PCC Wrestling falls to Labette County

2011/2012

Release Date:

Friday, November 18, 2011

The Pratt Community College Wrestling Team took their first loss of the season to the Labette Cardinals, the #5 ranked team in the nation, on Wed., Nov. 16 at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena by a score of 33-6.

"We did not look like ourselves; we did not show up at all,” said Ken Kepley, head coach. “It is a learning experience for the guys because they can potentially win the National Title this year and we were in every match but did not wrestle. We will get better and we will never forget this feeling. We will gain and get better every day, but we did not get better tonight. After tonight, I will promise you that no other team will work harder than us in the country because I did not like that feeling and neither did they. We are way better than that. Now that we have seen what the top team in the country has, we see what we need to work on."

The match started at weight class 157.

157 - Keegan Smith lost a hard fought battle that resulted in a 5-2 decision to Devin Aguirre who was ranked 12th in the nation.

165 - Sheldon Graves lost in the final seconds to a self-pinfall with three seconds left in the match to #6 ranked Ethan Orr.

174 - Landon "TUG" Keiswetter put points on the board for the Beavers by defeating defending All-American and #3 ranked Ray Hall of Labette with a score of 8-6.

184 - Taylor Barid lost to John Hambleton 5-2 who was ranked 12th in the nation.

197 - Dustin Hackett was pinned by Zach Anderson in 2:26 who was ranked 9th in the nation.

285 - Tim Tuaquoi picked up a win with a win over Trey Page by a score of 3-1.

125 - Zach Hoehn was pinned in 00:48 by #4 ranked Garrett Jones.

133 - Skyler McComb was defeated by Eric Hughes in a hard fought battle by a score of 12-7.

141 - Forrest Carroll was defeated by Deandrea Carter by a score of 5-4.

149 - John Lynch capped off the night and the final match with a loss to Tyler Davis with a score of 8-3.

This loss puts the Beavers at 2-1 on the season. The Beavers look to regroup this weekend, Nov. 19, at the University of Nebraska Kearney Loper Open where they will, again, see very intense and stiff competition against Division I and Division II schools.

I think he means the Cards have the National Title chances...that's kool-aide I can swallow.
