Please post any ideas on who are going from Kansas. Thanks
I would think with the dual only 8 days away the team would be selected quickly
I expect that the Kansas administration is putting together a worthy lineup as we speak.
I think it should be...
112 - Cody Bell
119 - Tim Munyan
125 - Chino Elsrode
130 - Caleb Hulse
135 - Matt Middleton
140 - Cody Sprang
145 - Mark Schieber
152 - Alvin Metcalf
160 - Connor Fitzgerald
160 - Dane Hammet
171 - Nathan Payne
171 - Mike Stienmetz
189 - David Ehret
215 - Mark Robinson
275 - Raymond Carrera
Metcalf is wrestling at 145. They are giving 7 lbs, so he will be at 152.
Conor should get 160 without question. He is the most respectful kid that I know, not to mention he is an awesome wrestler!
Can someone please post where each of those guys are from and how they did at state this year? Thanks.
Bell-Basehoor Linwood-I don't know
Munyan-St. Thomas Aquinas-Second place
Elsrode-Olathe South-Took third last year in a stacked bracket but got beat out by Briggs this year so he didn't place. However he was very deserving of it and if wrestled again would place very high.
Hulse-KC Turner-I think he took second twice but I'm not sure.
Middleton-Bonner Springs-First Place
Sprang-I have no idea who he is.
Shieber-Olathe East-Second Place
Metcalf-Fort Scott-First Place
Fitzgerald-Olathe South-Second Place
Payne-Paola-Three time state champ
Steinmetz-KC Turner-I think he won it his freshman year and was then a three time runner-up to Payne. However, if you're reading this Mike then I want to tell you how much I respect you for not running from Payne. That's badass.
Ehret-Topeka Washburn Rural-First Place
Robinson(Me)-Shawnee Mission East-Fifth Place-I lost to two guys I'd already pinned earlier in the year. Disappointing but oh well, I just didn't have it that day. On the upside I beat Carrera, so ha Raymond! That championship at heavyweight should be mine!

(By the way this was a joke and not me being boastful, I just like to kid him about it.)
Carrera-Shawnee Mission North-First place
Looks like you'll have Derek Lampkin - big, extremely strong kid. Don't let him muscle you around, it looks like he tires in the 3rd.
Hopefully they'll select me to go, I would love it. I'm pretty big and extremely squishy so I think I could handle him.

In my only big matches against Missouri kids this year I beat Travis Drake of Lee Summit and lost to Zach Adrian of Jeff City. How does Lampkin stack up with them?
You are pretty squishy, however, you're are so very, very weak.
Only seniors can wrestle in the Metro Classic, and I belive you have at least one junior listed (Sprang) Non-fish.
Cody Bell placed 4th in 4A and wrestled 119... he beat Munyan 5-0 earlier in the season.
LancerM,
I know he pinned Drake at the Ray South Tournament, don't know if he wrested Adrian or not. Here's a little info on him: last year he dominated the class 2 and class 3 state champs (he is in class 1), and beat defending state champ in class 2 this year. He has gone undefeated the last 2 years, with his only loss in the last 3 years coming to Chase Verdoorn (who now wrestles for Michigan). He also has a big afro (white guy).
My mistake on Sprang. Willy Cochran could be in at 215 or 189, he had a pretty solid season.
I think he sounds nice.
Does anyone know how Cochran's ankle is? It looked like he hurt it pretty bad in the finals but I really wouldn't know.
What about Kyle Flory from Baldwin at 171? He won 4A last year, runner-up this year. AND he is 2-0 against Payne this season.
Ramond Carrera is wrestling 215
Do you have the rest of the line-up?
Does Emporia get to be in this cause Dane Adkins beat Schieber in the state finals, shouldnt he get a shot to wrestle at it?
SME 160 was the state champ maybe he should also get some consideration. Props to Adkins but I believe Schieber could beat him 8 out of 10 times if they wrestled.
Ryan Sonderegger, the SME 160 state champ, is only a junior.
Emporia is also too far away, exceeding the 100 mile limit.
Mark, I'm sorry to say it but Lampkin is a beast. I saw him at UNI camp this summer and the dude is an animal. Reminds me of Dyer only bigger, stronger, and maybe not as quick or technical.
Hm...well it sounds like I would pull off one hell of an upset then!

I'm always up for a challenge!
Plus, no offense to Carerra because he is one badass heavyweight, I think that I would be better than him at 215. I beat him head to head 2-1 and the only point he got was a stalling point while I was riding him out with 17 seconds left in the match. His moves and style just aren't suited as well for a weight class other than Heavyweight.
Converseley though, I couldn't wrestle heavyweight at all. Those fat guys would smash me so fast it's not even funny, so I have tons of respect for Raymond. But who knows, whoever they pick works for me, I'm just all about Kansas winning! Plus he did have a better record and he won state so he deserves whatever he gets.
I take it Carrera is a "light" heavyweight? The MO kid, Gunselman, is all of 275, and has signed a letter of intent to wrestle for Mizzou. Is there anyone else from KS who could fill in hwt who is bigger?
And yes, markshieber, Lampkin is bigger and stronger than Dyer (he's all of 215), but NO way as technical or quick. You don't see too many Dyer's come along. He's finally starting to turn the corner down at OU (w/ his pin over Pascoe of Nebraska).
Yes, he's very light, that's why he wrestled me in the first place. The kid who got second place though is from Blue Valley Northwest and weight 275. His name is Garrett Jones and he twice placed sixth before getting second this year.
Hey Fudge...giving out the Mo secrets heh. Looks to be an excellent dual next week. I believe we saw this Fitzgerald kid from Olathe South this year at our duals. He looked pretty quick if I'm remembering the right kid but he's the only one I know anything about. Good luck Kansas!
Mr Linhart,
What are you doing over here? I'm telling Jonathan. What I'm giving away certainly aren't secrets. Should be fun next week.
I would like to know why Studdie Redcorn(Shawnee Mission NW) is not wresting in the Metro at 125lbs. Studdie placed 4th at state this year and Chino didn't even place. -Coach Parks (T-High)
Probably because Chino placed third last year and beat Studie head to head 3 out of 4 times this year. It's all subjective, I mean, I beat Carerra in our only head to head match-up when he dropped down from heavyweight, but they still picked him over me. Sad yes but oh well, it should still be fun to watch.
no offense to Carerra but i saw him in state and i dont think hes that great and yes im a hwt.
If he isn't that great why did he place 1st?
How can you say that Jessen? Carrera is a heavyweight stud. The guy weighs 220 on a good day and he still won state at heavyweight over guys like you.
Still...I think I'm a better 215 pounder.
ABartels-
You're an idiot. Adkins beat Schieber pretty badly if you don't count that first period. Adkins would beat Schieber 9 out of 10 times. He is a state champ and an all around bad***.
I'm a better 215 pounder than all of you, now that I weigh almost 210. Is New York outside of the Metro area? I'd be inclined to say that I'm in an even MORE "Metro" area than anyone from KS or MO...where should I sign up?
No way. Schieber is such a better wrestler. Adkins jest wrestled really well at the end of the match and Schieber didn't. If Curran from LV would have been on the top side of the bracket he would have faced Schieber in the finals not Adkins.
lancerM
you need to stop talking about your carrera match.
Oh Uhlster, it's just that that was the pinnacle of my entire life. Without it I am nothing.
how did you know it was me
i thought i was being sly
if it was up to me, i would have carrera at 275 and robinson at 215. because if you look at carrera's matches, he always has a problem with the lighter type kids. and robinson had a pretty good senior year. it is just to bad ryan stewart got hurt this year, or there would have been an smn one two punch.
Dude!! What the hell!! How the hell did Dustin Cortinger get to wrestle in the metro classic when I beat him. I mean seriously I freaking beat him!! I was like, "Man I'm not too worried about it, I probly won't get to wrestle in the Metro, but that's okay, I will get to see sombody good wrestle there. BUT NO, sombody that I beat is wrestling there. AND he got beat out at State too. That just doesn't seem fair. How does that work?? Who picks them?? I would like to talk to them.
You can talk all the crap you want on Adkins but who is the state champ, yeah thats right DANE ADKINS.
We're not talking crap Kosko(is that you?), it's just that we think Shieber is the better wrestler. Not that it matters at all, Adkins had a better match that day and therefore he has the title. However, when they were both fresh it looked like Shieber was going to take it, he just ran into a few bumps along the way.
And exactly Hager, that's my thinking too. However, that's how it goes when you let a committee pick these things. Apparently three old guys that are well-versed in wrestling knowledge make the selections. I personally think that the reason they put Carrera at 215 is because they think Garrett Jones is deserving of going. That may be true, but it doesn't make the best possible team. Oh well though, nothing can change now and I wish Raymond and Jones both good luck.
And I would have worked Ryan whether he'd been hurt or not.
Who did Tyler McCormick wrestle last year in the Metro dual? Was it Watkins?
Well all im sayin look he should of never beat the guy from BNW, and he didnt wrestle me. look at it he only beat the kid from wichita south by 2 and the guy i wrestled for 3 and 4 by 1 and i pinned him in 22sec im not talkin crap or anything i just dont think he should be the one wrestling for the metro classic. And i do no he won state but it was by alot of luck for him to win it alot.
Yea and good luck jones and crarra.
Why dont we propose a best two out of three match of Schieber and Adkins. I think Schiber would win out.
Good Luck to Kyle Flory and Derek Lang of Baldwin who I have had the pleasure of coaching this past year. I also know Conor Fitzgerald through his brother. All three of these young men are good wrestlers and even better people. Wishing you all the luck you deserve!
Coach Steffens
i know you are not talking sh*t or anything like that, but you probably havn't seen carrera wreslte much this year. he is a good wrestler. he just doesn't pin anybody or score huge amounts of points on anybody because most of the people are 20 to 30 pounds more than him, if more in jones case. so what carrera has to do is grind it out and ware them down. and he is very succesful at doing that. he taught he could do it to robinson and he was wrong.
oh and lancerM, i beg to differ that you would take a healthy stew. you couldnt even take a healthy klink. haha

Yes, he beat Brett Watkins 4-0, I believe.
That is what i thought, Brett Watkins has been splitting time for Mizzou and may be wrestling in the Big 12. I was just wondering why Tyler redshirted and Brett didn't. I also find it hard to believe that Chris, Tyler's older brother cannot beat Watkins out for the spot!
From what I understand, Chris cannot make 133. Since Collum has been out (still not sure if he will wrestle at Big XII's - personal issues), Watkins has filled in, with Prater occasionally in there. Watkins and McCormick are pretty much even, and Coach Smith decided to pull Watkins redshirt - and he has taken some lumps. McCormick will still have 4 years after this, which is better for him - he has done well in his redshirt year. Hopefully he will go to the Redshirt Nationals.
The process of picking the team begins by mid January. The ones who do it work hard and I don't think they would give a hoot about any kid wanting to talk to them about it. I know they try to look at several things including getting representatives from all 4 classifications. 3A isn't represented this year because all of the
good 3A kids from the area are underclassmen. They look at who has established themselves, and much of it (not all) is done prior to state.
Dane Adkins doesnt have to wrestle anyone again he has the medal and the bracket in his house, does schieber. Some people get it done when it counts, so you should leave it alone cause its a battle that you guys cant win
i just dont think he should go to the METRO Classic, He should of nevr beat the jones guy, dang he thought i won already and i just wish i would of wrestled him but hey i got 2 more years so yea .
LancerM, you're not a good 215. I mean, you placed 5th in a bracket that I got 2nd in, and I'm terrible. So let us quit the trash talking here.
nwhwt275, it was not a fluk that carrera beat jones at state. jones has beat carrera twice and carrera has beat jones twice. but both of jones wins were in there first two meetings this year. and at the smn invintational, carrera totally dominated jones from start to finish. i think carrera is a well deserving canditate to go, he has beaten everybody at heavyweight that he has wrestled. and i would like to see anybody who has watched him all year say different. i know that does not mean much from a teammate.
yes, i would have to agree 215 was extremely weak this year, the main reason being that lancerM placed 5th. so robinson, does that mean klinkenborg could have placed at state this year
Hey now, I never said I was good. I just said I was a better 215 than Carrera. I promise that I'm really, really sucky. You guys are the ones assuming thing...
And Klinkenborg would have easily won state. He worked me...twice.
Due to an injury Kansas has made a change at the 189 lb. weight class for the Metro Classic. Willy Cochran of Gardner, injured a hamstring in the state tournament, has been advised by his doctor to give that injury more time. He will be replaced by Brad Page of Paola, Kansas (30-5). Brad was 5th in state this past year, losing to the champion at that weight class Tyler Gonzales 1-0 in the state tournament.
