Who has the least losses in four years. I know Ross Taplin has lost 6 times, Danny Grater has lost 7 times, Joe Cornejo has lost 7 times. Does anyone have less than that, what about Josh Baldridge or Tommy Edgmon?
Posted By: Ole Timer Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 04:25 AM
Baldridge has 5 - 3 his freshman year and 2 his sophomore year I believe.
Posted By: Computerized Shoes Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 04:38 AM
I've only lost like 50 times in my career...don't know if that will help with your stats.
Posted By: Gibby Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 11:29 AM
Bo Maynes never lost to a Kansas opponent in his four years. I'm not certain, but I don't think he ever lost a high school match.
Posted By: coach neil Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 11:45 AM
Zach Roberson never lost in Kansas during his high school career.
Posted By: MikeT Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 12:02 PM
I know about Bo and Zack. I was talking this year. thank
Posted By: tuffEnuff2 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 12:11 PM
Billy Gabel Saint Francis 125-5 h.s. career
Posted By: mawcoach Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 12:43 PM
Good thread. I know that this might be intended for only this year but some of the older guys have incredible records. I believe Maynes lost a couple of times out of state, not sure about Roberson. Todd Drake was 126-1-1 when wrestlers could still tie. The one loss? Coach Ross of Derby.
Posted By: resslnfan Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 02:26 PM
Bo Maynes and Zach Roberson never lost a high school match. That is what separated them from the previous outstanding wrestlers in Kansas high school history.
Posted By: Aaron Sweazy Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 03:45 PM
The thing in my opinion that seperates Bo Maynes from the other 4 time state champions is that he was never taken down in a match during high school.
Posted By: Brent Lane Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 03:57 PM
Bo Maynes was 138-0 for his high school career.
Posted By: Bronco Wrestler Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 04:00 PM
He was never taken down? that's an accomplishment in itself, talk about control...
Posted By: Scooby Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 04:02 PM
Coach Lane-

was thinking the other day about a south wrestler that I was friends with and knew he had medical problems but haven't heard anything and was hoping you could fill me in

Kelly Meade I believe was his name- a very good wrestler back in the day.
Posted By: Scooby Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 04:04 PM
The old days bring me to wrestlers like

Wes Harding- Southeast of Saline
David Canfield- Concordia

Not sure what their records ended up being but I would have put my money on either of them
Posted By: mawcoach Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 04:50 PM
Sorry fellas. Must have gotten my memories mixed up about Maynes. Knew about the takedown achievement. Perhaps I was thinking of Justin Ware of Ark City when I made the comment about out of state losses. Perhaps I'm just getting the old-timer's disease. For the spelling movement, old-timer's is different from Alzheimer's. No spelling error there.
Posted By: wildcatcoach Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 05:23 PM
Neil Erisman has a career record of 94-3 while only a junior. Two Losses in Kansas, One in Oklahoma.

In regards to Kelly Meade from Salina, he passed away several years ago.

Who did Ngo of Concordia lose to?
Posted By: RichardDSalyer Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 06:53 PM
Corey Jones wrestled for Kapaun in the mid 80's and was undefeated his junior and senior seasons, the only seasons Corey was on the varsity.

This included two championships at the prestigious Perry Tournament of Champions in Perry, Oklahoma.

Were I to research the archives at Kapaun I am reasonabley certain we could add the names of Neal Keller, Mario Pyles, Kelly Brewster and a few others.

Of recent vintage, I believe Doug Hoover lost only three times his freshman year and was undefeated his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Posted By: RichardDSalyer Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 06:55 PM
From Ark City, the Ramirez, Hernandez, Munson, etc. clan, along with Justin Ware will belong in this group.
Posted By: Pups4Ever Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 06:58 PM
I don't think Earl Jones of Coffeyville-Field Kindley lost more than 10 matches (I think his loss total is more like 5). His last loss in high school was the state tourney finals his freshman year. He was undefeated his sophomore, junior, and senior season.
Posted By: Pups4Ever Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 07:11 PM
Update - Earl Jones's record was 138-6. Like I said, all 6 losses came his freshman year.
Posted By: bobphillips Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 07:16 PM
Their may be some changes in the list I posted earlier. In the spring of 2001 I sent letters to every wrestling coach in the state of Kansas asking for their schools wrestling records. I also included a copy of the then current State Wrestling Records. I had great response from coaches across the state. But like the discussion above I know we didn't get all but we had to start some were. So if you can find wrestling records that are not posted let me know. We just need to verify them.

That would be me Aaron.
Posted By: Travis Phippen Re: Least Career Losses - 02/16/05 07:43 PM
Beau Vest from Topeka High had only 2 losses in high school.
Posted By: I'm your huckleberry Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 12:20 AM
I am sure Doug Duell from Goodland only lost one match. I think it was his freshman year and the kid who beat him was a Sr.
Posted By: resslnfan Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 12:46 AM
That would have been Pope from Hoxie. There was also another wrestler from the Wichita area that never lost to a Kansas opponent, but lost twice to Oklahoma kids. Who was that?
Posted By: dalefish1 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 12:55 AM
Boyle from Norton - I don't Know his record, but he sure impressed me.
Posted By: RJW Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 03:30 AM
The amazing thing about Boyle is I do not think he even placed as a freshman (may of not even qualified). I want to say he wrestled around 151 (yes that was a weight that year) or 160 and I think he got beat out of his regional. State champ the next three years!
Posted By: weatherhead 112 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 03:39 AM
I remember watching him in the finals his senior year. I think he pinned the kid in like 13 seconds
Posted By: Bronco Wrestler Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 03:42 AM
Weatherhead how old are you? are you a freshman?
Posted By: Pups4Ever Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 04:04 AM
Bob: Earl's record was in a Topeka Capitol Journal article after he won his 3rd state title. It was posted under here in the topic "one-legged man in a butt kicking contest."

Boyle was dang good

I'm pretty sure Beau Tillman of Pratt only had 3 or so losses in his high school career. One of those losses came in the state finals from a guy be beat three times in the state finals. Not 100% sure but pretty stinkin close.

Yeah, I heard that. I also heard (at least according to him) that one referee's decision was a load of bull.
Posted By: wrestling20 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 06:02 PM
bobphillips...Kriegbaum lost 4 times in his career. 3 his freshman year and once his senior year. What about Dusty Spaulding from Emporia? I think he lost about a total of only 7 matches in his career and he almost took down Bo Maynes, but the ref didn't give it to him.
Posted By: chappy Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 06:07 PM
I'm pretty sure Shawn Drennan from Mpls only lost 6 times in highschool

Wes Harding lost to Canfield his senior year and I think again at state but can't be totally sure. Ref decision are always tough and a good idea that we got rid of it to a point. I think the Dbl Overtime we have now

Weatherhead has been going to the High School State tournament and watching since he pup. I remember them good old days and this weekend he will try and be the one wrestling in hays. He should be the one wrestling in the Championship in Hays if he was more self confident-
Posted By: Noble130 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 06:21 PM
i think the only thing weatherhead has to do is want it.
Posted By: Scooby Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 06:30 PM
See I think he needs to take it. Then hit the weight hard next year and come back and not let it go- get down to 103 - really weatherhead only 3 more years at 103 and you will be able to eat again -- whats the big deal
Posted By: P. Pitbull's Old Dog Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 06:31 PM
Chris Bell of Salina Central might have lost 6-10, all in his Freshman year, the year he started wrestling and first time on the mat.

He went 84-0 his next 3 years and his Senior year nobody came within 8 points of him. He had a major, superior, or fall on all of them.

For you young bucks there was no tech fall and a superior was a win by 12 or more points. He dominated back in a time when their were some awesome wrestlers,

I still have a great amount of respest for Roy Oeser of KMC though, a 4X state champ at 155, 167, and 185, to do it at the upper weights is just awesome.

Coach Peterman
Posted By: usawks1 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 07:14 PM
Brent Rechtfertig of Wellsville only lost two matches in high school both to the same wrestler. Effingham's Doug Speer had his number in both the regional and state his junior year.
Posted By: fatoldman Re: Least Career Losses - 02/17/05 07:59 PM
I'm not sure of his record, but Matt Treaster from Beloit won 4 state titles (81-84), 3 at 123A and 1 at 4A. I believe that he only had a couple of losses. He was a 1998 KWCA Hall of Fame inductee.
Posted By: Travis Phippen Re: Least Career Losses - 02/18/05 01:17 AM
Shoes, Beau Tillman lost in the state finals to Jeremy Long. He got pinned with 20 seconds left in the match. Jeremy hit him in the trusty ol head lock. Jeremy ended up with four state titles, but he never lost to Tillman.
Posted By: someoldguy Re: Least Career Losses - 02/18/05 04:59 PM
Also, Kriegbaum only had 3 losses in high school. Freshman year: Andrade (Salina South), Hinderliter (Ottawa). Senior Year: Garcia (Colby). How many career losses did JB Harding have? He was an excellent wrestler! What about the Dong boys from Concordia?
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/18/05 08:00 PM
What about Temore Terry (sp)?
Posted By: mikeholliday Re: Least Career Losses - 02/18/05 11:48 PM
Teamore Terry (sp) could never beat Justin Ware so he had several losses. Josh Gooch of Wellington only lost 1 high school match...didnt wrestle his freshman year, undefeated sophomore, lost in the state finals to David Seamonds of Spring Hill his Jr. yr and was unbeated his Sr. year. And no I'm not in love with Gooch...just a small man crust. Also EK Franks from Wellington (3 timer I believe) had to have a great career record.

what was david rays record from goddard. 78-81
Posted By: Wrestler02 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/19/05 03:29 AM
Justin Dyer from Olathe South was undefeated his last three years i believe.
Posted By: Westfahl Re: Least Career Losses - 02/19/05 05:11 AM
Dyer was third at the Junction City Tourney his Sophomore year, he was coming off an injury.

Layton from Independence lost only twice, once by injury disqualification and once his freshman year at Eldorado to Watson of Schlagle other than that he was clean and a four timer
Posted By: wrestling2005 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/20/05 04:24 AM
Triston Deshazer from Wichita West has over 100 wins and only 3 losses, 2 of them to Tommy Edgmon. He is only a Junior and will more than likely go undefeated at State and all next year.

Two wrestlers who were not included on the list are both from Concordia

I was suprised NOT to see Wes Harding on Bob's list. (By the way, his referee's decision loss in the state finals was to Lance Shepard from Hoxie) I figured Rechfertig would be on there, I was lucky enough to have been one of his 100 victims. Tough Kid! I would be curious to know how many on that list wrestled above say 119 or 125 their freshman year. Anybody?
Posted By: A. Oncewas Re: Least Career Losses - 02/22/05 05:43 AM
Also, what about Chris Bolling (I believe that was his name) from Immaculata?
Posted By: usawks1 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/22/05 04:03 PM
Chris Bolen was one tuff hombre!
Posted By: SEK Man Re: Least Career Losses - 02/22/05 07:33 PM
Harding only had 1 loss, his last. He had the longest winning streak in the state until Maynes broke his win streak record his senior year.
Posted By: DOUG MOORE Re: Least Career Losses - 02/22/05 07:54 PM
Wes Harding suffered three losses in his career. They all occurred his senior season. He was indeed undefeated his first three years of wrestling. His first defeat was to Dave Canfield of Concordia in an early-season dual. His next defeat was at the Beloit Inv. where he lost to Brewster of KMC. Harding took third behind Canfield (1st) and Brewster (2nd). All three had been state champs the year before, talk about a tough weight class. His final loss was his last match, the state finals his senior year. As for the longest win streak, that was held by Chris Ngo of Concordia of 91 matches until Bo Maynes broke it.
Posted By: mike elliott Re: Least Career Losses - 02/22/05 08:09 PM
Harding lost to Keller of kmc He beat Brewster in the finals the year before
Posted By: Straightshooter Re: Least Career Losses - 02/22/05 09:18 PM
I thought Jason Blanding was in there somewhere breaking Harding's record and then of course Maynes and Roberson.

Lyle Gyer from Leoti only lost once as a freshman

Posted By: A. Oncewas Re: Least Career Losses - 02/23/05 04:29 PM
Lyle Geyer was one of the most dominating wrestlers I ever saw in high school wrestling. Don't thin he faired so well in college at Northern Colorado (might have burned-out) but he took it to people. Co-Outstanding Wrestler at the 1992 Senior Nationals w/ Cary Kolat of Penn State fame. Anybody remember who it was that beat Geyer?
Posted By: A. Oncewas Re: Least Career Losses - 02/23/05 04:31 PM
BTW, I went to Nationals w/ a kid with the last name of Hayes (Chad Hayes, maybe?) who only had 1 or 2 losses in high school. Info?

If my memory serves me right, Chris Bollin from Immac finished his hs carrer with only one loss. It was the semis match his freshman year and yes I am old enough to remember that match.
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 03:53 AM
technically, i was undefeated in high school. I was in Ark City and wrestled JV behind beeson and hernandez. when they graduated I moved out of state and then went undefeated and won a state title and earned All America. It's a shame to me that more wrestlers from Kansas don't perform as well at the college level. Well, not all I mean Ware, Hernandez or most of the AC wrestlers.

By the way is that coach Billy Ross from Ark City?
Posted By: A. Oncewas Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 05:02 AM
Ware and Terry (Temore) were the weight above me in Kids state one year when I broke my collar bone in the championship semis and couldn't finish the tourney. They were both my age if I remember correctly and I didn't see either at Senior Nationals. I know Temore was wrestling Greco nationals, any info on what Ware was up to?

P.S. JV doesn't count. Not saying you weren't good, but it just doesn't count.
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 05:18 AM
Yes
I know it doesnt count which is why i wish I could have made the sarcasm go a little bit. Justing graduated in '92 I think Temore was in '93 is that right? Justin won senior nationals and then went to Nebraska where he almost beat Alan Fried as a redshirt freshman. He lost his opening two matches at nationals and was ranked #6 in the nation with only a couple losses at the time. Justin was at NEbraska just those two years and then left in '94. I don't the details of why, we kind of drifted apart.

By the way, I was just using the fact I was on JV at ARk City, but still an undefeated state champ and all american just to show how competitive the wrestling room was in ark city.
Posted By: A. Oncewas Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 05:35 AM
Point taken. Yes, Temore graduated in '93 w/ me.
Posted By: A. Oncewas Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 05:44 AM
Did Justin have a brother named Dustin?
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 01:27 PM
No He had 2 older sisters-- Debbie and Julie and one younger sister Valerie.

You may be thinking of Devin BAhm that had a brother Dustin.
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 01:58 PM
Back in the early 90's Ark City had several kids come off one or two years of JV to be dominant state champs. They were unreal good!!!

I am sure Mike Farleigh will argue that some team in WESTERN kansas was better, but I find it hard to beleive that any team ever in Kansas was as dominant as Ark City in the early 90's.
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 07:26 PM
It's kind of hard to argue that any team would beat a teacm with 2 national champions and a 3rd place finisher. Those being Chris Hernandez who won senior nationals and chad beeson who placed third and along with justin ware who also won senior nationals and dont forget scott goodale who was a DII national champion.
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 10:12 PM
I am pretty sure Scott Gooddale and Travis Brooks could not make varsity and then went on to win 4 or 5 combined state championships!!!
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 10:15 PM
There is one person no one really remembers, but a complete waste was Eddie Borror from ARk City. He was probably the best ever from Ark City, but only won state twic. Once because he was in Oklahoma and another because he got kicked off the team before regionals. He was awesome on the national level and faired very well on the Olympic ladder. I'm not exactly sure how well, I do know that he was killed in a car accident returning from his wedding a couple of years ago and his obituary read that he was a world champion. Im not sure of the accuracy.
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 10:18 PM
No, scotty Goodale was varsity at 112 his freshman year. he had to move up from 103 b/c justin was there. he didnt do too well. i do remember one time him saying he was gonna win state 3 years and i laughed because he had a losing record at the time. and as far a Brooks goes. I could not believe he came along like he did. he just quit growing. he was on JV as a freshman and really came along.

One thing I noticed to was that there were 5 wrestlers from that 92 class including myself that went on to wrestle in college. remarkable
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 10:19 PM
btw it is brooks travis not travis brooks
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 10:22 PM
Yeah, I thought I might of had that backwards.
But wasn't Brooks JV his fresh and Soph year, then a 2x champ?
Posted By: stuckey Re: Least Career Losses - 02/25/05 11:06 PM
I think so. My sophomore year was Goodale 103 Brooks 112 and Ware 119 I think.

Sorry I'm Late on this one...Check out the following site for record info, etc. Kansas State Hall of Fame

It seems that the list of 4-time state champs is only partial, since the paper said Baldridge was the 18th.

Hey Scooby/Noble (or Weatherhead112)--Who are Weatherhead112's parents? I assume he is a grandson of Genie and Dean; and I know he's not Curt's, Karl's or Jared's...so that leaves Dana or Craig? (Can't remember Travis having a little brother...but I've been away for a while)

Bigpin22; You may be right, the 90's teams at AC were pretty much the height of Kansas wrestling at the time, and possibly of all time. The teams that I remember in NW Kansas are all as old as I am and it would not be safe for us to wrestle now, but some of those teams were quite dominant in their own time. the very impressive list of AC guys that went on to College success sets them apart, and you very well may be right about the superiority of their credentials. The only thing that the NW guys have over the AC guys is that they did it first, not necassesarily (never can spell that word right) better. hopefully this will clarify my position, and the fact that I do have respect for what the 90's AC guys did.

What about Jesse West? I know he moved to Iowa his senior year and only had 1 loss there in the state final.
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: Least Career Losses - 03/02/05 09:11 PM
Jesse West lost to in the finals his senior year to a friend of mine named Josh Budke from Cedar Falls Iowa. Jesse had beaten him twice earlier in the year. Budke went on to wrestle for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Cedar Falls team that Budke wrestled for was sort of like the early 90s Ark City teams, but wrestling in Iowa!
