When we go to some of the big events we see an Outstanding Wrestler Award given to each age group and then an OVERALL Winner! Why not add that to out State Event! There was some pretty dominating kids out there is some of those age groups!

I'm not a big fan of OW. The criteria is usually the most pins in the least amount of time. All this does is encourage headlocks and snakes. If there are three or four really good wrestlers in a bracket and the matches are close, the kid who wins will not even be considered. In another bracket you could have one good kid that pins a bunch of so so wrestlers and he is considered the OW.

I think OW should be for one that elevates his level of wrestling, for example a lower seed making to the finals or placing.
How many time have we seen the #1 in the state undefeated the last 3 years win OW.
When you have a 21-13 # 6 seed pins a ranked kid in the finals, who was more outstanding? Of course this is a high school regualar tournament example.

Beeson is dead on. There might be 3 or 4 kids in the next weight bracket up or down that could win this kids' bracket that wins the outstanding wrestler award. Is he the outstanding wrestler, or is he in a weak bracket?

With the way we qualify state there are only a few weak brackets! I know some do not run a full 16 man bracket. I'm just saying that there are some truly outstanding wrestlers in each age bracket and if there was a way to point them out then I say why not!

Do we really need another thing for parents and coaches to fuss and argue over?

Perfect example...Curtis Burnett sorry if mispelled, beat Logan Terril a returning state champ in the semi's. He then beat Conner Penka, a great wrestler who I believe has won state before, 7-4 in the finals. Throw in Eck from the brawlers and this was a monster backet. Because of the low scoring matches he would not even be considered. In my opinion he was the OW for 10U.
Those are the three names I recognized, there were more studs because Terril ended up with 5th.

I think OW would be ok if it were given to the truly outstanding wrestler. Most&quikest pins does not always constitute the best wrestler. If you want to give an award for those&ow that may be an idea.Maybe voted on by the coaches of that age group???

It was just an idea! I didnt want it to be some big deal! I just thought that since other big events had this type of award then why not add our BIGGEST EVENT! Just another way to try to reward our kids for jobs well done!

I think that can be managed to play different songs for the finalist parade in 2009!! I guess I need to leave the "exact" list of songs to be played when we run the wrestlers in at the Head Table!!!
To be honest, I thought YMCA was a "warm-up" before we ran the wrestlers in --
Next year, YES, it will change!! Songs that come to mind are something like "We are the Champions" or "Stand Up for the Champions" (which was played at Greg's funeral) --
However, ALL wrestlers are champions, whether the place or not!!!

Out of curiosity, why don't the 8U have a mat for 5th&6th, 3rd&4th, and 1st&2nd like the rest of the groups?

I thought the YMCA song is a pretty good warm up song. I remember a couple of years ago when they played "we will rock you" from queen for the championship group that came out. Man that was awesome! my son was made me buy him the cd and he pretended he was coming out for the finals while running into his bedroom right up until wrestling started the next year! I heard guys use to come in to the rocky anthem or eye of the tiger. think that would be awesome. Some other songs that come to mind are "pump up the volume" ac/dc "thunderstuck" and the theme song to vision quest. of course "welcome to the jungle" always fires people up. Just some ideas. We jam some of these songs for the kids during wrestling practice on the nights where we do strictly conditioning and it always gets them fired up and is then fun to hear them at state. also. I liked hearing the rocky anthem during the parade of wrestlers. thought that was real cool.
