This was a shock to me. Mark has been the key person at USAW in working with states' issues, and ironically was deeply involved in the new background check requirement designed to keep our sport clean. I was deeply disturbed about the news.

USAW has issued a release, a copy of which is available on this website.

I am speaking to myself as well as all who read this forum...

If we don't understand how heinous sin is, we won't understand the consequences of it. We are all guilty of breaking God's law. When asked the question, "Are you a good person?", can you answer that honestly? The answer is in God's word.

All man-made religions are "works righteous" religions. They think that they can get to Heaven by being good, praying, fasting, doing good works, through repentance, etc. (see Romans 10:2-3). This is because they don't understand one very important truth. God is utterly perfect. His Law therefore demands moral perfection. It says that lust is adultery in His eyes and hatred is murder. His moral Law (the Ten Commandments) shows us that He is a Judge and we are desperate criminals in His sight. That changes everything. Now, anything we offer the Judge isn't "good works," but a despicable attempt to bribe Him, and that is an abomination in His sight (see Proverbs 21:27). The only thing that can save us is the mercy of the Judge.

Fortunately, we are told that God is "rich" in mercy. In His kindness He provided a Savior--someone to pay our fine in His life's blood. That happened at the cross.

This is what that Savior said about Himself: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the father but through me" (John 14:6). Old and New Testament Scripture is consistent: "They shall be My people, and I will be their God; then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them" (Jeremiah 32:38), "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

You can claim that I am acting all righteous by posting this, but I can assure you that this truth convicts me every day. I am a sinner saved by grace. I pray that Mark will deal with his actions. It's a reminder to all of us!

Chief, I agree with all of your post. We must keep people with these type of problems away from our sport, & children in general. The background check was a great thing for kansas wrestling.

Except it didn't catch him!

I understand that. Some one with a conviction for this type of stuff will not even apply for a coaches card. No way of keeping track of how many people with these type of issues this will keep from coaching our children. If it stops one it was a good thing for kansas wrestling.

chief you are right on with the truth -

Sin makes you stupid! We all have the potential for stupidity -
we are fooling ourselves if we think it is not the truth.
We are adept at pulling the wool over our own eys...

I pray for Mercy for Scott and his family. that there will be a deep understanding of his need for it while he faces the consequences of his actions.
