Here are the cadets who have signed up for Fargo and have some or all of their paperwork in and at least their 50 dollar deposit. I put in for clothing sizes next week. If you want to be guaranteed the sizes you want get your paperwork in! Or you may be a 105 pounder wearing XXL.

Here is what I have so far after speaking to Coach Hermreck. I know there has to be a few more of you who want to go through the training of a life time and kick some butt in the Fargo Dome one last time. Yes, sorry fans, I been informed this is the last year Fargo will do both Cadet and Juniors together.

Coach, I'm curious if you and others feel that is a good thing or a bad thing?

Actually this is probably the 2nd to the last year the Juniors and Cadets will compete in a consolidated tournament at Fargo. At the meetings in Fargo we will be voting on a new proposed schedule which will combine the Cadets & Kids in a national championship tournament held one week prior to the traditional Fargo date. The Junior Nationals would be held on the same week as Fargo, but probably at a different location. There are two principal reasons for the proposed change: - The Kids' National Championships has not been particularly successful the past few years. By combining the Cadets (a very successful event) with the Kids, the hope is that the excitement generated by the Cadets will carry over to the Kids, allowing both events to flourish.
- With combination of the Juniors and Cadets you end up with an event which is so large that you are severely restricted in finding a venue capable of handling the number of mats, lodging, meals, etc. that are necessary.
I'll miss the opportunity to watch all of the Cadet & Juniors competing at the one big extravaganza that is Fargo, but accept that it is all but inevitable that this vote will pass. I think that Fargo’s enthusiasm for hosting the event has waned as they have worn out their volunteers over the past 16 or so years. Also, the lack of viable alternatives has allowed Fargo to steadily increase the costs beyond what we would normally expect. Many of the states have to fly their teams to the tournament and have complained each year about the lack of affordable airfare into the Fargo airport. For these reasons and the two mentioned above, I believe the handwriting is on the wall. If the vote is made to split the tournaments, and if the vote is upheld at the State Leaders’ Summit, then 2010 will be the last year the Junior & Cadet Nationals will be held at Fargo.

Mike, how big of a facility would be required to run either kids and cadets or juniors alone? How much mat space?

My expectation is that they'll be looking for a venue capable of holding at least 14 full mats. Also of importance would be easy access to lodging and meals. Both tournaments would probably run over 5-6 days, with Greco coming first and freestyle afterwards. They'll probably be looking for practice facilities with mats where teams can work out those kids who are not competing that day. As with the meals and lodging, easy accessibility to the practice facilities would be a plus.
I haven't seen the proposed bid packages, if they've even gotten that far in the process yet, but am basing this on comments I've received in the meetings I've attended thus far and on the expectations most teams would have based on what has been provided at Fargo in the past.

This is just a picture example of what we are suffering from within our own state. An event that has been so popular that it has outgrown itself making it impossible for the overall organization to grow. While I too will miss the all under one roof tournament I think it will allow the Juniors to grow as it will give an opportunity for Cadets to wrestle juniors. My guess is that UNI will become one of the bidders. I wish we had a domed football stadium in Kansas!

The Topeka Expo Center was the host of Folkstyle USAW Nationals for years.
Municipal Auditorium in KCMO has hosted the Liberty Nationals and Brute Adidas Nationals tournament for years and there is plenty of space.
