Actually he defeated Josh Moore of Penn State. But who cares he won and yes we are all proud of him and the rest of the Kansas All Americans. Zach did great, a couple of dominating takedowns and a very intelligent match. Way to finish your collegiate career, Zach.

Yea, I entered it between his and Murray's match. Just was thinking Cliff because that's who Matt wrestled.

Oh well...

**** good job anyways.

Brett,

I read your topic on Matt Murray too so I knew you still had Cliff Moore on your mind when you introduced this topic.

What do you think about Zach's chances in Freestyle now? Does he have any possible chance at this point of making the Olympic team this year? Or has that team already been determined?

Whether he does anything in the future in freestyle or not, this was sure an incredilble accomplishment to add to his resume. Besides being able to say he was a four time undefeated high school State Champion, a three time NCAA All American, he can now add the title former NCAA Division 1 National Champion. I am sure his family, former coaches, teammates and friends are extremely proud of him.

I think he has dang good chances to do very, very well in freestyle.

His Olympic outlook may be better in 2008, however. It isn't too late to make the Olympic team for this year, however, he is at a disadvantage to those that have been training for more than the month or two that Zach will be.

Not saying that Zach isn't good at freestyle; I believe he has proven that one over and again at all the various nationals he had placed at and/or won.

He will just likely need more time to train in just freestyle to get the the very upper level needed to win the Olympic Trials.

Thank you, that makes sense. Maybe he will surprise some people this year though, but I agree it sounds like his best chance will be 2008.

Interesting to me, is that Erik Akin was very instrumental in the wrestling careers of both Jason Powell and Zach Roberson!

And to that end, will we see a possible matchup with Erik versus either Jason or Zach?

Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?

Depends on the weights they go at.

I am guessing Powell at 121 (by the way--he's a f-ing beast), Roberson at 132 and Akin at either/or.

Either way, delicious match-ups.

Don't forget about another Kansas kid trying for a spot on the olympic team that Aiken has ties to, Shawn Bunch!

He beat 2 former D1 champs (Ryan Lewis, Chris Fleegor) in freestyle last summer.

I would guess Aiken and Powell goe at 121lbs. and Roberson and Bunch at 132lbs.

I would guess Aiken and Bunch would win these machups because of the extensive freestyle training they are doing.

They are all studs in my book!

Bunch will not beat Roberson in any style. I think a lot of both of them but dont think they are in the same class

Not in the same class, that is pretty far out. If you remember right Bunch lost two matches in overtime to become an All American his freshman year, one to the eventual champ! In freestyle he has beat many top caliber wrestlers. Look for Bunch to be an All American the next two years and possibly win it all.

Last summer Bunch beat both Chris Fleegor and Ryan Lewis. The folling is an article on Ryan Lewis

"Lewis captured the 60 kg/132 lbs. gold medal at the North Regional Olympic Team Trials Qualifier in St. Joseph, Minn. on March 13.

In the finals, Lewis defeated World champion and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Sammie Henson, 4-1.

With the win, Lewis automatically qualifies for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Wrestling to be held in Indianapolis, Ind., May 21-23.

Lewis has also won medals this year at the New York AC Christmas International and the Dave Schultz Memorial International.

Lewis was a two-time NCAA finalist for the Univ. of Minnesota (2002-03). He transferred to Minnesota in 1999 following a successful freshman campaign at North Dakota State Univ., where he placed third in the 1999 Division II national tournament."

Now would you like to explain to me how Bunch is not in the same class as Roberson?????

I like Shawn too, but he did not make all-american in 2002 or 2003.
