I have been told several different dates. Anyone know when the alfa date is and the final date for season?

The 2009-2010 Wrestling Announcements sheet from KSHSAA states
"The Certification deadline is on or before December 22, 2009. Seventh-Eighth grade students do not have to certify."
"Wrestler's that have certfied on or before December 22, 2009 will be granted the growth allowance of two (2) pounds for all school team competitions held after December 28, 2009."

Two pounds allowance right after the holidays makes more sense that mid January!
The older I get the better I was!

First posted in May, 2009:
"The KSHSAA Executive Council approved the recommendation to change the certification date from January to December. The 2 lb. growth allowance will be granted at the first competition after the Christmas moratorium. Analysis of two years worth of weight loss and certification datum for the original twelve pilot schools was the basis for this change.
Further, a wrestler may certify at a lower weight AFTER the Christmas moratorium so long as he/she makes scratch, hydrated weight and has on file, (if necessary), a signed weight loss waiver. To wrestle at the Regional Tournament at the lower weight, the athlete must still have at least 50% of his/her competition weigh-ins at that weight."

I may be wrong, but I left the rules meeting in Chanute the other night with the understanding that there were only 3 reasons a kid could certify after christmas and all 3 were due to hardship and had to be approved by the KSHSAA with a written letter from the school administration. Coach Albright had Mr Bowden all flustered and it did not seem like the topic was up for discussion because it was explained to the group that the steering committee was the driving force and they had data to back up their findings so it was not up for discussion.

Don't know where you've been, but it has been pretty obvious that KSHSAA is always right, and who are you to question them? They look down on all of us as peons.

If he isn't reading from his handbook or if Gary M. isn't backing him up he is easily flustered!

Yours truly is the one who requested the two years worth of pilot school data and did the statistical analysis.
The above post from May 2009 is what was approved by the Exec Board late last spring.
A coach who was at the Chanute meeting contacted me as to why the date had been moved earlier--he thought it should have stayed later. I explained the after Christmas option and he was unaware. I contacted Rick about the confusion. Rick said the after Christmas option was explained; I hope it is explained better at the coming meetings.

The change is a good change. It makes total sense to allow the two pounds after the mandatory no practice period. Very, very few wrestlers are moving down a weight class after the winter break.
We all owe a big thanks to Greg for pushing a positive change through the system.
