If you had to choose one of these wrestlers, who would it be and why?
GERARD SPEER, MATT WEISHAAR, JOSH LATTIMER,
NOAH CLOUSE, LUKE PAGE, T.J. STAAB, JOSH CARROLL,
ZACH HEMMERLING, IAN BORK, TAD GREER, ANDY POTTS,
JORDAN BEDORE, BLAKE SEILER

Noah Clouse

I would pick Andy Potts. I wrestled on his team for two years, and saw his work ethic, and drive to win. Trust me there is no one more dedicated than him.
Posted By: wrestlingfan171 Re: who would you pick? - 03/05/02 02:53 PM
Noah Clouse with out a doubt. He was just unbelivible to watch he was just so fast on his feet. Matt Weisar is also up there with him. Ian Bork is also a decent wrestler.
Posted By: 321a Wrestler Re: who would you pick? - 03/05/02 03:39 PM
Last year the answer would of been Speer from Scott City he defeated Staab and Latimer. This year the two best are Staab and Hemerling. But I would give the edge to Staab. His strong point was being on his feet and it showed all through the state tournament.
Posted By: Jumbo Sport Re: who would you pick? - 03/05/02 04:15 PM
Why does everyone keep forgetting about Seiler. Beating Hemmerling at Newton was not a fluke. I talked with the Hutch coach after state who told me that even Hemmerling was impressed with Seiler calling him the best in state. That might have been him blowing smoke, but I doubt it. His match with Latimer in the finals at state was only decided by two points. You got to give Seiler credit since that was only his third year wrestling. Runner up at state with only 3 years experience and state champ with 4 years has to speak to his work ethic and determination. I cannot speak to the work ethics of the other wrestlers, but from the ones that I have been in the practice room with, there have been VERY few work harder and have the drive to better themselves than Blake. You also have to remember that Seiler won state this year with a cast on his leg, watching him wrestle without the cast looked like watching a 145 pounder move on his feet.

Without a doubt speer he beat weishaar, staab, and could beat all of those guys.
Posted By: Kanji Re: who would you pick? - 03/06/02 12:47 AM
Ian Bork
I have seen his work ethic up close, I have seen it progress since we were both 8 and 10 years old, he has what it takes to win, he is a great wrestler and i will watch his career with great interest...
good luck Brother

I would like to add 2 more names to that list, kyle kennedy from ark city and dominic roberson from newton, if I can remember correctly those 2 dominated the avl last year.
Posted By: seth Re: who would you pick? - 03/06/02 03:20 AM
Sieler
Posted By: ssss Re: who would you pick? - 03/06/02 05:19 PM
out of that list I think the top 10 are:
1.lattimer
2.speer
3.staab
4.selier
5.clouse
6.ubben
7.roberson/kennedy tie
8.hemmerling
9.weishaar
10.luke page

That's a pretty good list, but how's about some of the other 215 pounders out there: Damon Parker (2x state champ from Manhattan), Wes Walker (2x state champ from Ulysses, NAIA national champ), and Alex Haines (state champ from Colby, junior all-American)?

But, then again, those are some good old boys from my day...
Posted By: Lyle Geyer Re: who would you pick? - 03/06/02 09:43 PM
Speer Scott City
Posted By: grassroot Re: who would you pick? - 03/06/02 10:15 PM
Without a doubt, Seiler!
Posted By: ssss Re: who would you pick? - 03/06/02 11:39 PM
Its toss up between speer and lattimer, when lattimer was healthy he ran through 215 he even beat the psycho philip walker.
Posted By: Wrestler4Ever Re: who would you pick? - 03/07/02 12:15 AM
Don't be stupid, Speer cannot be touched. He could kill anyone of them and he showed that at state last year. Not even lattimer would have matched him
Posted By: jmadden Re: who would you pick? - 03/07/02 01:50 AM
I would take Noah Clouse wrestling at his own weight. Remember he wrestled up for his team last year. At 215 I would take Hemmerling for two reasons he is just a junior and second he has the dedication and work ethic fitting for a coaches son. I think he will exceed the rest in a year if he stays 215.
Posted By: nhsgrad215 Re: who would you pick? - 03/07/02 04:42 AM
I think out of the 215 pounders in th past 2 years lattimer and speer still stand at the top, even though seiler and hemmerling were bad asses this year they still can't match those 2, I have wrestled both lattimer and selier and I can assure you that lattimer is better, I would have loved to wrestle speer, hemmerling, and caroll just to see how I match up with them but that never happened.
Posted By: Westfahl Re: who would you pick? - 03/09/02 05:15 AM
You guys forget about Charles Chaney of Wyandotte. He beat Parker of Manhattan 14-5 in the east west match one the state with a 55 second fall, malled everyone he wrestled his senior year. I don't think I have seen a better 215 pounder in my life than he was. It was hard to see him wrestle at state he only wrestled about seven minutes in the tourney his senior year. I coached him and coached against most of the kids you are talking about and he was a man compared to most of those kids. The only 215 I ever saw who had the whole low single leg package at his disposal. He wrestled like a 145 pounder in a big mans body.
Posted By: nhsgrad215 Re: who would you pick? - 03/11/02 01:07 PM
philip walker was another good one...I was suprised when lattimer beat him in the finals
Posted By: smokinjoe Re: who would you pick? - 03/11/02 01:33 PM
Another name that you have left off the list is Bancroft, he was a two-timer and if you recall beat Page in the finals last year.
Posted By: BadBoyWrstlr21 Re: who would you pick? - 03/15/02 02:10 PM
I don't know why everybody brings up Blake Sieler's name he is terrible.
Posted By: ssss Re: who would you pick? - 03/15/02 05:53 PM
first of all crow seiler is way better than hemmerling becuase he beat zach bad at the newton tourney, plus whoever said hemmerling is the best becuase he is a junior is crazy because lattimer as a junior would kill anyone on that list.
Posted By: kansas wrestling Re: who would you pick? - 03/15/02 05:57 PM
Speer.
Posted By: PanFluteMaster Re: who would you pick? - 03/19/02 07:53 PM
Crow, how can you say an undefeated state champion is terrible? The only points scored on Seiler the entire year were escapes. He was never turned, taken down, or reversed. In my book that makes you a little better than terrible.
Posted By: Jumbo Sport Re: who would you pick? - 03/19/02 09:11 PM
You forget Crow, the last time you saw Seiler wrestle was his sophmore year. He qualified for state after only wrestling for two years, that has to say something for his ability. I don't think that you are really in a position to call anyone a terrible wrestler. I think his record, his stats, and his state championship speak to his ability and I would think that everyone on here would have to agree that he is a far cry from terrible. After wrestling two years at Labette County you think you can take him? I doubt it. You were good, but not that good.
Posted By: cardinals141 Re: who would you pick? - 03/20/02 05:47 AM
i would have to agree with JCrow......Seiler is terrible. I watched Jalon Crowley pin him in 40 sec. at regionals once!
Posted By: BadBoyWrstlr21 Re: who would you pick? - 03/20/02 06:20 AM
jumbo sport> I can guarantee you that I would beat Blake by at least a major decision. The only reason that everybody thinks that he is such a stud is because he only wrestled people that were below average wrestlers. In my opinion high school wrestling has gone way done in the past two years. In every class, not just 5a.And by the way, if you ever want to see him get whipped have him wrestle somebody decent.
Posted By: Westfahl Re: who would you pick? - 03/21/02 01:33 AM
By the way, I coached that match that Lattimer beat Phillip (that is his first name, not Psycho) Walker and he beat him with a pulled finger call in the third period. That aint exactly running through the weight. Lattimer was a good one but there are a bunch of those.
Posted By: seth Re: who would you pick? - 03/21/02 03:37 AM
how can you say that sieler has not wrestled anyone descent? He wrestled Hemmerling who destroyed Ian Bork. And Ian Bork is a freestyle all-american.
Posted By: stiknmove Re: who would you pick? - 03/21/02 04:40 PM
Well of course high school wrestling has gone down since you left crow, how can high school wrestling be the same without you? Everyone knows to be somebody in high school wrestling you have to beat an Ark City kid. Until you can do that, you are the worst thing that stepped foot on a mat.
Posted By: holla Re: who would you pick? - 03/21/02 07:38 PM
Jumbo sport that is ridiculous to even think that Seiler would even come close to beating Jalon, even with the weight advantage you're talikng about a whole other level completely. Jalon is a two time national qualifier. It wouldn't even be worth my time to watch. By the way I think Speer would be my choice from this list. With Lattimer a very close second. I would have loved to see an in shape Lattimer wrestle Speer. Those two are definitely a step above the rest.

Cody Carrillo
Posted By: ssss Re: who would you pick? - 03/26/02 05:26 AM
Jalon you are soundin real cocky on here, I've seen you wrestle plenty of times and you were really nothin special to me, you did lose to lattimer and threw a hissy fit when you lost which got you disqualified from state remember? and whoever said lattimer is a close second to speer is crazy, I think as a junior lattimer would beat speer at least 6-1 maybe worse I also thing philip "the psycho" walker would have beat speer.
Posted By: PanFluteMaster Re: who would you pick? - 03/26/02 09:00 PM
It makes more sense to me that wrestling as a whole has fallen this far in the past two years then for Blake Seiler to improve as an individual wrestler. Oh wait, no it doesn't. If Seiler was pinned in 40 seconds at regionals it would have been his freshmen or sophmore year which were his first and second years of wrestling. I think anyone who starts wrestling his freshmen year and develops to the point where he can dominate 215 like he did this year is impressive to me. Yes, I said dominate. Crowley, how is D-1 wrestling going for you this year? Who are you wrestling for anyways? Seiler has had several D-1 offers for both football and wrestling. I guess D-1 wrestling has gone downhill in the past two years too. Lord that's pretty
Posted By: nhsgrad215 Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 01:57 AM
I have been reading some of these things about 215 and alot of the same people are talkin about tad greer from eldorado, I don't know why becuase that kid is horrible I wrestled him when I was a senior and killed him if I remember correctly he was killed by everyone in the leauge. Plus I have been seeing alot of posts from jalon crowley who is one of the best 189 pounders I have seen, I would love to see a match between him and seiler I think it would be a good one.
Posted By: swwrestler Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 02:36 AM
speer easily and yes he did beat lattimer in the east/west tourny last year the score was 4-1 or something bust speer was in control the whole time
Posted By: ssss Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 03:15 AM
I watched the match between speer and lattimer and speer was not in control the whole way, he only got ahead because lattimer went for a shot and slipped which gave speer a take down and back points, the lattimer got a throw which was called out of bounds by the ref but it should have at least been 2 points, and after that point speer was in trouble several other times where he controlled by fleeing the mat.
Posted By: Les Brown Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 12:22 PM
.....and was it too cold? or too hot? or too windy? or too calm? Regardless of the excuses, who won the only head-to-head match - Speer or Lattimer? Speer did, so I think he would have to get the nod here.
Posted By: stiknmove Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 03:29 PM
Jalon Crowley "who is one of the best 189 pounders I have seen," you've got to be kidding. Nothing against Crowley, he did finish runner up his junior year and champ his senior year, but one of the best-not a chance. He was far from terrible, but even farther from the best. You want to talk about someone who benefitted from a weak weight his senior year, Crowley is the one that takes that prize!!
Posted By: Jumbo Sport Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 03:39 PM
In case anyone was wondering, Crowley and Seiler never wrestled in regionals two years ago (Crowley's senior and Blake's sophmore years). They were on opposite sides of the bracket. Seiler was beat by a kid from Valley Center. He was never pinned in 40 seconds at any regional. He lost a close match with the Valley kid and finished third, then won his last two. Just thought I'd straighten that out for those keeping score.
Posted By: ssss Re: who would you pick? - 03/27/02 05:19 PM
I would chose a healthy lattimer over any wrestler in 189 or 215 that you named on the list even over speer and dyer, because when he was healthy he wasn't tested by any wrestler except against philip walker who is another great wrestler who would have won state over josh caroll that year if they didn't move down to 5a.

the top 215 wrestlers on that list are

1.Lattimer
2.Speer
3.Walker

they were all 3 great and dominant wrestlers
Posted By: BadBoyWrstlr21 Re: who would you pick? - 03/28/02 03:26 PM
Stiknmove> You are the one that seems to be talking all the nonsense b.s. Did I ever say anywhere in here that I was one of the best 189lbs ever. No, your the one that is turning everything that I say around in order to make me look like a cocky person. So it would be nice if you would quit talking crap on me. By the way, who did you even wrestle for in high school?
Posted By: stiknmove Re: who would you pick? - 03/28/02 04:57 PM
Crowley, if you noticed, the last post I had which made referrence to the "one of the best" comments was not directed at you. I was commenting on nhsgrad215's post. I actually gave you credit and did not want to take anything away from you, except for that weak weight comment, which it was, but you were the one that came out on top, so congrats. Your posts did come off arrogant and I'm not the only one that has noticed that. I'm not talking crap on you, I just don't think that you were as good as what you or others have made yourself out to be. I'm sorry if you disagree with that, but that's life.
Posted By: BadBoyWrstlr21 Re: who would you pick? - 03/28/02 05:00 PM
hey nhsgrad215, thanks for the compliment. Did you go to Newton High School? What year did you graduate?
Posted By: BadBoyWrstlr21 Re: who would you pick? - 03/28/02 05:07 PM
Stiknmove> Alright, my fault then. But this topic isn't the only one that you have said something about me in. But anyways since you know my name and I am not afraid to say anything, why don't you tell me who you are, instead of posting all the comments w/o letting me know who you are. And by the way, I think that you think pretty highly of yourself as well.
Posted By: stiknmove Re: who would you pick? - 03/28/02 06:24 PM
I don't think highly of myself, you must be mistaken. I have never once posted anything on here that makes reference to how good I am as a wrestler. I don't intend to either. I'm just a casual observer who doesn't mind speaking up about things I don't agree with. I don't mean to belittle you, you have just made some comments that I didn't agree with and I spoke up against them is all. Sorry for all of the grief that I may have caused you and I apologize for any hardship that you have suffered because of me.
Posted By: nhsgrad215 Re: who would you pick? - 03/29/02 12:22 AM
Yeah I went to newton and graduated in 2001, never got to wrestle you though.
Posted By: PanFluteMaster Re: who would you pick? - 04/09/02 12:14 AM
Earlier in this post JCrow said that 215 was down this year. Three All-Americans prove that Kansas had one of the hardest 215 pound weight divisions in the country. Congratulations to T.J., Blake, and Josh on their excellent performance in Ohio. Lets give credit where credit is deserved.
Posted By: someone Re: who would you pick? - 04/30/02 05:32 PM
Noah Clouse with no question
Posted By: old145 Re: who would you pick? - 05/02/02 01:10 PM
Lattimer, if healthy, would of been the man to beat. If a young man with two broken hands can win state and fight through the pain, I would say that he is on top of anybody's list.
Posted By: Westfahl Re: who would you pick? - 05/02/02 01:19 PM
Chaney was better than everyone on this list. Anyone who saw the state finals his senior year or the East West match against Parker will never forget him, not to mention his second period fall against Bozarth of Missouri an undefeated three time state champion in the kansas-missouri match, Bozarth was at the time the second ranked 215 in the nation. I would put Chaney on the mat with anyone I have ever seen in this state at 215 and sit back and not have to coach a bit.
