I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but
Funeral services for Matthew Justin "Matt" Skaggs, 24, of Milford and formerly of Council Grove and Emporia, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Council Grove. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Council Grove.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Chapel of the Flint Hills. Family and friends will greet visitors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Skaggs died July 14, 2002, from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident south of Junction City.
Skaggs was born May 20, 1978, at Henryetta, Okla., the son of Lemuel and Hazel Alston Skaggs. He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1997. In high school, he was a state qualifier in wrestling in 1996-1997 season at 215 and was crowned king of the 1997 winter homecoming.
He was married to Carmen Acosta at the White memorial Camp at Council Grove. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert and Quint Skaggs of Milford; his mother, Hazel Quinn of Council Grove; his sister, Misty Skaggs of Okemah, Okla.; two brothers, Michael McVeigh of Fort Stewart, Ga., and Mark McVeigh of Council Grove; his mother-in-law, Sandra Browning of Richmond, Va.; a sister-in-law, Crystal Acosta of Richmond, Va.; three nephews; and a niece.
