Athletics Director James DeStefano announced that Gallaudet University will no longer offer a wrestling program at the NCAA Division III level. He cited lack of participation as one of the main factors for the cancellation of the program.
Gallaudet has lacked players who meet the criteria to participate in the 10 different weight classes which is required to compete against other Division III institutions. DeStefano cited that a vast number of schools have dropped their wrestling programs, making it more difficult for the university to find comparable opponents. He also mentioned that he is willing to support a club team depending upon the number of athletes that show interest in wrestling on a daily level.

I just realized the AD is also the men's basketball coach. I know that might really make people angry but the thing that angers me more is that a Kansas kid was on this team which is based out of the Washington D.C. area.
Charles Arwood from Shawnee was a freshman there last year as a 6'2 240lb hwt. Hopefully he will be able to transfer into a school that has wrestling so he can continue competing in the next few years at the collegiate level.
