Kansas Wrestling
I have put together a three semester training cycle that I plan to run with the help of other featured clincians. This unique training regimine will kick off Thursday, April 14th and run approximately 6 weeks in length covering a minimum of 10 training sessions. Each training session will be about 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours in length.

The program will run as follows:

There will be three semesters of training throughout the Spring/Summer. Each semester will be approximately the same duration (6 weeks/10 sessions minimum). The sessions will run every Thursday night from 6:15-8pm and also select Sundays from 4:30-6:30pm. There may be some changes made to the schedule during certain weekends of competition such as MO USA Freestyle and Greco State (May 8th which is also Mother's Day). We may also pick up an additional training session or two during the semester.

All sessions will be at Park Hill High School and is open to all peewee, youth and high school wrestlers with at least one year of experience and who have a current USA Competitor's Card. The training groups will be limited in number so that each wrestler receives individual focus and attention. The groups may also be broken up by experience level and specific training goals (i.e. upcoming freestyle qualifiers for national teams). Once the practice room is at capacity we will offer a waiting list for the second training semester. I did something similar to this leading up to the high school and youth seasons last year which I believe helped set the tone for athletes to reach new heights during their competitive folkstyle season. The weight of the practices will be folkstyle based, however, I will be working with those athletes who are trying to make a freestyle and greco state dual team and also to prepare for national events.

What will be different about these training cycles compared to others? The staff will provide a cutting edge approach to mastering specific positions and muscle memory in all three phases of wrestling (Top, Bottom and Neutral). In essence, this is an ongoing training/technique camp with a emphasis on the mental aspect of the sport and learning to be able to wrestle continuously in all positions. We will be training the mind and body to work together as the wrestling unfolds.

What will also be different is that we will teach your wrestler why he/she is learning a certain technique so that they begin not only how to be able to perform the technique but also to understand and mentally process the move, counters and counters to counters while they are actually wrestling. Seldom are wrestlers provided with this opportunity to learn as they wrestle. Wrestling is not simply the ability to perform a series of moves but figuring out how to transition from one dominant position to another and how to counter your opponent's dominant positions while continuing to wrestle the entire time. A new approach to drilling, situational and live wrestling will heighten your wrestlers skills in these areas. I have been developing this approach and am excited to put it into action.

Here is the tentative schedule.

Thursday, April 14th 6:15-8pm
Sunday, April 17th 4:30-6:30pm

Thursday, April 21st 6:15-8pm
Sunday, April 24th 4:30-6:30pm

Thursday, April 28th 6:15-8pm
Sunday, May 1st 4:30-6:30pm

Thursday, May 5th 6:15-8pm
Sunday, May 8th OFF

Thursday, May 19th 6:15-8pm
Sunday, May 22nd 4:30-6:30pm

Thursday, May 26th 6:15-8PM

Signups will be on Thursday, April 14th from 6:15-8pm and Sunday, April 17th from 4:30-6:30pm. The cost will be $75 per semester (additional siblings will be $40 per semester). If you cannot make every session you can still sign up for the first semester and attend those workouts that do not conflict with your schedule. One of the reasons we decided to structure practices this way is even if your wrestler misses a training session then he will be able to jump right into the next scheduled session without the worry of being left behind in the training cycle. If you would like to sign up for the Sunday only practices then the cost is $50 per semester (additional siblings will be $30 per semester). This is one of the most affordable advanced training opportunities being offered this Spring/Summer and participation will be capped so that individual focus is not lost. In addition, there will be more than just one clinician showing technique and working with the athletes.

Each practice will have a separate focus, however, there will be review throughout the training semester. This is also one of the reasons we kept costs down so that even if you miss a few sessions it is still well worth the money spent on this type of advanced training.

I am, of course, opening this up to my Team Central wrestlers as well so these training cycles will fill up quickly. If you want to reserve a spot before Thursday's practice please email me at jasonkeck@yahoo.com. Payment for the first semester will be on this Thursday and Sunday depending upon what schedule your wrestler will be participating.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the training being offered or scheduled please do not hesitate to contact me.
