Does anyone know if these tournaments will be weak or tough? Salina South and Chanute. I only have heard of a few teams that will be at these tournaments and I am not impressed. Can someone help me out and tell me some more schools. Thanks.
The teams attending the Salina South Tournament are Salina South, Salina Central, Manhattan, Hutchinson, Great Bend, Atchison, Tonganoxie, Washburn Rural, Wichita West, Junction City, KC Turner, and Gardner Edgerton.
I think the teams at this tournament are very good and present great lineups week in and week out.
i hear the derby tourney is pretty tough and then the rose hill one also.
I wresltle for Spring Hill and last year, since our team was pretty good, we took a trip to Salina for that tourney. We had one every tourny we were in up until that one. We arent goin this year because from 145 up were all senoirs. Our coach knows that now all we have is lower weights and will suck to bad to return to salina
it is not a very tough tourny but watch for the SMS int. because Platte Co. of missouri is going to be there and they will be good gauges to see how good the KS wrestlers at the tourny are.
Do you mean the SEK tourney that's held in chanute??
platte Co. is coming to SMS tournament this year well we all know who is going to win that one. Are they as good as they where in the past
the bvnw invitational is pretty tough. i think about 20 teams and it has hutchingson, WW, and goddard to say the least. this is a tournament to separate the boys from the men, u can see some awesome matches at this one.
the basehor linwood tourny is pretty tough, is it not?
The Bobcat Classic (Basehor-Linwood Tourney) is beginning its third year on Jan. 17 and 18th. This year 22 teams will compete that will include several programs that have placed at state as a team over the past few years (ACCHS-Effingham, Columbus, Fort Scott, Garden City, Glenwood, Iowa, Paola, Santa Fe Trail). St. Thomas Aquinas, Olathe North, Junction City, Shawnee Heights, Free State, Turner, Baldwin, Chapman, Spring Hill, Bonner Springs, Sumner, Eudora, Blue Valley,
Harmon, and Basehor-Linwood also will compete. 38 returning state medalists, 11 2002 state finalists, and 6 2002 returning state champions return this year (this does not include Glenwood , Iowa's top finishers from last year). To give you an idea of the strength of this tournament . Last years 6A-5A-4A state champions at 160 were all here. Brett Stewart JC was first, Kurtis Baylor Columbus was 2nd,
and Nathan Payne Paola was 3rd. Also 2001 state champion Mike Stienmetz Turner took 5th. That is just one great example of the competition at this tournament. Please come and enjoy.
I think that the Bobcat Classic is by far the toughest tournament out there next to state. In some weight classes it is even harder than your state bracket. BVNW tournament isn't all that tough. There are a couple of good kids in certain weight classes, but it is not stacked like the Bobcat Classic.
The Beloit tournament also looks to be tough as always. Last year off the top of my head there were about 13 eventual state champions, and I think around 8 runner-ups.
State Champions: Kriegbaum(103), Mainus(112), Charbonneau(119), Spillman(119), Gilliland(125), Johnson(130), Zouzas(130), Wise(135), Drennan(140), Vogelsberg(171), Mortimer(189), Strait(189), Staab(215). Please fill in any I've missed.
Here is the list of state champions that competed at the Bobcat Classic (Basehor-Linwood Tourney) last year. I have also designated the state champions that will be competing this year:
1. Tanner Gardner-S. Heights - *returning
2. Emery McReynolds-Columbus
3. Nathan Allison-Ft. Scott-*returning
4. Nolan Cisper-St. Thomas Aquinas
5. Matt Dukes-Basehor-Linwood
6. Kirk Artist-Glenwood, Iowa
7. Ryan Kromer-Garden City-*returning ( Ryan was injured during our tournament last year)
8. Brett Stewart-Junction City
9. Kurtis Baylor-Columbus-*returning
10. Nathan Payne-Paola-*returning
11.Mike Stienmentz-Turner-*returning
12. Gabe Conaghan-St. Thomas Aquinas
13. Derek Faught-ACCHS( Effingham)
14. Josh Carroll-Olathe North
15. Adam Venegas-Olathe North-*returning
16. Kevin Pulliam-Harmon
Sorry, we forgot
Jordan Bedore from Goodland.
I would like to see a similiar list from the Newton tournament, which I think is probably the toughest tourney in Kansas. Other tough tourneys in my opinion are:
2.Beliot
3.Bashor-Linwood
4.Garden City
5.Liberal
6.Colby dual tourney
7.Hays
Rose Hill has to be included in that list.
I would have to say the toughest tournament in Kansas would be Newton. If you place at Newton you have a great chance of placing in any class at State.
You're right Mike. After some more thought I would add Rose Hill at maybe 4 or 5, would also add Derby at 9 and perhaps Ark city to make it a top 10. I'm sure I'm forgetting a tournament somewhere.
Revised tourney top 10: ( for fun)
1. Newton
2. Beloit
3. Bashor-Linwood
4. Rose Hill
5. Garden city
6. Liberal
7. Colby duals
8. Hays
9. Derby
10. Ark city
Where would I find the results for last years Newton Tournament?
Basehor had more teams that finished in the top ten at state last year than any other.
What about the clay center tourny??
Here are my toughest tournament picks:
Derby
Basehor Linwood
BVNW
The reason why I picked those three were because at those they have very good competition at each.
I think that the Beloit tourny is to be concidered the toughest tournament in the state. I mean last year, Johnson from minneapolis took second, I'm not even sure if Mortimer placed, Louzas placed fourth, if you place in this tournament it is almost a guarantee that you will place in your respective state tournament
