Team Kansas arrived in Carlsbad, NM about an hour ago and are already on the mats. The coaches are planning about an hour long work out to relieve a bit of bus rust gathered on the 12-hour drive.
Thankfully, we have a wi-fi connection at the school and I will be giving reports as we go along!
Right now about 35 wrestlers from Team Kansas are working out. If the quality of that workout is an indicator, I expect great wrestling over the next few days!
In Carlsbad, they currently are holding their State folkstyle and freestyle tournamets. Team Missouri, who have several competitors are also competing in the New Mexico State Games!
Several Kansas parents are here and a few even took the opportunity that was given to ride the bus with the team!
The Puerto Rico women's team is here ... and plan to wrestle.
I'm sure I will learn more names as we go along but a few I know that are present: Steve Andrus, Tyler Koehn, Gage Deere, C.J. Napier, 3 Rogers, 3 Hood boys, Ryne Cokeley, little Roberts from Hiawatha, Tanenbaum, Gentzler, Hensley, Caylor and a few more!
Team coaches include Scott Rieck, Joe Renfro, Tyler Gonzales, Ryan Phillips, Chaz Thompson, and Team Leader Bob Phillips!
At camp were also coaches Jordan Nichols, Mike Houck, FHSU Coach Bickley and a few others!
The workout is about over and we are headed back to the Motel! We plan to return at 3:30 Mountain time for weigh-ins!
So it was possible to wrestle in there state games and Southern Plains,I would of definetly went for all that mat time.
Best of luck to all the kids. Thanks Randy for the updates!
24/7
I will try to keep all aprised of the happenings of the weekend. It seems though, I might have a bit of an issue with connectivity!
I'm not sure what's going on with the connection! I won't see much action in the spot where I can get a WiFi! But I will adapt.
Everyone survived the night, which is good, and they seem ready to wrestle. We're probably an hour away from the first whistle.
Come on Randy! You haven't let us down yet. We don't just want results. We want Fargo type narratives.
Dang Barry ... I will be in the gym with the little guys so some of my reports will be just announcing results.
I will give a bit of narrative (Omaha style) for a few others!
... and on a side note, it was 107 in Carlsbad yesterday afternoon. However, it was somewhat pleasant as there was a gentle breeze and almost no humidity!
There are around 200 wrestlers in Greco and we are about ready to rumble!
In the Schoolboy division, Ryne Cokeley was victorious!
Cale Rogers had a 3-period bout but ended up a bit short is his bout!

Isaac Dulgarian was the last wrestler of the tourney for Team Kansas. Isaac lost the first period, 2-4. In the second, he was ahead 4-0 and the entire Kansas coaching staff was cheering him on. Suddenly, he got reversed, put on his back, and was the victim of the fall.
Isaac places 3rd in his first Southern Plains trip!
Overall, a pretty good weekend for Team Kansas! Carlsbad, NM is an awfully long ways from home and I will probably recall that on the 12-hour drive to Hays and another 4-hours home!
I apologize for not getting all the results but hopefully I did an adequate job! Nothing gives me more pleasure than reporting great accomplishments by a great group of Kansas youngsters! I know there may have been some spelling errors, etc. but hope those are forgiveable.
The bus is leaving directly and after a stop at one of my favorite restaurants of all times, Furr's, we will be headed toward the Sunshine State. I pray for safe travels and have fond memories of another wrestling event with Team Kansas!
