Tonight at the Manhattan, Hays, Junction City triangular Mayor Ed Klimek will proclaim it Lee Woodford Day in Manhattan Ks.

PROCLAMATION


WHEREAS,
C. Lee Woodford was inducted to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Sunday, November 6, 2005, for his 31 years of service to the sport of wrestling:

And,

WHEREAS,
Mr. Woodford began his career at Manhattan High School in 1986 after coaching for seven years at Goodland High School and five years at Chase High School. He led MHS to 14 I-70 League Championships and four runner-up finishes. In
2005, the MHS Indians first season in the Centennial League, Mr. Woodford led Manhattan to another league championship. He led MHS to nine 6A Regional Championship trophies and four second place plaques. In 2004, the Indians were the 6A State Wrestling Champions. The tribe also won three second place State trophies and five third place finishes:

And,

WHEREAS,
Mr. Woodford coached 9 wrestlers who earned All-American honors, including Scott Coleman, who was twice an All-American, and Kera Pemberton, who was four times a USAGWA All-American; and as a Coach, Mr. Woodford was named 6A coach of the Year in 1996, 2001 and 2004. He was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Kansas Coach of the Year; was the 2002 Kansas Wrestling Officials Association Sportsmanship Coach of the Year and was twice selected to coach in the Kansas Senior Classic;

And,

WHEREAS,
Mr. Woodford is a teacher, who teaches United States government and history at Manhattan High School; graduated from Sterling College in 1973, and received the 2004 Nominee for Master Teacher of the Year for Manhattan, 2002 Kansas Teacher of the Year for Manhattan, 2001 Master Teacher of the Year, 2004 Commencement Speaker, and 1985 Goodland, Kansas Outstanding Educator.

NOW, THEREFORE,

I, Ed Klimek, Mayor of the City of Manhattan, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Tuesday December 13, 2005, as C. LEE WOODFORD DAY in Manhattan, Kansas.

Sure wish I could be there to congratulate Lee and wish him the best. I learned a lot from Lee during my time in Manhappy. Would be fun to bend an elbow with Ed again as well.

I heard they're changing the whole school name to Lee Woodford High School.
