$35 for a USA wrestling card that will only be valid for a month and a half? They are only $30 to begin the season. Other than this camp, when and where will these cards be of any use? Cards in July and August should be priced at $10.
And by rights isn't this a 2 1/2 day camp seeing how its only 3 hours a day? Good luck getting any kids from more than 60 miles away, I don't know to many people willing to travel very far for 3 hours a day for 5 days. Not trying to ruffle feathers, just trying to figure out how this would be worth the money for anyone not within a 60 mile radius of Lansing. 15 hours of camp just doesn't seem worth it to me.

and $90 for your own wrestlers seems a bit high too. Like I said good luck with this.

Powercat,

Thanks for the positive attitude. Be interested to see who you are and what you do to help kids. But I will answer your questions.....

1. Price of the card....I messed up...the price is $30 (Accidentally put the price for a coaches card). We can't control that. They must have a card because it provides the insurance. I agree on the card only being good for a month. I assume most kids that attend will already have a card.

2. We did a similar camp to this last year and did not advertise at all. We had over 75 kids attend. The price is based off our expected numbers and what it costs to bring in the clinicians. Last year we did full days. It was too long for most of the kids. This year we have modified it so we can focus more based on age and ability.

3. We are not doing this as a fundraiser. We are doing this to give the kids an opportunity to do some summer time wrestling and get exposed to one of the best college wrestling programs in the country.

BLUF: I am sorry you feel the way you do but in the future I would appreciate if you keep your negative attitude to yourself. We have enough negativity in everything else we do....if you don't like it....don't come. I would have put this in a private message.....but you don't put your name on it.

Sportsfan02,

24 years with the Army. Currently still work with the military as a civilian grad school instructor. Old habit. Good catch! Do you know what it stands for?

Mr. Budke:

As always, you are much kinder in your response than many would be.

Thank you for providing another opportunity for kids!

Looks like a great commuter camp to me. I'll pass the information
on to our clubs public relations officer. Then we will let the parents decide which camp in the Kansas City Area they want to send their kids.

Richard,

You are right with the acronym. Thank you for the other comments.

Sean,

Thanks for the support. I know it has gotten some of our kids noticed and created a good dialogue with some wrestlers and the coaching staff.

I really wish that I could win the lottery so I could put these on and not have to charge the wreslters anything....looks like I will have to keep saving instead.

We are not trying to turn this into any kind of competition. We are all very blessed to have great instructors, coaches and wrestlers in the Kansas City area. I know I encourage our kids to get out and take advantage of all the great opportunities provided by folks like Erik Aiken, Travis Phippin, Zach Roberson, Mike Medina, Tony Purler, etc.

This is just another opportunity to get some mat time and some additional coaching.

Hope to see a lot of you in July.

If you don't have a USAW Card by that time of the year you are probably not committed to this kind of extra work anyhow. So that issue is kind of no issue at all.

Check out the average camp cost of a 3-4 day camp at any D-1 university. It is usually anywhere from $400 to $600. And at those camps your wrestler will probably never personally meet the head coach or the featured clinicians.

This will be a great opportunity offered by the Mizzou staff and wrestlers. They are excellent coaches and stand-up guys. Thanks for the work Shawn. We will be sending some guys up from the East Kansas Club. $90 is dirt cheap for a camp of this caliber!
