I like what I'm hearing!
I can tell you that big guys like to wrestle too! Sometimes mat time is hard to find.
We go to many tournaments and we are almost always in a combined bracket (110 & 120) and still only get 3 matches. So moving up a weight is a given for us at least 50% of the time.
We have given 40+ pounds at tournaments to just get mat time!
So being able to move up an age will really help us grow.
Also, the 30 min rest rule...
Being at one of the bigger weights we are usually one of the last to wrestle. If you have been to a tournament that used track wrestling then you know that you could wrestle as soon as 4 or 5 matches later & what if one of those is a scratch??
Then if you "request" your 30 min or just ask them to skip a few (and its at the end of the day or session) then who's the jerk holding up the whole tournament??
So you snap it up & strap it on & go!!!
So don't just think of the elite...
PLEASE think of the kids at both end of the weight limits. This will help them "an average wrestler" as well!
I like this rule change and I hope it gets the support it needs to pass.

I have received a lot of feedback regarding this issue with what seems to be overwhelming support. Thanks to everyone for putting in your 2 cents. As mentioned in my opening post there are several positives to this change. Far outweighing the ”potential” downside. This proposal has been submitted to Ned per our Bylaws, forwarded and visited about by the Executive Council and is ready for a motion to be made at the State Body meeting. My intention is to make the following motion, or something very close, in Salina. I have been advised by Ned Price that if this motion passes it WILL go into effect this season. The issue of it being amended from the floor and delaying it, just like the high school division proposal is yet to be decided on!

Motion

Rule 4-4-1 Competition shall be in the following age and weight classes. Minimum age determination shall be as of midnight, August 31 for that competitive year. For example, a child with a birthday on August 31, 1998 will wrestle at a minimum as an eleven-year-old during the 2009/10 season. A child born on September 1, 1998 will wrestle at a minimum as a ten-year-old during the 2009/10 season. Any USAWA-Kansas Kids club may challenge the age of any wrestle during weigh-in at a sanctioned tournament. The wrestler or the wrestler’s club must, within one week, provide a birth certificate or similarly reliable verification that the wrestler’s age stated on his/her membership card is accurate.

Additional and/or combined age and weight classes can be used at the option of the host tournament director. Should the tournament director wish to opt out of allowing double dipping (entry into a maximum of two different age brackets) and/or wrestling up in age, they must notify entrants via flyer or other means prior to. Otherwise, double dipping (entry into a maximum of two different age brackets) and wrestling up in age shall be permitted.
Rule 1-2-3 No contestant shall wrestle in two (2) consecutive matches in the same bracket with less than thirty (30) minutes rest between matches, unless both the coaches and wrestlers involved agree to waive the rest period.

******************
I believe these additions (underlined) will allow for double dipping/wrestling up and also preserve the 30 minute rule. While I can see coaches and wrestlers being accommodative, the 2 minute rule will remain in effect to ensure no unnecessary delays are caused by this modification. Double dip knowing the risk. If you have any recommendations or see something I am missing please pm me or post it here. Thanks and let’s get this passed.
