Here is the information and calendar for this year's Schoolboy Duals tournament. You must be born in 1997 or 1998 to participate. The weight classes and dates are listed below.

The tournament is held in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 8-June 12. We hold an overnight camp at St. James HS in Lenexa on June 5-June 8.

This is this year's flyer:

2011 Kansas Schoolboy Freestyle/Greco Dual Team
-We are now preparing for the 2011 Kansas Schoolboy Duals, held June 8th – June 12th in Indianapolis, Indiana. Schoolboy Duals is an exciting opportunity for your young wrestler to grow and mature as a young man and a wrestler.
-This is a very tough national competition. Team Kansas finished 7th in Greco in 2010 out of 26 teams, the highest placing Kansas has ever received at this tournament.

-We conduct a 2 or 3 day overnight camp in the Kansas City area, then board vans to travel to Indiana for the tournament. We stay in hotels, with 4 adult coaches/chaperones supervising the athletes.

-You must be born in 1997 or 1998 to be eligible to participate.

-The weight classes are: 70, 77, 84, 91, 98, 105, 112, 120, 128, 136, 144, 152, 160, 175, 190, 210, 265

-Each wrestler will receive 2 custom designed Team Kansas singlets, two custom designed tshirts, and a pair of shorts, all designed by Blue Chip Athletics.

- Once delivered to Kansas City, all lodging, transportation, meals, and equipment/apparel is provided by Team Kansas.

-The 2011 National Schoolboy duals give you the opportunity to wrestle up to 15 or more matches in 4 days! It’s a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Please email me with any questions or interest, and I will be contacting many of you as well or talking with you at upcoming tournaments. If you know any other wrestlers born in 1997 or 1998 that are interested have them give me a call or e-mail as well. I will be at many of the upcoming tournaments and will see you there.

Good luck in all your wrestling, and let’s make the 2011 Kansas National Schoolboy team one of the best and make some noise this summer.

Just curious what criteria is used to pick the schoolboy team? How does one go about qualifying?

Thanks

The selection criteria is primarily head to head competition, most notably at State FS/GR Tournament and Southern Plains. Please go to all tournaments you can. We would like all interested schoolboys to go to State and Southern Plains camp and tournament.

Any idea when the team roster will be put together? I know that State results are up. I know that Southern Plains results were talked about but that is only the week before and the wrestlers are to be in a camp the next day (Sunday or Monday)after Southern plains. In order for famlies to make arrangements it would be nice to have an idea so we can arrange time off and make travel plans.

It is tough to do that, because lots of kids don't wrestle their best weight at state. Knowing the Southern plains will be tougher, they are more likely to wrestle their best weight there. Tough to swallow, but we as a state try to put together the best team possible, and if little Billy Bada$$ decides he can make 125 after wrestling 135 all summer, and that makes the team better, he'll get that 125 slot. Remember there are alternate slots as well. I'd just make the plans now, call them tentative, and see what happens at southern plains.

It would be helpful if the names of interested kids were posted, so that everyone could see where we have "openings", or if a kid sees a kid he can whip, he'll know to get involved and try to take that slot to make the team better.

This Schoolboys trip is a tremendous opportunity that you should do all in your power to make happen for your kid.

I just extended the first 10 or so invitations to this year's team. I want to remind everyone that we usually invite all wrestlers who wrestled with us the year before, as a matter of policy. We also have some obvious choices, either with nobody else at that weight or a very dominant kid. The rest I am working on, and will work on, until we go to Indianapolis. If you did not get an email, this does not mean I do not want your son, it just means I do not yet have enough information to make an informed decision, so bear with me. Also, if you do not have your information on file, please email me and I will email it to you, so I have all the information I need.

Again, I can be reached at wilgt@msn.com.

I talked to Kyle last night and he text me when they left at 8:00 AM. Sounds like the camp was good and they are ready as a team. Good luck boys I'll see you on Thursday morning at the first Greco Dual.

Go gettem Kansas! The start of the duals! It's a great time of year!
"Good Luck" to the School Boy Dual wrestling team in Indianapolis this week. Tom William you are still the man of this group. I watched the team workout last night and had the opportunity to visit with Parents. Another great group of young men. I would like to send a big Thank You to the St.James Administration for allowing Team Kansas the opportunity to stay three days and night at this facility. It does not seem like that long ago that "Big Steve and "Jeffrey" were on this team and gaining life time friendships with other Kansas Kids. It was great to see C.J. Napier. Kick some ___________. Tyler I mean G4 I know you will be busy. Be a great leader of these young men. Charlie you are as always awesome and truly a Kansas Great. RMG

Report from Indy: We are here, 23 strong, we have at least 1 wrestler in every weight. We like our draw in Pool B, we will see how we do. Our camp at St. James was outstanding, the young men all responded. Parents have been great and have done everything we have asked. Our coaches and dads have all chipped in to make this happen. Indiana Blue in the morning.
