I am pretty excited about this season. I think we have a shot to surprise a few at the end of the year. Go Pokes!
Posted By: RichardDSalyer Re: Neil Erisman - 11/14/08 04:04 AM
From my notes:

157 lbs. Newly McSpadden (Black) dec. Neil Erisman (Orange); 4-3

Neil scored first match points with an escape five seconds into second period. McSpadden scores a takedown at approximately 1 minute in the second period to take the lead 2-1. Neil escapes to tie the score at 2-2. End of second period tied.

Third period McSpadden chooses down and immediately scores a reversal to go up 4-2. Erisman escapes approximately 20 seconds later to narrow the lead to 4-3 but with 1:35 remaining in the match Neil can not score the winning takedown.

Thanks Richard. Tough loss for Neil. That Blanc kid is for real! That Silver/Fuentes match must have been fun to watch.

I am suprised with Ashmore beating Parks. Richard what did you think of the match?

Also, Obensen Blanc....is he the real deal? I think he will be an explosive 125lber. We have needed that for a while at that weight.

Ashmore and Parks have gone back and forth in the past (wrestled several times during their high school careers) with Ashmore being more of a control wrestler and Parks relying on explosive quickness much like Shawn Bunch. Parks scored a takedown with ten seconds left in the match to send it to overtime. Parks second injury timeout gave choice in the overtime period to Ashmore who gained the escape to secure the victory.

Blanc is a former NCAA Division I All-American from Lock Haven, which is located in talent rich Pennsylvania. Blanc placed sixth in the 2007 NCAA Tournament and took last year off to train for the Olympics. Blanc has shown the ability to be very good on his feet.

I think it is safe to say he is the starter. When they dueled Minnesotta someone on the blog said that coach Smith was unhappy with McSpaddens lack of offense. I also heard that he was having trouble making that cut. The only loss I think Erisman has had since cracking the lineup is to former national champ and current #1 Gregor Gillespe (Edinboro)...and I think that was 3-1 or 3-0. Erisman is looking very solid!

Neil is a perfect example that hard work pays off. A high school stud who worked his way to varsity at one of the toughest schools in the nation. Now heading to the NCAA national championships.

Congrats to Neil and good luck.

The match was awesome, I was there. The big 12 was good and there were some wild matches. Burroughs is amazing! I liked to see Neil get another shot at Chandler, that dude is tough too. Neil is looking good. I expect a good performance in St. Louis.

Get'em Big Dog!
