In 4A I can think of Scott City?
bishop carroll not too bad, hutch?
both good answers... hoxie isn't too bad... oakley for that fact either
SC is great in football 34-0 ?
I couldn't remember if Scott City was good this year or not. They weren't bad a few years when I was in high school, so I threw their name out there before I thought of Oakley or Hoxie.
In 4A I'd definitely have to go with Andale.
sainty is 5-2 as of last night, norton is also 5-2
http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/StateMain.mxp/Kansas is a good link for football info.
salina south should in this mix
silver lake is alright this year
The Sunflower League dominates year after year in football, but can't seem to do it in wrestling. The East Kansas League usually has teams that do well in both football and wrestling, (Aquinas, Blue Valley, and BVNW.)
Lawrence High dosent have a bad wrestling squad.
i mean were not super good but were pretty good.
Hey Scott City is still pretty good in football and wrestling...a couple of the reasons we lost that bad friday night is because our guys didn't show up and Ulysses wasn't getting anything called on them ok. And who hadn't lost till friday?.....scott city....whose hasn't let anybody score on them since the first game of the season until then....Scott City. So ya if i were u i would rethink what your gunna put on here before you actually do next time
LiL Sharpe, what other excuses are you going to make for Ulysses totally dominating the Beavers? Were you there? If so why don't you admitt that Ulysses has the better football team. Also about SC's defense, the reason they had only 6 points scored against them all year long is that they hadn't played anybody. I'm just tired of all the excuses people are making for the total domination, give credit where credit is due, Ulysses was and is better in Football.
Manhattan always has a great football and wrestling teams.
Ulysses is a great football team right now, and I don't see very many 4a teams competing with them.
Scott City is a very good football team, but Ulysses was much better that night. No reason to get so defensive. Both will have outstanding wrestling teams this year also, if I were betting on it.
how about guys that are both great wrestlers and great football players? i know both Strawn and Roberts play on that juggernaut of a team up in Holton, and i hear Guy Miller is one of the top lineman recruits in the state. any others?
I heard that Miller got hurt against Ulysses and did not play more than a few plays. Any truth to that Lil Sharp?
YA he got injured in the first series of play on friday night, TigerPride....i was there but i really couldn't see anything bc i was cheering and i'm not really that tall so it was hard to see over our guys, plus our coach was making us cheer an awful lot ok, ya i agree Ulysses does have a pretty awesome team this year though. But they aren't the best team in the state either
Thanks LS...good luck against Hugoton this week.
I personally think the two top teams in 4A football are Holton and Hayden. According to several Hayden players, they are better this year than they were last year when they won state. They play nothing but 5A and 6A schools until district and they are still undefeated this year. Don't know about their wrestling but in football, they dominate. Abilene comes to mind when people talk about great wrestling programs and good football teams. They were 5-1 until they met Chapman and now they are 5-2. Chapman is 6-1. Most of our wrestlers are young and with Abilene and Clay Center in our league, we have an uphill battle but do plan on giving it all we got.
LS, sorry for being so blunt, but UHS does have the better football team this year..Having said that, tradition is on your side, with all the championships in both football and wrestling, and sounds like you guys might compete for a state championship in wrestling, something Ulysses won't be able to do this year although they will be better than predicted. Last year was a fluke, with Coach Prieto getting injured and being out for over a month. Good luck this weekend.
Thanks for the link, Tuff Enuff!!!!

4a football and nobody competing with them? I think the 2nd ranked team in the state would give them fits: Topeka Hayden.
Like I said, I don't see very many 4a teams competing with them, but there are some that will.
Sharp,
What other big guys? I will give you the one on the sideline hurt. Ulysses had more than double the penalties and yards in penalties as SC. If you only are playing the teams for next year and gettting ready for next year (3A) you shouldn't loose. Most "GREAT TEAMS" play tougher teams. That is why they have BCS, it all plays into it when it comes to district play. I am betting on Ulysses Shelstin.
i think Andale can compete with anyone this year
Paola and Baldwin both have good wrestling teams and there football teams only have 1 loss each
Based on the topic title which is great fb with best wrestling, Hayden is out. And, based on the Eagle fb rankings, last year's state wrestling finishes and this year's predictions, the teams in my opinion that best fit the topic title are, Hutch, NW, BC, Manhattan, Seaman and Andale.
im going to have to go with Smith Center they rock at football and there pretty strong in wrestling too!
st thomas aquainis... they have a good football, wrestling, baseball, and volleyball
bishop carroll has the same.
northwest has a great football team, i wouldnt consider their wrestling team to be one of the top.
andale is very good
this question is hard to answer. in football generally the higher classes (i.e. 6a, 5a) seemly are tougher, and the lower classes are weaker (in most cases). but in wrestling it is somewhat reversed ***team wise- the smaller classes tend to be tougher wrestler wise, but the teams are weaker, and the larger classes have more wrestlers on their team which leds to a chance of having better wrestling teams.
good post notimer, but....
Northwest was 6th in 6A last year and should be higher this year. They could have 3-4 champs, at least finalist.
Also, I would not say that smaller class wrestlers are tougher. Last year, the large team won the all-star classic which is all individuals from different teams. Plus, the bulk of Kansas's high school all-americans and D1 all-americans the last ten years have been from large schools.
a little off topic but if you get metro sports, tonight the showdown in "o" town will be on. Olathe east 8-0 and Olathe south 8-0 will be playing. should be a great game
BC Football has 5 wrestlers:
Brenen Cody 215
Roman Cabrales
Ben Meyer
Tyler Rosenhamer
Mitch Arnold
They play Great Bend and I am sure GB has a lot of wrestlers.
