O.W. Tanner Gardner 119.
Posted By: bigkneepads#2 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/06/03 02:50 AM
It will be a good match, but I predict Nathan Payne will beat Steinmetz like he did last year at state. Gardner is good, but the 171 bracket is just too stacked for him to get OW.
Posted By: wrestlin4life Re: finals a bobcat - 01/06/03 04:18 AM
130 Matt Middletin(Bonner Springs)and Tim Morgan (Basehor-Linwood)they r both very tough wrestlers.
Posted By: Westfahl Re: finals a bobcat - 01/06/03 01:13 PM
I understand Kirk Artest's little brother is (in some people's opinion) better than his brothers as a freshman. If that is true it is a little frightening because his brothers were great. I don't know what weight he is at. Maybe somewhere around 140. If he is anywhere close to that good he is going to be a handful for anyone in any tourney.
Posted By: Westfahl Re: finals a bobcat - 01/06/03 01:32 PM
Artest is from Glenwood, Iowa.
Posted By: KAS Re: finals a bobcat - 01/07/03 12:31 AM
I disagree with 135 and 140, Kalen Oswald will win 135(ACCHS) and Ryan Weber will win 140 (ACCHS)
Posted By: tbears189 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/07/03 03:35 PM
Wrestlin4life... Matt Middleton (Bonner Spring) won't win 130 at least in my opinion, becuase last year he lost to Caleb Hulse 2 of the 3 times that they met. As for Morgan (Bashor-Linwood), I don't remember seeing him wrestle last year, and but based on the season hulse has had so far, he should win out there as well.
Posted By: Baldwin Re: finals a bobcat - 01/08/03 07:34 PM
What about Kyle Flory from Baldwin at 171. I agree that this is the toughest weight class at this tournament. It should be fun and exciting to watch.
Posted By: RCW Re: finals a bobcat - 01/08/03 09:58 PM
Oh yeah Flory is one of the main reasons that class looks so tough. He will be a major player there if not the major player.
Posted By: havid deidrick Re: finals a bobcat - 01/09/03 07:40 AM
flory, payne, and steinmetz, what a dogfight that will be at 171.
Posted By: RCW Re: finals a bobcat - 01/09/03 03:07 PM
You are leaving out the kid from Columbus who was a state champion last year and Kromer of Garden City is a stud and also a state champion.
Posted By: StallingSob4 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/11/03 10:44 PM
103- Ross DeVoe (Columbus)
112- Dusty Briggs (Garden City)
119- Tanner Gardner (Shawnee Heights)
125- Marcus Bowman (Columbus)
130- Caleb Hulse (Turner)
135- Josh Flamez (Turner)
140- Nathan Allison (Ft. Scott)
145- Travis Eden (Santa Fe Trail)
152- Drew Ibarra (St. Thomas Aquinas)
160- Phil Hart (Shawnee Heights)
171- Mike Steinmetz (Turner)
189- adam monks( blue valley)unless glenwood has somebody he'll take it easy.
215- Phillip Lyons (Effingham)
275- Adam Venegas (Olathe North)
Posted By: wrestler one Re: finals a bobcat - 01/12/03 12:44 AM
125 - Brad Gregory - Glenwood
130 - Kevin Townsend - Glenwood

Both should be the tops seeds.
Posted By: moma'sboy Re: finals a bobcat - 01/13/03 04:50 AM
I can't wait til this weekend. I'm just a fan but having trouble deciding on which tournament to go to. Newton or Bobcat Classic. Is anyone there that will give Tanner Gardner a run. I've seen him wrestle in the summer and he is very good. Also, I would have to pick Kromer at 171 and someone besides Eden at 145 and the Glenwood kid at 130.
Posted By: KansasStyle Re: finals a bobcat - 01/14/03 12:01 AM
All of you that have made predictions probably should change the 189 and 215 spots. Reason bein, Phil Lyons is wrestling 189 for the rest of the season. Just thought I'd bring that to your attention and was wondering who everyone thinks would be the next up at 215 and if Lyons could still win at 189. Can't wait till this weekend, it oughta be good!
Posted By: Dan Monks Re: finals a bobcat - 01/14/03 01:47 AM
mvfan - Yes, Monks did lose in the finals of the Johnson County Classic. But I suppose you already knew that since he lost to Pingleton of your school, Mill Valley. I assume you just wanted to boast for your wrestler. You should talk him up. Eric is tough and has a chance to unseat a 2-time state champion this year. Regardless, what does that have to do with who may win the Bobcat? Mill Valley and Pingleton will NOT be there (you should know that). By the way, the contraction of "did not" is not "did'nt", it is spelled "didn't".

KansasStyle - Phil Lyons will definitely be a force to deal with at the Bobcat and all the way through the state tournament whether he is at 189 or 215. Could he win it this weekend? Definitely could. Will he win in??? As you said, can't wait till this weekend... Should be a great tourney.
Posted By: LancerM Re: finals a bobcat - 01/14/03 02:25 AM
Hey, congradulations to Adam for winning it, I heard he did awesome. And MVfan, you really don't need to talk up Pingleton, he's doing everything he needs to on the mat.
Posted By: wees189 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/14/03 04:48 PM
I really don't see anyone upseeding anyone at 189 this year in 4A. Pingleton got beat around like a punk last year at regionals by this 2 time state champ. I recall the score being 13-0. So until he starts to earn enough respect to be put in the same catagory as a 2 time state champion, not to mention the fact that he didn't even place at state last season and he was probably on JV when the 2 time state champ won his first title, maybe you should put him in the catagory of kids that should have placed in high school.
Posted By: mvfan Re: finals a bobcat - 01/14/03 07:43 PM
Yikes again! And where were you at 4A 189 State.. ? Why the need for personal attacks? There were 3 state placers out of the MV regionals @ 189.... 4a 189 is tuff. Pingleton has improved, however, he nor I have implied anything except that he won the The Jo CO Classic and it should be noted. THAT's IT.
Posted By: mvfan Re: finals a bobcat - 01/14/03 10:45 PM
Dan,
I would first like to apologize for any innuendo’s
that would suggest that Adam is anything short of
a humble, high caliber wrestler that is a model
competitor and sportsman. I would wish him the
best for the remainder of this season as well as the rest of his wrestling career. To answer your question as to the relevance of the comments to the Bobcat Classic, there is no relevance. The original comment was in response to a comment about Adam being unbeatable which was actually a comment referring to Adam Venegas not Adam Monks. Regardless of any misunderstandings the comment was inappropriate and was deleted.
Posted By: matparent Re: finals a bobcat - 01/15/03 12:54 AM
I think anyone is beatable....but Adam Venegas is a smart wrestler and I think only he will beat himself. I have watched him for 3 years now and my son has been coached by him and I have only the highest regards for that young man. It will take a mistake on his part if he gets beat.
Posted By: wrstln85 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/15/03 03:49 AM
who does everyone think the finals matches will be at 112 an 119...? An who will win?
Posted By: tbears189 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/16/03 01:07 PM
I think Tanner Gardner is goin to blow away the 119 division. No one has even come close to matching his ability.
Posted By: KAS Re: finals a bobcat - 01/16/03 02:53 PM
Is Marcus Bowman wrestling 125 or 130? because someone has him picked to win the bobcat classic, but he's ranked 2nd at 130.
Posted By: wrstln85 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/16/03 03:22 PM
I think that cody bell will win it at 112
Posted By: Phi Gam Re: finals a bobcat - 01/16/03 03:30 PM
Glenwood has three ranked wrestlers (Iowa 2A)

125 - #2 Brad Gregory (Sr)
130 - #5 Kevin Townsend (Sr)
140 - #5 Mitch Artist (Fr)

The team is unranked.

Bowman is at 130 for the Bobcat Classic. He will join the following ranked wrestlers in that weight class: Cody Sprang ACCHS, Tim Morgan BLHS, Matt Middleton Bonner Springs, Joe Sullivan Garden City, Kevin Townsend Glennwood, Caleb Hulse Turner.
Posted By: BigPin22 Re: finals a bobcat - 01/17/03 03:24 AM
Where is Middleton ranked? And I don't think that Bowman will have any problems in that group unless the Iowa kid can beat him!
