I would say that by the time you get to the 112- 103 weights you would have the same result. Everyone running for the door!
Posted By: Dingbat Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/13/04 10:37 PM
I would stay. I give all of the Skinny Bennys of the world just as much love as the Fat Pats.
Posted By: mike fairleigh Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/14/04 05:37 PM
Probly the most tense match i have seen all year is Tony Lewis and Jordan Bedore at the S.W. classic. We stayed around well after our last guy got done just to see it and im glad we did. There wasnt even alot of action. And whoever said that heavyweights aernt as strong as there lightweight counterparts is for the most part right but, these to are. In fact i dont think i have ever seen that much power on the matt in my whole life! and when bedore slammed lewis back to the matt in the second period i felt the ground shake from across the gym!! It was awsome. and it am really looking forward to watching those to go at it again at the state tournoment.

What about Eric Seeman from colby who wrestled 275 as a senior he was pretty built
Posted By: bswitz171 Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/15/04 06:00 PM
We have a 2nd year heavyweight that is pretty athletic and might turn some heads at state this year.
Posted By: Atomic Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/15/04 09:07 PM
I agree Taylor is a very good wrestler he should be able to turn some heads
Posted By: my2boys Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/15/04 10:12 PM
At the CTL league this weekened they did the finals ,where all the weights were in different order. They did some heavy weight and then some lighter weight it was kinda nice it was not in order.
Posted By: boach_clack Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/16/04 12:17 AM
I wAS AT A TOURNAMENT ON sATURDAY AND THE SAME THING OCCURRED...i SERIOUSLY THINK THE WEIGHTS SHOULD BE DRAWN IN AT STATE
Posted By: jhballer58 Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/17/04 01:15 AM
I've seen a few heavywieghts who shot anyone remember witt hinton from baldwin he was smaller than everyone. If you get a heavyweight that throws it can really get people off there feet.
Posted By: Old Boy Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/18/04 02:49 AM
fanatic, you are talking about Jeff Boyle. That was one bad a$$ wrestler. He would tear Bedore apart, but, Bedore i agree, is the best since then.
Posted By: jb83 Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/18/04 03:04 AM
I agree that Boyle would tear Bedore apart, and anyone else for that matter, but I think that Ubben was the best since Boyle.
Posted By: Wiscombe Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/18/04 03:18 AM
I watched Ubben wrestle in the Fort Hays vs. Truman Duel he is a monster, and is a great athlete for as big as he is. I would love to see him and Big Jordan wrestle.
Posted By: Dingbat Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/18/04 07:39 AM
While I agree that Jeff Boyle was the best heavyweight to come out of Kansas, I would say that A.J. Polansky was the best since him. In the only head-to-head match-up betwixt the two, Polansky wrestled Boyle to a 5-2 loss during freestyle. I doubt Bedore could stay that close.
Posted By: boach_clack Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/18/04 03:33 PM
Dingbat that is very tasty information that I did not know about our pal. Bedore could not hold a candle to AJ
Posted By: cgg160 Re: Why No One Knows About the HWTs - 02/19/04 02:35 AM
Are we talking about folkstyle or freestyle? Because I think that Bedore would hold his own in freestyle. That kid is on of the best throwers I have ever seen. Plus his gutwrentch is the toughest around.
