The final round of the other pools will wrestle at 9:00 this morning. They will make up the brackets after that, so I'm guessing we'll wrestle around 11:00 or so.
No Championship pools have been announced but it looks like these are the top 8 teams. They will be divided into two pools to determine the medal round duals.
Kansas
Illinois
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
Minnesota 2 - It's their best team.
Wisconsin
Michigan
Idaho
Gold bracket will have Kansas, Idaho, Pennsylvania 1, Wisconsin, Illinois, New Jersey, Minnesota 2, and Michigan 1.
They will divide them in to two 4 team pools. The winner of each pool will then wrestle for 1st, 2nds willl wrestle for 3rd, 3rds will wrestle for 5th, and 4ths will wrestle for 7th.
They are doing the brackets now. Should be posted shortly.
Here we go!
RED POOL:
Kansas
Minnesota 2
New Jersey
Wisconsin
BLUE POOL:
Illinois
Michigan
Pennsylvania
Idaho
We have Wisconsin first, then MN followed by NJ.
(I like the draw. We can beat WI and NJ if we bring our best!)
Wisconsin is up 1st for Team Kansas
Minnesota and New Jersey are the other teams in our pool
Looks like the buzzsaw's for WI are:
130 - 3-0
140 - 4-0
145 - 5-0
160 - 6-0
215 - 6-0

Down 4-2 in the clinch with :30 to go
Can't get him turned, drops the 3rd. Good match
25-22 Wisconsin

But spencer doesn't much care about looks with a 3 pt throw and the bonus 1
Wisconsin slips the headlock for 1 and a gut for 2. Spencer leads 4-3
Another headlock for 3 ends the period 10-3
See if the Wisconsin kid learned to dodge the head and arm in the 2nd
2nd period Spencer gives up the headlock and the fall.

Way too many falls we are giving up..........That one was tight. Spencer actually puthimself in an awkward position trying to get off his back, and cut his blood and air flow off. He fought hard

The ref stops the wisconsin kid from going over on the step over throw. The ref is, shall we say, pretty immobile.
Matt gets one for a pushout, and the 1-0 lead and the win
30-25 WI
Eric mason up at 189. You do the math, we can't lose any more
Doug does the ref stumble a bit when he walks in his elf looking shoes. If so he was horrible last week at School Boys.
0-0 to the clinch, eric on defense
Eric has good defense and wins the first
2nd period Eric can't get the pushout off the Russian........, then gets behind him, can't hook up the suplay, but gets a pushout point. Up 1-0 in the clinch.
Wins the 2nd period with a HUGE win for us, 30-28 Wisconsin,
Nathan Butler on the mat now at 215.
Nathan gives up the takedown, dowwn 1-0.
Just doing some math, worse we can do here is go 3-1 team point wise, as I believe Wisconsin has more wins that us
Down 2-0 in the clinch
We would still need a pin from Brown at HWT to win it, or if we go 3-0 this match, it would be tied and go to most matches won.....
It's 8-7 WI in matches. thru 189
Lose the 1st 2-0, minute to go in the 2nd
We are offnsense on the clinch but can't score, lose it. Down 33-28. Need a pin for the tie, but Wisconsin has 9 match wins, so we will not win this dual
Brownd puts hiim on his back for 2, but they go out of bounds. Wisconsin thros for 3, they are up 3-2
Wisconsin gest the pushout for the 1-0 lead
Brown ties it with a pushout
To the clinch tied at 1, but we scored last. Gave up a late pushout and lose the 2nd
36-29 final score
Man. The Wilson match was a 7 point swing. That and Johnson finishing was another 2. Great effort guys and thank you Doug!
I have to actually work for awhile, so keep your heads on against MN2 and rip NJ a new one!
A very stout Minnesota team is up next. This will be a learning experience for Team Kansas. See if they battle, or get beat down............
The kids have to think while they are out htere, givingup pins, not finishing a match, staying out of trouble when you are ahead, and scoring team points. Of course if you or I were wrestling, none of that would happen, right!!!!?????
This competition is brutal, and we have to stay tough mentally
Parker Howell has the MN kid on his back in a headlock for a good part of thee 1st period but can't getr the fall.
Wins it 4-0
and a takedown for MN makes it 1-1
gut for 2 for MN, 3-1 at the clinch
0-0 clinch, parker to defend
We are seeing that the elite teams are much better at scoring from the clinch. We get turned for the 3rd period loss
3-1 MN

8-1 MN
Cullen is down 5-0 and can't get into the guy, drops the 1st period
Javy loses the 1st 1-0, but wins the 2nd 6-0
Javy doesn't quit on the gut from the clinch, and gets it as time runs out, 2-0 and the match!!
12-4 MN
Hellacious gut defense from Austin Hood in the clinch gets him the 1st period win.!!!!
Gives up the 3 out of bounds in a scramble. Down 3-0 in the 2nd
Pushout point for MN 1-0 early 3rd
Catches him in a headlock for 3, but givesup the 2 pt rollthru afterward. Up 3-2, then gets gutted out and drops the period 10-3.
Dustin Reed drops the 1st 7-0, wiggles out of a tight double over in the 2nd, loses the 2nd 7-0 also
MN 23-6
ochs gives up the takedown, 1-0
gets higutted 3 times for the 7-0 loss in the 1st
We are seeing the real sttrong greco teams' ability to score on the mat, not just from their feet. And they are virtually impossible to turn when we are on top, as their defense is very good. We'll learn and move on........
Lose the 3rd by not turning on offense.
26-6 MN
Jonathan Blackwell up at 135. Jerud Johnson will sit out the rest of the day to rest a sore shoulder
GIves up a pushout pooint, but gets one back of his own. 1-1

Gives up the gut and the 7-0 period
41-8
gives up a pushout point 1-0
Can't get the leverage on the headlockon the taller MN kid, givesup the 3 going out of bounds. Loses the 1st 6-0, I looked down after it was 4-0, and they were awarding another 2. Missed it
Now we are getting our game faces on. Bench warning on Coach Charby!!
A 3 for Nick oging out of bounds.
A 3 for MN and 1, down 4-3
2 pint gut makes it 6-3, another 2 and 1 makes it 9-3
44-9 MN
See if Matt Reed can turn the tide............
Gives up the 3 point and 1. Down 4-0
sit tight though............
Gives up a takedown on a kid that is waiting on the head and arm, down 5-0.
I saw a pin for Reed, the refs did not. Down 6-3. MN guy is needing some time to shake off the arm tweak.

6th place finish for Team Kansas at Cadet Greco duals
Awesome! This team can wrestle.
Here comes my annual rant about not taking all of our studs. We had some ttough kids that bumped up to fill holes. It would have been nice to be able to let those kids wrestle their weights, and fill the 119 and 130 spots with kids that were true 119 and 130 lb kids. Kudos to Bryce Shoemaker, Dustin Reed, and Calvin Ochs for filling those holes. I believe Quinton Harrison and Connor Neal bumped up to wrestle as well. I'm not making excuses for any of these kids, and they wouldn't want me to, but you know how these big n ational events work. Other states cut, and if you don't, you are giving up big time size and strength.
I believe the Wisconsin dual was within our grasp, but got away.
Michigan was another one that we had a shot at. We took 6th, but I believe we could have done as well as 4th.
You guys that didn't come know who you are. If we want to move up from these 6th and 7th and 8th place finishes, we have to take ALL of our studs.
Tomorrow, other states will be showing up with fresh freestyle teams. We will be battling them with a sore and battered group of warriors, and once again, with little guys wrestling at 2 weights. Rest assured, our Cadets will be nails tough during Freestyle. We can only hope we stay healthy, as we only have backups at a few weights.
As a parent, you ship your kid off to these duals hoping they get a bunch of matches in, then it changes to "I wish we could get a break for some of these kids". 9 matches in greco, and we are only halfway home.
Congrats to the Cadets.
I will try to get another parent with a laptop to keep you posted after tomorrow afternoon's matches. I have to head back home around 3 or 4 pm for my daughters' ball tourney this weekend. Worst case, you'll have the Chief to post the trackwrestling results as they come in.
Kids, this is an experience that is grueling, but you can see it in our kids' eyes, that it is very rewarding to say that you survived it. Make it a goal ofyours to represent Team Kansas at the duals......
I don't think any state is able to get all their studs on the mat. Kids have so much going on in the summer, the cost of some of these teams and tournaments are outrageous, and it is very hard to get full teams half the time. Kansas has traditionally done a very good job and everyone wants the best team on the mat, but every kid that does go, is getting amazing matches and invaluable mat time.
It costs some of these families over a $1,000 to do Cadet/Junior Duals and Fargo. With the big Million dollar payouts college give for scholarships and the lucrative contracts that wrestlers receive, it is a hard thing for some families to do it. I love wrestling and I believe it is worth it, but I understand the situations with some of these kids. I don't think it is the kids that are choosing to not participate most of the time.
HERE WE GO! Freestyle pools are out. We got the #2 seed in pool D. The pool has 8 teams instead of 7, so we will have SEVEN duals in our pool.
Pool D:
New Jersey

California

Do we have a ETA on when the boys will arrive in Lawrence? My cadet's phone is dead.
My cadet texted and said that they should be at WILL'S Auto Exchange about 7:00 tonite..If that helps..And also wanted to thank everyone who made it possible for the Dual Team to compete..Coaches,Russ,Doug747, and the live remote web cast was great..I know our boys Battled their hearts out, but as doug mentioned we where a lil thin in some weights, and the crueling matches and number of matches and injuries wore on the boys..Hey but they didnt quit!! Evident in Jarin Browns last match with Minnesota when things got a lil fired up in the match.. Competitive Toughness I call it..Thanks again..
No doubt, Kansas took a tough group of kids to the Cadet duals.
Thanks to Coach Charboneau, Coach Travis, and Coach Jobe for leading them into battle.
There isn't a one of these kids that didn't come home a better wrestler......Maybe a bit sore, but better nonetheless.
Think about it folks. Most of these kids wrestle 30-40 matches in a HS season. A lot of these boys wrestled 15-17 matches in 4 days.........Brutal, but awesome.
