"In the heavyweight match, Apprentice School’s Daryl Stackhouse scored a two-point takedown early in the first period and Kansas State’s David Karnowski tied the score with an escape early in the third period. With the riding time advantage, Karnowski took the 3-2 decision."
Karnowski becomes the 3rd kansas wrestler on the university scene that i know of to win a national title this year Biddle did it in NAIA and Silvis won his 2nd at D2...don't think we had a D3 guy, but surely a Junior College guy emerged with a crown...now all we need is a good old D1 guy...but that may be easier said then done!
Aaron,
Roberson and Maynes have the best shot at a championship. Here is a breakdown of the Kansas wrestler's seeds:
Maynes #6
Roberson #5
Bunch #9
Johnston #8
Klein #11
Carroll #NR
Coleman #NR
Is there a site where the brackets are posted for the NCAA DI championship?
You can find brackets and other information at
http://www.nwcaadmin.bluestep.net/my/shared/home.jsp .
You will also find this link on the Kansas Wrestling homepage (
http://www.usawks.com ).
The direct link to the brackets only (in PDF format) is
http://www.ncaasports.com/images/ncaasports/arc_image/2003_d1_wres_brackets.pdf .
If I am not mistaken, I believe we did have a juco national champion from Kansas. Aaron Meister (Holton HS and Labette CC) won the national title at I think 174 pounds this year.
We have been well represented with KS kids in the collegiate ranks.
