I have not seen a chart estimating the weight loss each kid could lose each week based on the 1.5% per week rule. Does anybody else read this rule the same way I do. The weights estimates below are after the hydration test and 7% body fat test passage. If you have 2 weeks between matches you could double the numbers below.
103 - 110 weight class could lose 1.54lbs to 1.65 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
112-119 weight class could lose 1.68lbs to 1.78 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
119-126 weight class could lose 1.79lbs to 1.89 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
125-132 weight class could lose 1.88lbs to 1.98 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
130-137 weight class could lose 1.95lbs to 2.055 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
135-142 weight class could lose 2.025lbs to 2.13 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
140-147 weight class could lose 2.10lbs to 2.205 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
145-152 weight class could lose 2.175lbs to 2.28 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
152-159 weight class could lose 2.28lbs to 2.385 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
160-167 weight class could lose 2.40lbs to 2.50 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
171-178 weight class could lose 2.565lbs to 2.67 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
189-196 weight class could lose 2.835lbs to 2.94 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
215-222 weight class could lose 3.225lbs to 3.33 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.
285-292 weight class could lose 4.275lbs to 4.38 lbs starting on Monday for a upcoming Saturday. The entire week.

Sean, The 1.5% decent rule was not adopted by KSHSAA. Your alpha weight merely establishes the hydrated weight from which you can go down only 10% from.

Could you give me actual weight measurements. So if you are hydrated at 100 lbs you can still lose 10 pounds (10%) - is that what you are saying?
Thanks Sean

hm I'm not sure I get it. so if I'm hydrated at 200lbs, I can lose 20 lbs, and still be hydrated? or what?

you establish your alpha hydrated weight, you can lose up to 10% from that.
You still have to make weight and pass a hydration test again prior Jan 12 at the lowest weight you are wanting to wrestle.
A 2 lb allowance is granted after that date provided you have done the above.

If you lose 20 pounds in a week you most likely will not be hydrated at the time you weigh 180 one week later. If you lost 20 pounds over the year you could be hydrated at 180.
My question is: Do the kids have to pass the hydration test at scratch weight? And if so how many times and is it random.

Only two (2) hydrated weights are required; at alpha and at certification.

That is my understanding too. The Alpha weigh-in for us is Tuesday, Nov. 7th with a hydration test. The certification has to be before January 12th with a hydration test at that time also.

Sean, what I had to do this year is exactly what has been said. The only difference is that kshsaa doesn't set a chart for weight loss per week like you posted above. they have a weight loss limit of 10%, given that they pass the second hydration test ater losing 10%. I'm wondering if the second hydration test for high schoolers can be done on any day before Jan. 12 or if that is the only day available, and if they fail the test can they try it again or do they immediately have to bump up? I still have to take my second hydration test, and I can take it any day up to and on Dec. 16th.

Certification can take place any time prior to Jan. 12 so long as (1) the wrestler is hydrated prior to weiging in; and (2) the weigh-in is part of an official competition date. Certification weigh-in does NOT have to be with another team; it can be done at a home site competition weigh-in.
If a wrestler does not certify on or before Jan. 12 they are not allowed to take part in any further interscholastic competition for the reaminder of the season. This will "force" wrestlers who cannot hydrate at a lower weight to "bump up" to a higher weight where they can be hydrated. There is no KSHSAA stipulation or limitation on the number of times a wrestler can be tested for hydration prior to passing and getting a certified weigh-in.

The 12th is the first weekend before the NFHS certification date of January 15. However, the original recommendation was to (A) allow certification at ANY TIME after the start of practice and on/or before Janaury 12th, and (B) the certification hydration and weigh-in would NOT have to be done as part of a competition weigh-in. The KSHSAA executive committee did not accept this portion of the proposal and changed it so that certifcation had to occur at a competition weigh-in. When they did this January 12 became a problem.
Your concern was forwarded to Mr. Bowden at the KSHSAA and he responded that several schools have queried him about this due to their having no competition on the 12th, but on the 13th. He is giving the matter consideration.
