They probably aren't because it is a split format, they are weighing at two different times. Hope it's not too crazy.

Hopefully goes better than Mill Valley split. At 1st thought split would be better and end sooner but our coaches didn't get home until 8pm!! Not so good for coaches and parents with kids in both morning and p.m.

millspartyof5,

Lets discuss the split.

We wrestled 3 seperate age groups(6, 8, & 14) early and a majority of those families and wrestlers got to go home early. If families only had to wrestle in the second session they got to sleep in and get something done in the morning. They then were able to come around 11:30 weigh in and wrestle their bracket. Take just a second and imagine that gym in the morning with 375 additional wrestlers and their families sitting in those stands and around the mat at 9:00am.

I have been in this gym when we had 750+ wrestlers holding a traditional format tourney. When Mill Valley was built it was a 4A school and no additions/improvements have been made to the gymnasium situation. It is now a 5A school that has an enrollment creeping up on 1000 shortly. If you help me to convince the school district for a larger COMPETITION GYM, I would be able to hold a regular format tourney, but wouldnt because we wouldnt get ANY families out of the building early doing it that way.

Hopefully you can see the benefit to splitting the tourney now!

I have to back Jeff on this one. This is the 4th year we have attended the Mill Valley tournament. The split format is much better IMO.

I would like to commend Mill Valley on the tournament they put on. I thought you all did a great job.

Personally, I like the split tournament format better than the regular format for the following reasons....

1. Space management for wrestlers, fans, parents, etc is much better.

2. Being able to have enough coaches is much easier. We had about 50 kids at the Mill Valley tournament and about 8-10 coaches. Having a split format made it a lot easier to coach and spend good time with the kids after matches rather than giving them a hug and then running to another match. At most tournaments that run regular format they have to use 2-3 different gyms/wrestling areas in order to accomodate everyone. This really becomes a coaching challenge. Split format alleviates that issue for the most part.

3. The little guys get to come in, compete, and get out of there. Older kids get to sleep in, don't have to rush, etc.

There are only 2 groups of people that do not benefit from a split format.....

1. Parents with kids in both age groups. But these people are going to be there all day regardless of the format that is used. Don't make the majority suffer by going to a regular format.

2. The coaches. But hey, that's what we signed up for when we decided to coach!

Just my thoughts. Thanks Mill Valley for a great tournament!

In closing and keeping with the thread I would say "Hopefully, Turner goes as well as Mill Valley!"

Sorry if anyone took that negative on Mill Valley I didn't mean it to. New to the sport last year and have never been to a split tourn before.

Morning session was great for me with younger wrestlers just not so great for some of the other parents and coaches that were there over 12 hours. Again as you point out it probably was better for the majority of the competitors. No complaints from anyone just an observation I made.

Sorry if I offended anyone..................

Any chance of listing the entries for Turner?
