What are the pro's and con's of each of these tournaments?
They are on the same weekend, so could you explain to me why one tournament is better than the other?

Thanks

USA Nationals is a tougher an bigger tournament as a whole. Brackets are usually much bigger than Brute. Brute got its start as a FR-Sr. High school tournamnent and that part is pretty tough. The kids brackets are growing as this tournamnet matures. USA Folk nationals gets alot more of the traveling kids that want to compete for the USA triple crown. (w/freestyle and greco). My sons bracket has had around 40 kids in it many years. Most Brute brackets for his age weight have around 8-10. USA has now added the Jr age group to compete as well.

Overall USA nationals is I believe tougher by far. Brute is closer by far. It just depends on what you are looking for and the size/age of your kid. They post all the entries on line now-a-days so just watch to see which one is the toughest and enter that one.

One comparison Schoolboy 98 pounds at USA Nationals had 49 entries last year. About the same weight in the 8th grade division of Brute had 4. I realize Brute is only one age year/grade and USA is two but there USA is much tougher top to bottom. It just depends on what you are looking for.

For Kids, I would say USA, for High School, I would say Brute, also, if money is an issue, Brute is closer but that is a side bar. I do know that for a period of time USA had some organization problems, not any more, I have heard nothing but top notch quality comments over the last few years, but the same can be said for Brute, started off rough, last couple of years actually pretty fun, last year exceptional.

Even in HS top to bottom USA is tougher. Jesse Thielke for example is wrestling at USA nationals. Other like him will be entering there as well. Not saying Brute in the HS division is not tough it certainly is.

We haven't been to USA nationals but have been to Brute. I don't think the competition was as tough but we still had a great time. It was a great experience for my son and we will be back again this year.

Brute can get pretty expensive after entry, coach's entry, parking, pictures, and food (of course it's not cheap at the venue either.) Although I think to register as a coach it's $90.00 this year. Which is ridiculous considering I am only coaching my son. But I think I'll still save more then driving up to Iowa and spending a few nights in a hotel.

The word I hear is to volunteer and you will save lots of $$$. I don't know if I can volunteer and still coach.
