You have 9 months to train for Cadet Duals...... Do some Freestyle and Greco when you get on the mat, train for your folkstyle and good luck on the upcoming season. More later....

Back again, What I would like to hear is that those of you not out for a fall sport and getting on the mat for your upcoming folkstyle season, that you are drilling a little freestyle and greco stuff and live wrestling FS and GR also. We have 9 months to train and get ready to not earn respect but earn some GOLD ! Think about it we tied the team that won Greco (OK) in the pool round. We have the talent to win it all and wouldn't it be nice to be the first, that's right the 1st Kansas team to win Dual Nationals. Never been done but I think if we train right we can earn it. We may have earned some respect from some of the wrestling community throughout the Nation but I would rather earn some serious Hardware. My focus is not on winning and losing but training to win and laying it all on the line next June ! !

Wrestling Greco will improve your handfighting skills. Working the cheap tilts to counter leg shots will put the opponent out of position. These are two good skills that will help in Folkstyle while also improving your skills as an overall wrestler.

Work on your Gutwrenches. Last year Coach Fergola made parterre defense and clinch defense a high priority. I want to keep that as a big emphasis, but simply add as another goal for our team, the ability to gut every opponent.
This will take some long term work. Which if you start know could pay off in big dividends next freestyle/Greco season.

Bruce Burnett's 3 keys to a successful gutwrench are:
1.) Maintain pressure on the lock throughout the move.
2.) Keep your elbows in tight.
3.) Keep your chest on your opponent's back.

So what I would like you to do is increase your lock endurance by hanging on a punching bag if you have one if not use a person. Lock up behind them and get your feet off the ground for 2 minutes(a cadet period). If you need to work your way up to it. Do 5 - 30 second go's with 30 second rest in between. Then increase the go's to work your way to 2 minute go's. If you can hang for two minutes 5 times with 30 second rest in between, I guarantee your gut will get better.
Next, do 1- arm rows, these will increase your lat muscles and help you keep your elbows in tight. Also do pull-ups, chin-ups, and do them to where your chest touches the bar not your chin, so your elbows will be by your side in tight.
Last, do forearm work, which will help keep your lock pressure driving into your chest which when hitting the gutwrench will keep your opponent's back on your chest.
Forearm work can consist of curls or any motions with dumbbells rotating out from your body.

Gentlemen I am asking each of you to develop your bodies into supreme machines, transfrom your Chevy Chevette into a Corvette, and lets burn the tires on our opponents next year.

Just think how many matches you could win if you do not get gutted and you gut your opponents.
Be a man with a plan, and plan your success today, but don't forget to do the work for that is what will make you be what you can be.

Good Luck-----Train Hard-----and Let's make Kansas the Best !

Ahhhh, but the '65 vette is not as percission as the new 2004, it sure must be fine to take it out for a cruise. We all have a date stamped on us unfortunately but when taken into the shop (time on the practice mat) and the mechanics go to work, WOW ! ! ! we come out for the next race powerful. Just think of yourself as a big block 427 Randy, with the 60's on the back, 70's on the front, goodyear all around and a Holley carb up top. Ready to burn'em............
