I have a wrestler who made State for the first time two years ago. Him and 6 other kids made it from our club. He worked his heart out to get back there last year and fell short.
Then this year our club went through a restructure where we lost about 12 kids to another club. But this wrestler asked me to keep the club going, so I did for his sake. We traveled to other clubs tournaments all season long and he won all but two tournaments where he finished third in. His desire to go to State was overwhelming. So when we transfered through the District tournament his dream was coming closer to reality.
We walked into Landon Arena and he was amped for the chance to prove his ability as a wrestler, And was smacked in the face during the parade of athletes. As his club was not announced as we walked onto the mats on the arena floor. It bothered me for him, so I used it as a tool to get him fired up to let everyone know that our club was in attendance. He finished third in an awesome match on mat 4 ( 10&U 90 ). I hope for the sake of other small teams that this doesn't happen to them.
The glory of State is supposed to be special, so make it that way for everyone.

I believe that they were only announcing what they were seeing! I was sitting on the end facing the 2 men announcing the clubs and they looked like they were trying to read banners or shirts as they came out of the tunnel! Maybe the smaller groups should at least hold up a poster with the club name so it could be more noticeable. Maybe you did and they still missed you I don't know. I don't belive they would ever intentionally leave anybody out because it is a great accomplishment to make it to state, let alone place! Congrats on your win!

Believe me when I say that I don't look at it as a conspiracy to neglect clubs. But our banner was 5ftx5ft. It was just a disappointment after hearing that nobody would be left out during the parade in the coaches meeting. I'm just venting at the feeling it gave my wrestler.
And thank you, he brought his a-game to State and made it happen. I couldn't be more proud of him for his performance.

... I am sure others will express there regret but I will add mine!

I know that Gonzo expressed one of his concerns was to omit someone. I too missed your banner and I am sorry!

I know it may mean nothing to you but the first year the Wellsville club qualified anyone for the finals at State they were announced at Wellington. And strangely yesterday, a finalist from Wellington was announced as being from Wellsville.

One of the biggest fears is wrongly stating names etc. Regardless, sometimes they do!

Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?

Just curious if Easton Rams wrestling is the same as Pleasant Ridge Wrestling, because I have the announcer introducing Pleasant Ridge Wrestling on video and it is one wrestler and his coach or parent.

After reviewing the tape supplied to me on the parade of athletes it was found that yes our team in fact was announced but as the wrong name. This fault being my own as the wrong banner was brought to the tournament. Our old banner and new banner are the same color with the name change on it.
My apologies go out to those who announced.

Does anyone know a good surgeon I can get to remove the size 10 1/2 shoe from my mouth!!!!

Bobby,
Don't worry about. I can give you my surgeons number, but he is always busy taking my foot out of my mouth. There is a lot going that morning. If there is any club that we miss, Sorry!! We all try VERY hard to announce all of the teams.

Thanks Ned! I hope you leave an opening for me and don't hog all the medical attention!!
I am sorry for not making it sooner on Thursday night to help lay mats. It was a long drive from St.Joe to Topeka when I wasn't able to leave until 4:45 and had to pick-up my grandson in Atchison.
I hope that you got the cell phone I found, from Lee on Sunday afternoon.

Later,
Bobby
