Are you ready? It is a pretty complicated system.

You get 2 points for advancing on the winner side, plus bonus points (2 for pin, 1 1/2 for TF, 1 for major, 0 for decision.) You also get place points - 16 for 1st, 12 for 2nd, 9 for 3rd, 7 for 4th, 5 for 5th and 3 for 6th.

On the back side you only get one point for winning plus bonus points.

You get the place points as soon as you earn them so a win in the state quaterfinals gets you 3 place points because the worst you can do is 6th. Then if you win the semis you get 9 place points because the worst you can do is 2nd (a common mistake is to give a wrestler 12 for winning semis but that is incorrect because they already got 3 points for winning in quaterfinals). Then you would get 4 more, plus bonus for winning state.

So for example you pin in the first round 2 plus bonus (2 for pin). Then you major in the quater finals so 2(for advancing) plus 3(for place points) plus 1 (For the major). Now you have a total of 4+6=10. Then you get a 3 point victory in semis so that is 2+9+0. That equals 11 so you have a total of 21. Then you win state by a decision for 4 more. You have scored your team a total of 25 points.

Again on the backside you get 1 for winning plus bonus and you don't get any place points until you win conso quaterfinals. So interestingly if you lose in the championship quaterfinals and then pin your way all the way to 3rd place you can score as many points as a state champion.

I hope I didn't confuse you.
