I just wanted to start a topic about how we purchase our USA Cards. As a club director I am convinced it is time that we are allowed to purchase our cards on line. The main reason is being able for the kids to get there cards in a more timely matter. I am in no way blaming the people that issue the cards for this delay. It is the amount of cards that they have to deal with is what is causing the problem.
The way the process is set up I think it is very easy for us as club directors to take advantage of by applying for the cards and then not getting the payment turned in on a timely matter. So by doing this it holds up card from being sent back to the clubs.
Another problem is we all start close to the same time so this creates and mass flow of processing for one person to have to deal with in a timely manner.
One other problem is holiday mail. By ordering around this time of year the mail does not reach its destinations as timely as it usually would.
By allowing the parents and coaches to order their own cards they would be totally responsible for getting their cards and the club directors would have one less thing to worry about.

I am a technology guy and am admittedly biased; I think that if we have an opportunity to use technology to improve the experience of many and reduce the workload of the folks involved in these processes, we should seriously consider doing it.
In looking at the process today, it seems to be good fit for going online, especially considering what the other states do. What negatives are associated with this?
If club control was an issue, I'd think the process could be setup so the clubs perform the registration online vs. the parents. Even though having a card doesn't guarantee club participation this would allow the clubs to maintain control of whom they have registered. I'm not sure that is even needed but could be an option.
It seems the up-sides are many without obvious downsides.

The cost of the cards is a additional $5.00 online for each card. With the current system USAWKS keeps $10 from each card and that $10 stays here in Kansas. I dont know but if USAWKS would lose the $10 from each card from online sales that would be pretty big chunk of money from the budget.
Buying the cards online should at least be optional.

Currently some states require online registration while others allow it. Although there are some other states which do not allow their competitors to register online, we are the only state which does not register our coaches online.
Managing registrations is a major job around our house, with Kathy putting in around six hours/day this time of year working with clubs to get the correct information so our file upload to USAW works properly. Although not all of this time is spent on membership issues, switching to online registrations would obviously make things easier for my household. However, the state membership has voted twice that they do not want to allow online registration, and I will do my best to continue to receive permission from USAW to continue this arrangement.
If the state membership should decide to allow or require online membership (or if USAW should require it in the future, which is a distinct possibility), it would not have a negative impact on our organization's financial position. A surcharge of nearly $5 is assessed by USAW when cards are purchased online, so the decision to go to online registration would effectively be the same as a vote to increase card fees by $5.

Well if it doesn't affect our organization adversely from a financial standpoint...then I say we look into going to online registration next year. That will get me some bonus points with Kathy Juby...I bet!

Mike, if we register online how would the state go about receiving their money from USAW which we currently take from card fees to fund our organization? Also, it should be noted that I predict we will be looking at a card fee increase in the next year or two in order to fund our current budget shortfalls within our state programs. If I am correct then we are actually looking at a $10.00+ card fee increase in the near future if we opt to register online!

Mike, if we register online how would the state go about receiving their money from USAW which we currently take from card fees to fund our organization? USA Wrestling sends a check at the end of each month for the state's portion of the card fees collected online. Prior to the state mandate two years ago, we used to allow online registrations. Although most coaches and wrestlers opted to not use this option, each month there would be a small check from USAW for the few members that registered online.
