When you can boast the oldest showdown west of the Mississippi River, well, you've got yourself a bona fide rivalry. Abilene and Chapman have been squaring off against each other for 113 years, since their first meeting in the early 1890s.

The stakes may not be as high annually as in some of the other rivalry games, but with both schools in the same county (Dickinson), same league (North Central Kansas), same Class (4A) and, usually, same district, there are plenty of bragging rights to fight over.

This year is no exception as these two teams are the predominant cellar dwellers of the league in football but have found themselves 4-0 in conference and 5-1 overall. Should be a fun game next week in Chapman!
