sparks is 10th he didnt wrestle last year
How has Hambelton from labette lived up to the hype? no offense...jw?
he placed at least second in one tournament and has a decent record

How much hype can there actually be about someone who has never wrestled in high school?
Exactly what I was thinking Dingbat. I have to be careful how I reply so Phillips doesnt extract this topic.
Itsme, please see my response to your first post. I beg you. It's Christmas.
I'd say Jeff Peterson. Though he may not technically be a freshmen, his maturity makes me think of him as one. But that aside, Mitch Arnold from carrol isn't too shabby. I don't know what his record is, but from what i've seen, he looks like he's the real deal.

i would have to say JT from junction city hes has been whooping *** on the mat with a good reocrd good luck this year kid
Madison from Salina Central is fantastic...never seen a freshman heavyweight with so much poise.
Posted By: 321a_140 Re: Freshmen that have lived up to the hype - 12/17/04 02:36 PM
Madison gets my vote. I've seen him wrestle in kids and, by the way it sounds, he's doing pretty well so far.
Kevin Callahan from Baldwin won the Eudora Tournament, has looked pretty good.
arnold of carroll and grahmn of ark city looked good down in okl... both mechanically sound wrestlers
Cale Demel has looked good at recent tournaments.
Posted By: big_boy Re: Freshmen that have lived up to the hype - 01/20/05 06:00 PM
Kevin Callahan- 1st at Eudora
Tyler Koehn- 3rd at Derby
Pretty much did what i expected except i think that tyler should have place 1st or 2nd
Add to this Callahan only has three losses all to Missouri guys all three were state placers last year and all three matches could have went either way
I know this is about this year but in 2 years olathe north will have two outstanding 9th graders in Lucas Vincent and Jake Carroll at 215 and hwt

Nick Flynn has only 1 loss at 112 for Lansing and is 20-1 or so. He really looks good.

SlamBam
In 6A there are a total of four ranked freshman:

Jake Tanenbaum 112-2nd BVN
Philip Henes 112-5th STA
Steve Miller 119-6th MAN
Gabe Munoz 125-4th Wich.South

I would say these 4 have lived up to their hype or have exceeded it
Arnold of Carroll continues to show his strength by pinning his opponent in the Carroll vs South dual. This is the most outstanding wrestler I have seen in the GWAL in a long time. Being only a freshman he also won the Newton tournament by beating all Sr's in his weightclass. Congradulations Mitch.

MIke Church Sr.
Kepka, 103#s from Lyons isn't far behind all the good ones already stated. He's a freshman, has only lost one match, that being to a wrestler from Nebraska.
ryan patterson from garden plain is doing **** good undefeated so far and a **** good wrestler
ROMEO COTTON OF HUTCH IS ONE OF THE BEST FRESHMAN IN THE STATE THIS YEAR. HE HAD ONE OF THE HARDEST BRAKETS AT BLUE VALLEY NORTHWEST AND WON.
Posted By: Nanook Re: Freshmen that have lived up to the hype - 01/23/05 02:40 PM
a freshman that alot of people are not talking about are tyler koehn he has only had 3 losses under his belt wich makes him 20-3 a pretty outstanding record and those 3 losses are only from derby a very tough tournament i expect to see tyler in the finals for regionals him and model will have one hell of a match i beleive tyler koehn could be a next state champion at 119 this year
There's a kid from Garden Plain, I can't remember what weight he wrestled, but he looked really tough at the Eureka tournament. If I remember correctly though he is still undefeated.

well said
i was looking at the bracket at 145 and this ROMEO CROTTON is a freshman and he dominated Chaz Hill by the look of the score and he is no chump, so he muct be pretty darn good

and Jake Tannenbaum has defenitely lived up to hype if he ever had any, but he sure has recognition now

No worries. That's just funny, given Romero's character.
Kelly Younkin has lived up to the hype this year too
Not taking anything away from the smaller freshman, but Atticus Disney from Andover is competing at 215 and he is kickin some butt.Keep doin what ur doin big dawg.
Posted By: Dingbat Re: Freshmen that have lived up to the hype - 01/24/05 06:04 PM
The bigger weights are much tougher to compete in for younger guys--most 215/heavyweight wrestlers are usually more developed upper classmen.

Lansing freshman Nick Flynn is 22-3 at 112 this year.

I thought Romeo lost to Chaz Hill (9-0) in the finals
No Romero won. (he beat Hill 9-0)
