Steve Kern became a National Champion on Saturday, defeating Steve Gerrard of Colorado State in the finals. After pinning four wrestlers to get to the finals, Kern beat Gerrard by decision, 2-0. Kern also became a four-time NCWA All-American, making him only the 14th wrestler to accomplish this feat. Kansas State placed 13th as a team, just below last years finish of 11th. After receiving NCWA Coach of the Year honors, Coach Tillman said, “We have come a long way this year, both as a team and individually. We are very proud of what we accomplished this season.”
