For those not there tonight at the clinic for Tyler, you just flat out missed it. Everything was fun but the new sport of Tag-Team Folkstyle Wrestling was officially started tonight, complete with trophy, flying hair, thrown down hats, and more. Was it fun, I don't think I have laughed so much in a long time, was it serious, you bet it was, one take down near the out of bounds line almost came to blows, I think involving Chenowith and Kreutzer. Several blood stopages, and some serious thinking about how to wrestle the corners for the tags of partners. By the way it was a 6 way tag team match.
Guys, thanks for coming out tonight. It was an honor watching you wrestle and getting to meet many of you. I know Swayz loved it and hopefully you didn't cause to much trouble at the Hut when it was done. On top of all of that though, you helped out a great little kid who would have had a blast watching live, real tag team action.
Best line of the night: by Referee Shane Koranda. "Boys I'm just making up the rules as we go, kind of like I did at Regionals." In the middle of the tag team match. By the way we did have designated rules, and they actually worked pretty well and added to the fun.
can i get a recap of the match? and who won?
This was the most fun I have had since Playdoh. The teams were as follows "The Triple Threat" including myself, Denis Farleigh, and Cole Kruezter vs. the "Other Guys" including Curtis Chenowith, James Watts, and Chase Kreutzer. The whole thing had a comical seriousness to it which was truly amazing. I almost guarantee that their wasn't a person in that gym rolling. Signature moves included my very own "Shaggy Hair arm toss" which brought Watts' face to the mat, he then escape on a weak call! TT was up 2-1. I think Chenowith then got a takedown or something to the affect. 1 period and tons of chaos and laughter later, the score was 10-7. All of sudden, my wig fell off...technical violation was called!?!?!? I was dinged for losing my hair!!!!!!!????? WHAT? Score is now 10-8 (can you tell I'm really getting into this). The tag is made, Cole comes in and loses a takedown to Chenowith. Score now 10-10. The two are wrestling close to the line when all of a sudden Cole tags me and I leap onto Chenowith scoring a "reversal." So technically Cole was still on bottom but he was a dead wrestler because of the tag. Curtis scores an escape and then a takedown and somehow the score is now 14-14 bringing us into OVERTIME! Overtime starts and a few tags are made switching players in and out suddenly Chenowith takes charge, attacks Cole and drops in with a sweet toss(don't remember because I was ranting and raving). Needless to say, Triple Threat lost to the Other Guys and the humongous trophy we found was awarded. Everyone then went to Kens Pizza and we had the best time ever. Night well done! Thanks guys...Love Andrew.
Sounds hilarious, I just wish I could be there...
Another thing, I talked to the ERIC AKIN. He spoke kind words and actually talked to me and shook my hand. Although I did not get the chance to wrestle him, standing next to him, having him grace my presence, was an amazing feeling. STUD! Akin is the man and Tyler G. is the man. Hang in their buddy you have some awesome guys pullin' for you!
Also it appears that Chenowith was the other team, he was the offense...sounds kinda lopsided having a guys that tied the career takedown record in all the time, ah well i guess you win some you lose some, just for me i lose more than i win

did anyone tape this match?
You missed out on an awesome event. I believe their will be another one. We are bringing the tag-team to the next one if their is one.
hey read the personal message i sent ya, i told ya to add me on msn.....alexryan86@hotmail.com
Also I know my coach is talking about hosting a freestyle tournament this spring and I was wondering if maybe we could host some folkstyle matches there as part of the fundraiser? I would love to wrestle someone in one of these matches, sounds like fun. It doesn't have to be a tag team match but just a good ol fashion match, could be lots of fun for a good cause, I'll try to make the sign up for the next one
I got a tape of the whole thing-- a lot of the lights on theroof, some of the mat spinning around to some closeups of Koranda, a few seconds of wrestling action-- I have been removed from cameraman duties. And how was I supposed to know what the zoomy thing was for?
I have a full and detailed (with commentary) tape of the tag team match. I will make copies and offer them for sale if anyone is interested. The proceeds will obviously go to Tyler. Just PM or something.
I didn't do all the work for my team. My tag partner Watts from El Dorado scored a couple of points. I think that was the funnest match that I've ever been involved with. And our names weren't the other guys. We were the Terrific Trio, until Kruetzer's little bro bailed on us, then we became the Dazzling Duo. And that's a great idea. Your always thinking.
Mike, do you think there would be a possibility of setting up another match during state? We love our free/greco exhibition, but we could do both. I could set up a team.
I've been working on a new move and have it almost perfected. I call it the "nipple grip throw monkey stomp." It's a deadly combo and when properly excecuted, leaves a beautiful bruise on the pectoral, mat burn on the face, and an opponent gasping for air from laughing so hard (I do a mean monkey imitation).
Gibbby, I had so much fun last night it was unreal. Computerized Shoes hit the nail on the head as to the description. I can't wait to get the Swayz report on this, he and Akin were supposed to be coaching, but Swayz was the only one taking the coaching thing serious

I don't think Eric ever coached, he was actually pressed for time and he had after all that long drive back to the KC area and was approached by all the little kids for autographs and all. Swayz was throwing hats, arguing calls the whole bit. I think I actually would support a rule to allow the coach to get out of his/her chair, show emotion, and become verbal. It just added to the fun. Of course if getting serious about it, we could never allow the coach to challenge a ref’s call. Just point things out. Shane did a great job here and has herby been promoted to chief and head official of the new tag team league.
Here is the crazy things, there was all of the antics of "fake" pro wrestling, but all of the seriousness on the mat of "real" wrestling. There was one scramble, don't remember who but it was as serious and tight as any scramble I have seen all year. That was of course until the wig came flying out from under the headgear. The action was incredibly fast, you could see the wrestlers having to use strategy of where to wrestle, when to tag, and how to take advantage of their strengths and weaknesses. This is going to really sound crazy, but wrestling like this could bring some people to watch the sport. It was kind of like the difference between soccer and indoor soccer. As a purest I love both sports, but I really love indoor because of the forced action, contact, and therefore believe it is a more consumer friendly sport. I can’t help but imagine that people who know little about real wrestling, would have watched this and enjoyed it. For those there and present last night feel free to disagree with me if I am wrong, or of course support me if I am right.
The rules were quite simple; scoring just like a regular match, with the exception of you couldn't ding for stalling when going to make a tag. The wrestler you tagged had to have their feet out past the out of bounds line. Tags could be made during the match, so if in a down position, and near the edge of the mat, the person on bottom could feasibly tag for the reversal as described above by Computerized Shoes. The tag could also be made on a whistle stoppage. Don't get me wrong here, Chenoweth did his share of wrestling, but his partner also did, their third partner did kind of bail but I don’t know if he really thought they were going to take the wrestling part so serious and he was after all only a 125 pounder. In hindsight, we might have done a better job at getting another partner. Juby showed up a little late, after the matches and all had been determined but he might have been a good one on that team. The match again was exciting, and a heck of a lot of fun.
Now to your point of something like this at state. It would be a blast but I just don't see them letting us do it. If they did people would be shocked at the quality of wrestling, thinking, and most of all fun and action added to the sport. Let me tell you however, I personally wouldn't consider doing it unless these guys were invited, they are after all the seasoned pros of the sport, tag team wrestling that is. Remember the match was 14-14 at the end of regulation so they were obviously evenly matched to some extent. We also apparently have a huge traveling trophy that goes to the current winner of the world title. Of course that is unless The Terrific Trio or as it ended up the Dazzling Duo is stripped of their title due to the lost team member. Of course, they have the right to the next championship match due to their winning of the last one unless they choose to negate the trophy. They will of course have to find a new partner, and as self proclaimed chairman of the league, along with the Swayz as acting Head and Chief Assistant, will have the final say as to who the opponents are and if it is a truly recognized event.
We also need to tinker with the rules a little but we are not far off from establishing an official version of rules. If everyone that participated or observed will make a few notations of what you think would have been better or ideas for rules let me know. I really liked the aspect of how the tags worked though, tagging on a stoppage, and tagging near the out of bounds line. We obviously need to look at the overtime rule. We didn't anticipate that, and I don't like the first take down in a tag team match. Maybe something like a set period of time or something.
If enough people asked we might also be able to get a demonstration, match at state, but like I said earlier, I can't imagine it happening but for Tyler, who knows. Guys thanks a lot, for the small numbers at the clinic, you keep it alive and people thinking of Tyler by your participation in the fun and exciting event, by the way which involved some great wrestling.
By the way, I want a tape, help me somebody, help me.
Last note here, want to see how much fun, yet how serious this can be. Try it in a practice room, you have nothing to loose, try it as described here and see what happens. Wrestlers will learn to keep the action in the center or they will learn to work their own space on the mat. It will actually be a lot of fun too. Won't be long before we see wrestlers everywhere taking on to the history that was accomplished last night.
This was by far the most fun i've had on a wrestling mat in my 4 years of high school. someone should seriously set up a tournament. 2 man and 3 man tag matches. oh and get a tape sent to everyone in the match. oh and i'm now the tag match sponsor for el dorado.
One of the really attractive things about tag teams is that it gives the wrestler in control a new incentive to stay as near the center of the mat as possible. I liked that part, Watching the tags and the effects of the way they were timed to result in scoring, and the experession on the guys faces when they went from the hammerer to the hammered was just so funny.
We need to show the tape to Tyler, and if he likes it, we could call the new league Tyler's League, or something to that affect.
Curtis that would be a great idea, let me know when you are ready to go make that visit, we live close enough that we could work it out and go up together if you want. I hope that to Hutch, a little closer than KC. By the way the thread is getting visited by folks across the country and even getting some discussion on the national forums. Would be a great place to go and make some comments on the National level. By the way, Shane, on the national forum Greco Johnson even mentions your line about making up the rules as you go.
Another great line during the event which actually tied the match up or got it to a really close point. Computerized shoes has this really nasty shag a licious blondish red wig on under his headgear, he looses the hair, how is not quite certain, maybe he was using it as a weapon. At that point Shane, the ref, stops the match, dings the team for a point for equipment failure. What is so bad, is that after the wig is thrown off the mat like a dead rat, the other team runs and grabs the wig to take full advantage of it's apparent power giving ability. In the meantime, off to the side of the mat arguing with the ref, Sweaz takes his hat, complete with like 11 wrestling pins, throws it down on the mat and yells out something like, "Hey man you can't ding a guy for loosing his hair." Ref responds, "not hair coach, it's a wig."

I would like to let you all know that I am proud of the wrestlers that took part in this event. It is a great testiment to our sport and our athletes. I am especially proud of you Jimmy Watts for taking part in this. It has been a long journey for you young man. Congrats on the state qualification. It is no easy task to get there. Tell Kaleb and Chad that I am very proud of the both of them as well. I knew you guys would be successful, as you are great kids. Thank you to my "First" freshmen class. I'm sorry I wasn't there to see you through it.
hey coach give me a call sometime. it's been a while and i'll tell everyone you said hi.
Hey what can I say...Do you the best with what you've got!!!
The thing I hate the worse, is the wrestlers involved asked me to use the WWE's version of the pin (3 slaps vs. the NFHS)...never got to use it!
;-(
Give me time...I'm writting the rules now as to not have to write them at Sweaz's expence!!
Let me know if there will every be a rematch and/or the use of the cage!!!
the sooner we get this goin' the better. prefferably before i get out of shape so i can keep doing it without dying. and we all need to go and hang out again if we get the chance. that was fun last night.
Was there mention of the trophy or did I miss it? Also I remember saying something to the effect at one point during the matchup between Gossett and Chenowith I was coaching Gossett and he was getting beaten and I said something of the effect of, "you can still win, it only took seconds for Taplin to beat him" (I was joking of course to get his guard off).
Great group of guys that were there! I think the best was getting the trophy and trying to lock Denis in the janitor's closet!
too bad the door didn't lock. oh and someone needs to burn that wig that gossett had. i seriously couldn't concentrate wrestling him from laughing too hard. that and every time i tried to tie up w/ him the wig would slip.

That was wrong man, just plain, flat out wrong!
Hey all, photos that I have are up at
http://www.tylergraebner.com Leave a message in the guest book, Tyler and family look at it every day. I will also post more photo's if I get them.

I say lets wait until everyone is fat and out of shape and then we go, it will be more fun. How does next week sound?
I'm all in! The wig, James, is now legendary and must be brought forth to each and every tag-team tournament. I have a feeling this is going to be big, just like the furious spread of dodgeball.
I'm in whenever you want to do it. I've found the new third member of our team. But you guys have to wait until the next match to find out who it is. I'll bring the big trophy to. We need to make a faceplate for it though. It can say something like the Inaugural Tag Team Champions. And I think all of us founding fathers of tag team wrestling need to take the tape up to Tyler.
Guys, I am currently working on an exhabition match and will have more details Monday evening. There will be a number of spectators there, but again, will have details as soon as Monday night, likely, Tuesday Morning. A lot of folks asking about the match tonight at Wichita Classic Weigh in's. Special thanks right away to Goddard and the Wichita Sports Commission for realizing the value of having something like this for Tyler there. Tyler shirts are starting to run low on sizes and for a $10 bid you get a shirt. There is a few to accomidate folks though, oh yea, had a $300 bid on the Gable poster at this point.
What other matches were there besides the tag team and what were the results?
Nathan Furches vs. Chase Kreutzer
Me vs. Chenowith
Denis vs. ??? Watts???
Me vs. Kreutzer
Chenowith over Gossett, Cole Kreutzer over Gossett, James (Watts) and Denis (Fairleigh) wrestled but I don't remember who won, and Chase Kreutzer beat Nathan Furches, as I recall. Denis is ready to do the deal again, the thing was just a great experience. The best part of the whole process is the way that the guys had a chance to get to know each other more as fellow wrestlers and less as opponents, I think it was just a really positive experience for everybody except the folks at Kens pizza! One thing that I think didn't get nearly enough play was the totally selfless effort put out by Mr. Akin-- We all had a great time, and a lot of the reason that we did was that Eric set the stage for a very positive night in the way that he encouraged all wrestlers that attended, no matter what their level of expertise. Denis got a little one on one time , and so did anyone else that sought it, and Mr. Akin's time was a lot cheaper than it should have been, he is really a fine asset to Ks. wrestling and I felt somewhat honored to have met him.
Denis I think won but might be wrong.
yea he won but no one really tried too much. we were trying to put on a show for the kids. and just let me know when we do it again cuz i can't wait. and i'd love to go up to KC to give the tape to tyler. just tell me when we go and i'm there.
Actually score for the Nathan Furches / Chase Kreutzer match was 2-1 Furches. dont want to get the little guy mad Mike.
1st period no points
2nd period Kreutzer chooses bottom, escape, Furches gets take down, rides out period.
3rd period Furches chooses bottom, Kreutzer battles for tilt most of the third period but doesn't turn Furches, and Furches does not escape.
Obviously I watched this one more intently than others.
Guys, i seriosly cannot say enough about this whole event. There were so many just trully amasing aspects to it. for starters we are helping a kid in great need. I dont even know who tyler is but i can say that being stripped of the ability to wrestle from cancer is a terrible thing. and anything i can do to help support i will gladly do. tell me when you guys take the tape. i wanna be there. another great aspect is the thought of a post season. thru severial of these clinics/ challange matches we will all become better wrestlers. and of course the last aspect. THIS WAS SOOO MUCH FUN!!! i honestly have not had that good of a time in way to long. it was great to get to know curtis and james who i had previosly never met. it was also great to catch up with computerized shoes. a former resident of pratt and a very good freind of mine. and the tag team match was BOMB. The thought of a tag team tournoment has crossed my mind many times since that night. you could start it at like 2 in the afternoon and be done in a few hours. with all the interest we might even hafta have to weightclasses on two different mats. who knows? but i think its deffinitly in the cards. and being one of the "seasoned vets" i would love to participate. in fact you couldnt keep me from being there no matter how hard you tried. o ya id also like to thank buhler high school for donating the trophy.
p.s. Dazzling duo and my fellow members of of the triple threat, i cannot wait till we do this again!
I definitely can't wait until we get together to do this again. I think that we should do this some time as just a tournament, without a clinic. We can charge like 5 bucks for people to come watch and all the proceeds go to Tyler. Then the next day, or day before we can have the clinic. We just move into a new high school and our gym is gigantic, we can fit up to 4 mats from wall to wall. I'm gonna talk to some people and see if we might be able to do all this in our new gym. It'd be great to break in the new gym with a big wrestling event. We can hype it up as much as possible. Have it on a Saturday and Sunday sometime after the kids state tournament. I think this could be very lucrative.
Sounds like a plan man! TAlk to everyone you can. LEt's get a date out there.
Curtis, check on the dates and let them know what the money and all would be for. I think that after kids state is a great idea. There are still a couple of tournaments that I am involved in, Reno Worlds and Mid America Classic after Kids that some in Kansas will be going to but the majority of "kids" are done with their season. I'll do everything I can to help though and be the contact person to get everything set up.
the sooner we get this thing rolling the better. i'll talk to everyone here once we get everything set up and i can probably bring about half my team and some of the kids club. we could probably do age groups just like kids. except instead of 14U and 16U you would have middle school and high school. it's gonna be great to have this going. this will give curtis and i some time to train before we both go our seperate ways in college. while he's going to Newman, i'm going to Labette. but i will be back every chance i get so always keep me posted.
For all of those involved at the Buhler Clinic, lets find a time to get together to finalize ages, weights, etc. I agree with the Jr. High, High School Division, and we need to look at weights. I go believe that the weights could be broader, like as much as a 20 pound spread for Jr. High and a 25 pound spread for High School, what do you guys think, I am also thinking of for Jr. High, and for old farts like me a Old Timers Division would be a blast.
Weights I am thinking of off the top of my head include:
Jr. High
80-100
105 - 125
130 - 170
175 - 195
200+
High School
100 - 125 (could use smaller if so desired)
130 - 155
160 - 185
190 - 215
Heavyweight
Just thinking off the top of my head but let's try and get the weights figured out, also those thinking of coming to wrestle give the input and it would be a great way for kids clubs and teams from kids clubs to get together.
that looks good to me. i'd love to find time to finalize this and also a date for the tourn.
Sunday afternoon would be a good time to get together for me if anyone wants to do it. Let me know and we can find a central location to work out the details.
sunday's fine for me. just let me know when and where
i just thought of something. on sunday afternoon we should all go and give Tyler the tape and see him and also figure everything out. it would be great to see him and we can also get him even more involved. plus we need to schedule one for when he can come and watch us all wrestle
and who says i don't have good ideas.
This all sounds great to me. And I don't have anything to do on Sunday so I could go up and see Tyler. I also just thought of another idea. We could take our tournament on the road. Travel to each corner of the state so we can get the people that don't want to travel that far involved.
Ideas, ideas, ideas who is going to make a schedule and plan this shiznit out...?
Hey Guys, I just got news tonight that we would like an exhibition or two of the tag team duo at the Derby Novice Tournament. For sure 1 exhibition of it and possibly two. More details to come. This will be a great place to showcase the event, who is in for it. The date is 3/13 and here is a link to the tourney info:
http://www.usawks.com/invites/050313_Derby.pdf Let me know what you think.
count me in! i think a Triple Threat v. dazzling duo rematch is in order. or if some other teams maybe from the witchita area wants in, i would glady join forces with the D.D. and we would be the ultamate tag team power in the state of kansas! maybe even the universe! on the way up sunday to give tyler the tape( we should watch it first, i havent seen it) we could all talk about dates, locations, all that great stuff. i know h.s. gyms can be rented and i think alot of people will come and watch this stuff. im sure we can get something going. All this talk means nothin though, we gotta work and get this off the ground. Lets make it happen!!
p.s. Does anybody know how to get ahold of Kirk fairly? i would love to get him in this deal. we could have a all Fairleigh/ly tag team. WE cold be the Fighting Fairleigh's. if you know were i can reach him let me know please!
as long as it's on sunday it's ok with me. we can postpone going to see tyler but we need to do that. And Curtis that's a good idea. we should go to different parts of the state.
oh and Gossett you are and idiot.
what's the weight range for this style of wrestling? We have a group here in Russell that's interested....let me know
we have 125,130,and 152 i think but now after wrestling is over we're 139, 137, 159 respectively, let us know and maybe we can work something out?
Salina's pretty centralized isn't it? we could do it there?
ill talk to the pratt little guys, maybe i can find a team for you to wrestle.
Salina would be a great place to do it! That's super close for me and is just down the highway!

Why use punctuation when you can't even capitalize the first letter of a sentence nor use commas appropriately, Idiot! Don't make me arm drop you like a little girl. Tell Bambi thanks by the way.
funny.
oh and i don't care about punctuation i only cap peoples names.
I spoke with Christina, Tyler's mom, last night and she asked me to make a post that we need to keep Tyler in our prayers and thoughts. He has had to go back into the hospital as the doctors need to remove fluid from his lungs. The process of how they do that can be difficult and while the family was looking forward to some time away from the hospital, they have to deal with this setback. Again, keep Tyler and his family in your prayers.
